Sugar Editorial Picks

In 2002, Julie Powell was a secretary who blogged on the side. Now, she's a bestselling author whose first book, Julie and Julia — a former Buzz Book Club pick — has been adapted into a film starring Amy Adams and Meryl Streep. Along the way, she's stirred up some controversy (including having her dedication to cooking questioned), and so when she stopped in San Francisco earlier this week, I was curious to chat with her about the book, the movie, and what comes next.

Frankly, I think this is awesome.
Meryl Streep is in talks to play Julia Child in a film adaptation of Julie Powell's book Julie and Julia: 365 Days, 524 Recipes, 1 Tiny Apartment Kitchen. Nora Ephron (When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle) will write the adaptation and will direct as well.

Julie and Julia markets itself as being based on "two true stories": one of Julie Powell, a secretary-turned-blogger who endeavors to cook every recipe in Julia Child's Mastering the Art of French Cooking in one year; the other of Child herself, also a secretary-turned-writer and chef who brought French recipes to American cooks. But what happens if one of the two true stories just doesn't deserve equal time?
The trouble with Julie and Julia is, quite simply, that it would be a better as just Julia.

When I was putting together my Summer TV top 10 list, I couldn't choose just one ABC Family show to include. That's because the network has two new shows coming out over the next few weeks that seem like they could give old favorites like Greek a run for their money.
One of them is Make It or Break It, a show about an elite group of teen gymnastics champions whose world gets shaken up when a new hot prospect gets discovered — on a playground, no less — and comes to train at their gym.
