Team Unicorn's Special Video Shout-Out to G33k Girls

Here's something made just for us: Team Unicorn's - y'know, because geek girls are as elusive as unicorns! - "G33k and G4m3r Girls" music video. Set to the tune of Katy Perry's Summer hit "California Gurls," this parody might just be an anthem for geek girls everywhere. Every line of the song is a reference to something awesome in the world of sci-fi, gaming, fantasy, or comics, and Team Unicorn is totally legit.

Actresses Michele Boyd, Clare Grant, Milynn Sarley, and Rileah Vanderbilt decided to turn their love for geek culture into a song shortly after attending this year's Comic-Con together. Throw in cameos from a rapping Seth Green (Clare's hubby), Katee Sackhoff, and Stan Lee, and Katy Perry may have some real competition on her hands!

TV Pilot Roundup: Will Arnett, Becki Newton, and More

The networks are recruiting for an onslaught of new TV pilots, and they're giving a second chance to several well-deserving familiar faces.

Arrested Development fans rejoice! If you can't wait for the long-anticipated movie version of the axed-too-soon show, a few of its team members may be coming to the small-screen sooner than you think. Will Arnett is joining Arrested writers Mitch Hurwitz and Jim Vallely to create a new show for Fox. The premise follows a rich Beverly Hills guy (Arnett) who marries a woman who can't stand how annoying he is. Shouldn't be too much of a stretch for Gob Bluth.
Ugly Betty may be saying goodbye this season, but Amanda is already getting work outside of Mode. Becki Newton is signing on for the NBC dramedy pilot Love Bites, a collection of stories about modern love, sex, and dating. Newton is set to play, Annie, a sunny, optimistic social worker - and virgin. Bonus: the show is from Sex and the City alumna Cindy Chupack.
If Battlestar Galactica graduate Katee Sackhoff's current stint on 24 isn't enough to whet your appetite, the actress is taking up residence at ABC for a crime drama. The currently untitled project centers on a detective (Sackhoff) who helps an ex-cop clear his name by uncovering the series of events and conspiracy that ruined his career.
Lightning is striking twice for Nicollette Sheridan. After getting the boot from Desperate Housewives, the actress is moving to CBS for a comedy pilot from the guys behind Borat and Bruno. The semi-scripted series focuses on a father who moves from the UK to LA to reunite with his daughter, a famous teen celeb; Sheridan will costar as her crazy stage mom. Fun!

Do You Avoid Heavy Weights Because It Makes You Look Too Bulky?

I'm so envious of BuzzSugar! She was lucky enough to catch up with Katee Sackhoff last week about her new role on the popular series 24. If you're a major sci-fi geek like I am, then I don't have to tell you that Katee kicked some major ass playing fighter pilot Kara "Starbuck" Thrace on the cult favorite Battlestar Galactica. She also played tough girl Sarah Corvus on the short-lived series Bionic Woman.

Although it's unlikely that she's abandoning her tough girl image for 24, Katee did say that her new role doesn't require her to do any heavy lifting.

"I used to [lift heavy weights] 'cause I needed the bulk and I needed to look like I could beat up a guy," Katee said. "I don't need that anymore. I've leaned out and I can be more delicate than I could before. It's afforded me less time at the gym, it's just more cardio now."

You'll still catch her at the gym every day, though. Not only is staying in shape part of her job, it's just who she is: "I grew up athletic and it's who I'll always be," she said.

Katee is not the first star to lay off the heavy weights to avoid looking too muscular - earlier this year, actress Kristen Bell shared the same sentiment in an interview. I'm curious how you feel about it . . .

