Remake News: Casting Mr. Miyagi and a Return to Eden

Two remake-related items making news today:

The makers of The Karate Kid remake have found their Mr. Miyagi in Jackie Chan.
The remake of East of Eden is really happening, as evidenced by the hiring of a director (Tom Hooper, who directed John Adams) and a screenwriter (Christopher Hampton, who wrote the Atonement screenplay).

Some thoughts:

My feelings about a remake of The Karate Kid starring Jaden Smith aside, Mr. Miyagi is many things Jackie Chan isn't: Calm, reasonable, wise, deliberate. Jackie Chan is an entertaining guy but let's face it, he's totally ~~spazzy~~ high energy. I mean, I might actually die of laughter if I find myself in a movie theater watching Jackie Chan seriously delivering the line, "Wax on. Wax off."
And East of Eden. I really like the book and I understand why a director would want to try his hand at bringing this tale to the big screen (again), but the original version, starring the beautiful James Dean, is pretty perfect. It's a little sad but totally expected from Hollywood at this point.

What do you think of this news? Disappointing? Exciting? A little of both?

Heidi Klum had a packed afternoon on Saturday between hitting the grocery store with Lou, dropping off her short-haired boys, Johan and Henry, at karate, and accompanying Leni to ballet class. David Beckham taped an episode of The Jonathan Ross Show in London on Saturday. He was in England last week promoting his new underwear line for H&M, which we got a closer look at during the sexy, shirtless commercial that aired during the Super Bowl yesterday. David covered up in a suit on Friday night to party with pal Prince Harry at the exclusive Arts Club. David's recent talk show appearance was focused on his family, though, and he shared sweet quotes about his little girl Harper and the possibility of expanding the Beckham bunch. Here's more from David Beckham on The Jonathan Ross Show:

On expecting another boy: "After having three boys, you just assume that you’re going to have another boy, but when we got told she was a little girl, it was amazing."
On adding to the family: "We might have one more or two more, you never know. We’re not thinking about it yet, but if it happens, great. We’re enjoying the kids as it is. It’s always a thought."
On Harper having big brothers: "I just want them to protect her when she’s at that age. At that age when she needs protecting. Cruz does taekwondo, Brooklyn does boxing and Romeo does karate, so they’ll all be ready. Cruz is the one who’s going to really look after Harper, he’s the tough one."
On Harper growing up so fast: "Harper is seven months now. I can’t even look at her without welling up."

Heidi Klum kept up her routine and brought her kids to karate class in Brentwood, CA on Saturday. The martial arts practice has been a standard for the Klum-Samuel children for years, and Heidi seems to be making sure things don't change in the wake of her split with their father Seal. Heidi and Seal announced their breakup just days ago, and immediately there were many rumors about what went wrong. Seal spoke about divorcing with "dignity" when he stopped by Ellen DeGeneres's show earlier in the week, and he was spotted still wearing his wedding ring for other interviews promoting his new music.
