Princess Merida Is Set to Kick Butt in the Brave Trailer

We met Princess Merida (Kelly Macdonald) when Pixar released the teaser trailer for Brave back in the Summer, but now we're getting a better look at the animated leading lady whose personality seems just as fiery as her wild mane of red hair. Despite her royal background, Merida isn't sitting around waiting for Prince Charming.

Merida turns the kingdom's world upside down when she ignores its customs, and it's up to her to make things right by embarking on a dangerous adventure. I'm always a fan of girl power, especially when it's geared toward a younger audience, and Merida seems to have just the right amount of sass and bravery for Pixar's first heroine. Sneak Peek: Premiere Photos From HBO's Boardwalk Empire!

True Blood may be off the air for now, but HBO has found an equally exciting Fall TV replacement to fill its time slot. Premiering tonight, Boardwalk Empire has been building hype for months. Martin Scorsese directed the pilot and writer Terence Winter of The Sopranos serves as creator, so to say critics' hopes are high is putting it mildly (it's already one of my five new shows to watch).

The story takes place during 1920s prohibition in Atlantic City as a corrupt public official (Steve Buscemi) uses his clout to keep the town boozed and put money in his pockets - even if it means throwing a few dead bodies into the river in the process. It promises to be a juicy tale of wealth and power, but with an ensemble of familiar faces, gorgeous costumes, and elaborate sets, the series delivers plenty of eye candy as well. Sneak Peek at Scorsese's Boardwalk Empire For HBO!

Rumor is that HBO's series Boardwalk Empire won't air until this Fall, but I'm already getting amped for its premiere. The show roster has talent in spades: Sopranos writer Terence Winter pens the script, Steve Buscemi plays a lead, and at its helm (at least for the pilot) is Oscar-winning director Martin Scorsese.

Scorsese knows a thing or two about portraying hoodlums (Gangs of New York or The Departed come to mind), so he should be in his element here portraying 1920s Atlantic City during the prohibition and the gangsters who run it. While it's not known yet just how involved he'll be as the show goes on (besides serving as a producer, of course), I'm crossing my fingers that the show continues to reap the benefits of his influence. The cinematic feel of this trailer is just too darn good, and it should be - an inside source claims the pilot cost $50 million to make.

The teaser doesn't give away much, but I'm pleasantly surprised to see some familiar big-screen faces pop up, including Michael Pitt and Kelly Macdonald. Bonus - my choice for Golden Globes Best Actor, Michael Stuhlbarg, is in the cast, too. Seems to me like HBO has its next big hit. Watch the video and tell me if you agree when you

Movie Preview: The Merry Gentleman

It's not often that a crime drama about a hitman elicits a great big "Awwwwww!" from me, but the trailer for The Merry Gentleman caused just that reaction, placing it in the same (um, fairly limited) category as The Professional. The hitman in The Merry Gentleman is Frank, played by a gruff Michael Keaton (who also makes his directorial debut with this film), who meets a sweet and charming young lady named Kate (Kelly Macdonald) when he helps her out from underneath a fallen Christmas tree. This fact - Frank finding her under the tree, like a gift - is played for cute poignancy in the trailer, but somehow it avoids veering into too-saccharine territory.

Frank is suicidal when he meets Kate, and there's a humor-amid-darkness vibe to the film that reminds me a bit of Little Miss Sunshine. The movie is set to open May 1. It really is one of the cutest trailers I've seen lately, so to check it out,

Movie Preview: Choke

Hey, all you fans of Fight Club author Chuck Palahniuk - the trailer from the movie adaptation of his fourth book Choke is tonally what one might expect from him: quite dark and post-modern in its despair, with an odd, social outcast as the main character. Oh, and funny, of course. Also, just like Fight Club, there are group therapy scenes as this character is a bit of a sex addict.

The movie received a lot of good buzz coming out of this year's Sundance Film Festival, even winning the Special Jury Prize. The film hits theaters August 1 and stars Sam Rockwell, Anjelica Houston, and an actress I'm always excited to see onscreen again (especially after her performance in No Country for Old Men), Kelly Macdonald.

The Ladies Bring Their Most Glamorous Gowns to the Golden Globes Red Carpet

The red carpet at last night's Golden Globe Awards was filled with stars in their finest looks. Charlize Theron stole the show in a gorgeous Dior gown while Kate Winslet, who picked up the award for best actress in Mildred Pierce, posed in a black and white look by Jenny Packham. Angelina Jolie arrived on the arm of Brad Pitt in a neutral Atelier Versace with a pop of red. Presenter Kate Beckinsale wore Roberto Cavalli for her turn on the carpet with husband Len Wiseman and Fashion Star's Nicole Richie got glamorous in a beaded Julien Macdonald number and a House of Harlow clutch.

Red was a hot color this evening with presenter Reese Witherspoon in a sexy, fitted Zac Posen and George Clooney's girlfriend, Stacy Keibler, in a brightly hued Valentino gown with a bow detail. Natalie Portman went bright in a pink Lanvin after spending the weekend with her family in Santa Monica. The Help's Viola Davis showed leg in Emilio Pucci and Emma Stone broke away from her green streak with a two-tone Lanvin look.

Things took a dark turn with a group of ladies choosing classic black for the big event. Rooney Mara, who was nominated for best actress in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, continued her run of daring ensembles with a cutout Nina Ricci. Mila Kunis presented the best supporting actor award with Gerard Butler in Dior while Julianne Moore went with a strapless Chanel. One of the evening's winners, Claire Danes, showed skin in a backless J Mendel and presenter Salma Hayek rocked an edgy Gucci as she arrived with husband Francois-Henri Pinault.

There was more color mixing up the carpet with Modern Family's Sofia Vergara in a blue fishtail Vera Wang and Kelly Osbourne in a Zac Posen gown of the same hue. My Week With Marilyn winner Michelle Williams accepted her statue in a velvety Jason Wu while Melissa McCarthy took her turn in front of the cameras in a green Badgley Mischka and Evan Rachel Wood wowed in a Gucci Premiere halter.
