Movie Preview: A Nightmare on Elm Street

Enough of you are into slasher flicks that I think you'll appreciate this trailer for the latest installment of A Nightmare on Elm Street. What's different about this one, set to release in 2010? Freddy Krueger is played by the genuinely creepy and genuinely good actor Jackie Earle Haley.

Billed as a re-imagining of the horror classic and produced by Michael Bay, the movie's trailer opens with a sad, evocative image of a younger Freddy being chased into an accident, precipitating his fate as a cold-blooded killer. The fact that the trailer can make you feel empathy for one of pop culture's greatest villains is a feat unto itself and makes me think this movie will be about more than just gory, creative ways to kill someone.

First Look: Harper's Island

Harper's Island, which starts next week on CBS, is doing things a little differently than your standard TV series. Not only do we know its start date (April 9), but we also already know its end date (July 2). And it's best not to get too attached to any of the characters, as one by one, they're all getting killed.

The series finds a group of friends and family reuniting on an island off the coast of Seattle for what should be an idyllic wedding between Trish (Katie Cassidy) and Henry (Christopher Gorham, playing a character with an awfully familiar name). But there's just, y'know, one minor problem: The guests are all dying at the hands of an unseen murderer, revealed only in the final episode.

It's an interesting premise, but I have a feeling a lot will depend on this show's execution. Will it be creepy, haunting, and captivating to the point that I have to keep watching to know the identity of the killer? Or will it be cheesy and over-the-top? TV Casting News: Scott Wolf, Katie Cassidy, Anastasia Griffith

As pilot season continues in Hollywood, I've got a fresh round of casting news, including Scott Wolf's next TV job and some plans for the new Melrose Place. Check it:

Scott Wolf has been cast in ABC's remake of V, which is about aliens known as "the visitors" trying to take over Earth. Wolf's role is as a TV newscaster who begins to spread the aliens' messages. The show was originally a cult hit in the '80s. This would be Wolf's first regular TV role since The Nine in 2007.
Katie Cassidy, formerly of Supernatural and currently starring in the upcoming Harper's Island on CBS, has also landed a role in the Melrose Place remake. Her character is Ella, "a stylish, alluring and ambitious publicist." She joins the previously cast Michael Rady.
Anastasia Griffith, aka Katie Connor on Damages, is the latest person cast in NBC's Trauma. She'll play "an EMT whose paramedic beau died in a helicopter crash."
Teri Polo of Meet the Parents fame (though I still think of her character on Sports Night first!) has been cast in Washington Field, a CBS pilot about an elite FBI squad. Eddie Cibrian has also been chosen for the ensemble.
And finally . . . Life on Mars may have been canceled, but it sounds like Gretchen Mol is already in talks for Eastwick, alongside Lindsay Price.

Alfre Woodard will play Christian Slater's boss on NBC's series My Own Worst Enemy, writes the Hollywood Reporter.
The indie film Nailed, starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Biel, has stopped production for the fourth time, citing more financial problems, Variety reports.
The Financial Times is reporting that there could be a Beatles edition of Guitar Hero or Rock Band.
Katie Cassidy won't be returning to Supernatural, TV Guide reports.
Jennifer Egan's novel The Keep will be adapted for the big screen, writes ComingSoon.
Billboard is reporting the news that Amy Winehouse has emphysema, according to her father.

Ladies and gentlemen, we have our Supergirl. Canadian actress Laura Vandervoort has been cast as Superman's counterpart on "Smallville." Vandervoort, who most recently played Sadie on The N's "Instant Star" and had a role in The Lookout, will make her debut in the show's season premiere.
Meanwhile, Katie Cassidy - David Cassidy's 20-year-old daughter - will join the cast of "Supernatural." She'll play a demon hunter who meets up with the Winchester boys in the first episode of the next season.
Those of us who have been enjoying Lifetime's "Army Wives" are in luck: The show, which is the highest rated series in Lifetime history, has been renewed for a second season of 18 episodes. The season will start sometime in the spring of 2008.

Coming soon to a TV near you: "Car Talk," the animated series. The show will be based on the call-in radio show where brothers Tom and Ray - or Click and Clack, as they're known - answer questions about listeners' cars. The series, which will air on PBS, apparently will pick up when the radio show ends, delving into the brothers' personal lives.

First Look: Heather Locklear Back at Melrose Place!

Last week Heather Locklear confirmed her return to Melrose Place, and here are the first photos as she reprises her role as Amanda Woodward. It's been 10 years since she wreaked havoc on the famous apartment complex, but Locklear still looks fabulous and fierce in her little red dress. Katie Cassidy may step right into Amanda's shoes on the new Melrose Place, but I can't wait until the original bitch is back! Are you as excited as I am?

Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette were all confirmed to appear in Scream IV, set to begin shooting in the Spring.