Why Katee Sackhoff Doesn't Google

While at the TCAs last week in LA, BuzzSugar got some one-on-one time with my favorite BSG alum, Katee Sackhoff, who's settling into her new role on Fox's 24. Although we're used to seeing Kara Thrace bust some heads on the small screen (and it doesn't seem that there'll be any shortage of drama in her new role), the real Katee has a vulnerable side which keeps her from pointing her browser to Google to see what fans are saying about her. It's really quite sad, and kind of intense! When asked if she likes to keep up with her fans online, she said:

I learned a long time ago not to go online when a guy said I was so ugly it looked like I fell out of the ugly tree, hit every branch on the way down, fell on my fat ass, crawled back up, fell down again, and landed on my ugly face. I learned at that moment you can never make everyone happy and that it's better just to avoid it. What the Internet has provided is this wealth of information and knowledge, but I think it's also allowed people to be critics without having to step up. And the reason I remember that is because it was so painstakingly written to be cruel. And it's amazing to me the things that people say online. I would never say something like that about a person. It's hurtful. And so I learned a long time ago just to avoid the Internet like the plague.

Yeesh! I for one think she's gorgeous, and unfortunately her experience isn't unique. No wonder she doesn't Google . . .

Buzz Interview: Katee Sackhoff Sees a New Day

You probably recognize Katee Sackhoff from her iconic role as Starbuck on Battlestar Galactica, but the actress is ready to keep her feet on the ground as a newcomer on 24. Sackhoff will be playing Dana Walsh, a CTU analyst with some skeletons in her closet. Season eight kicks off its big season premiere tomorrow night, and I recently had the chance to chat with Katee about her character, Kiefer Sutherland, and why she still hasn't seen Avatar. Here are highlights:

On landing her new part: I was excited. When it was presented to me, I had another offer to do a TV show at the same time. As a fan of 24, I was so curious. I dug a little deeper and talked to the producers about it, and obviously I had auditioned for it. Ultimately it was such a great move for me, creatively and career-wise. I just kind of jumped at it, it was fantastic. And I continue to be excited about it, it's great.
On the sense of camaraderie on the set: It's all like a big family. 24, if there's anything they do well, it's welcome new cast members. They have so many new cast members that come on every single season that they're very good at it. Especially Mary Lynn [Rajskub], she's like "Hey, welcome aboard, I hope you don't die!" So, it's great. I've learned over the years to treat this as a job and not get too caught up in it and emotionally attached to anything. It's difficult but it has served me well on 24, because you never know what's comin'. I'm very aware that my place on 24 and in this business is finite.
On keeping things light on the set: Kiefer has Air Supply "All Outta Love" on his cell phone. So every time it rings, we hear Air Supply. That kind of starts it. Like, at one point we all broke into song. So it's great. Kiefer is a very, very, very funny man. I know that on the panels he doesn't show that side of him, but he is absolutely hysterical and everyone on the show has a great sense of humor. It's pretty easy to have fun.

On preparing for a role when you never know what's next: You just have to be committed to every moment that you play. It's a blessing and a curse, but I knew a little bit more about my character than most people would going in, just because I had so many questions about it. It hasn't shocked me too much, and I kinda knew how to play her. But it's definitely something that you have to think about, that they could turn you into a German tomorrow. You have absolutely no idea what's gonna happen.
On BSG's rabid fan base: I love the fans. I owe Battlestar and SyFy channel so much that the only reason I would be sick of it is if I didn't have something to look forward to right now. Because I do, I get to look back on it fondly instead of with resentment. It's great. I love the show, I love the fans. It's phenomenal. I have no desire to go back - it was two years ago, and I've definitely left it behind me, and I've moved on to hopefully just as exciting work.
On loving sci-fi: I grew up watching Star Trek, because in my family we had one television and two channels. So it was between Star Trek and the mating rituals of beavers. With a school teacher for a mother, you're kind of like, "Dang it, please don't make me watch another beaver special." So I definitely love sci-fi. The first movie I ever remember watching with my father was Alien. Sigourney Weaver is still my favorite actress of all time. I could only hope to have the career she's had. She's pretty amazing.
On Avatar: I haven't seen Avatar yet, 'cause I'm avoiding it until people stop seeing it. I'm not very good with crowds. I went to go see Sherlock Holmes over the holiday, and there were so many people in there. I cracked open my beer and everyone turned, and I was like "Why is everyone looking at me? Oh, it's because I snuck beer into the theater. I forgot about that." I like to sit there and pull out my food from home, like my veggie snacks and my Miller 64. I don't want to be judged. So I'm gonna wait until people stop seeing Avatar, and I'll be like the second billion dollars they make.
Will we ever see her in comedy? I don't see anyone hiring me for a half hour comedy in the near future. Which is fine, I enjoy drama. And for right now, I'll do what people want to see me do. Which is beat people up.

Josh Brings Diane to Party With Glee Kids For Fox in Pasadena

The stars of Fox partied the night away after a successful day of TCA presentations in Pasadena yesterday. Joshua Jackson had Diane Kruger with him all day and at the party, though she stayed out of the spotlight. Diane almost blended in with the crowd as she sipped a beer while Josh fielded questions about Fringe. He also talked about how much he loved going to Comic-Con and interacting with all the fans. The cast of Glee took it all in as everyone wanted to congratulate them on their upcoming show, though Lea Michele said she was mostly looking forward to everyone finally seeing more than just the pilot. Battlestar's Katee Sackhoff Signs on For 24

Battlestar Galactica fans, take note: Starbuck has a new job. Battlestar's Katee Sackhoff is joining the cast of 24 for the upcoming season.

Sackhoff will play an analyst in the new, shiny New York office of CTU. Her Dana Walsh is highly respected and down to earth, but she also "has a skeleton in her closet she's trying desperately to keep hidden." She's in a relationship with agent Davis Cole (to be played by Freddie Prinze Jr.), a former Marine with dreams of being like Jack Bauer.

Post-Battlestar, Sackhoff initially starred in an NBC pilot called Lost and Found from Law and Order's Dick Wolf, where she would have played a tough police officer. But NBC somewhat surprisingly passed on the pilot, leaving Sackhoff free to find other work. Apparently she took herself out of the running for the 24 role last week but changed her mind, threw her name back in, and ended up with the job.

Does 24 seem like a good fit for Sackhoff?

Catch Up on Battlestar Galactica in Eight and a Half Minutes

Sci Fi's Battlestar Galactica is one of those shows that people always tell me I'd be hooked on instantly if only I gave it a chance. The show returns at the end of this month and, perhaps hoping to hook potential viewers like me just in time, Sci Fi has come up with an eight and a half minute summary of everything that's happened in the show's first three seasons, following in the footsteps of similar quickie summaries of The Wire, The Sopranos, and Lost.

I love that this clip starts basic: "A battlestar is like a great big aircraft carrier, but instead of airplanes, they've got Vipers and Raptors and other cool spaceships." I'm also beginning to appreciate why my Battlestar-loving friends say "frak" so much. Longtime fans, how do you think this measures up? The show returns with a couple of specials on March 28, and the first season premieres April 4, so to catch up or refresh your memory, just

Pilot Watch: "Bionic Woman"

The networks have announced their fall schedules, but which of the series will actually be worth watching? Throughout the summer, as I watch the pilots, I'll be posting my first impressions. Note that a lot can change before a show actually makes it to air, so these aren't comprehensive reviews, just quick thoughts on how the shows look now. Today's installment: NBC's "Bionic Woman."

What's it about? A remake of the 1970s classic, the show focuses on a bartender named Jaime who is nearly killed in a horrible car crash and is rebuilt with superhuman technology that gives her incredible strength, amazing vision and a whole slew of other powers. With the technology comes a whole slew of new responsibilities - and new enemies.

Who's in it? Michelle Ryan, Miguel Ferrer, Chris Bowers, Will Yun Lee, Molly Price. Katee Sackhoff of "Battlestar Galactica" will also star in several episodes, as will Isaiah Washington.

The good: The show is well-paced and slick-looking, and - though I'm admittedly not a special effects junkie - the effects looked cool to me. For a remake of a '70s show, it feels modern. Ryan makes an appealing main character.

The bad: Ryan might not be enough of a badass to be believable as a woman on a mission to save the world; Sackhoff comes off so much tougher in all the scenes the two share. The entire story line about Jaime's deaf sister has been reconceived since the pilot was shot, so there's a lot I can't judge yet.

Will I watch? I'm curious to see how the show works with a new actress in the sister role and a little time for Ryan to grow into her tough-chick persona.
