OLPC Uses John Lennon Voice Impersonation and Image In Commercial

I love John Lennon and what he stood for; I love OLPCs and what they stand for. Combining them in an OLPC commercial is not a completely misguided move, but the execution is a bit off. If it's not the impersonator doing a cheesy Lennon accent, then it's the lazy way they connected the man and the movement. Still, thinking of the song "Imagine" will always give me goosebumps. Watch it, and tell Read more

Chapter 27, Jared Leto

According to the AP, Jared Leto gained 60 pounds to portray John Lennon's assassin in the upcoming Chapter 27, which I've been patiently awaiting ever since Sundance 2007. Physical transformations like Leto's are often the sign of a serious, committed actor. However, Leto's off-screen press has left a sour taste in my mouth (he even slipped off Pop's manjoyment radar). Then again, if I close my Read more

Song of the Day: Mick Jagger, "Too Many Cooks (Spoil the Soup)"

This is interesting: According to music blog I Am Fuel, You Are Friends, between the years of 1973 and 1975 (a period of time known as The Lost Weekend), John Lennon wandered around working with all sorts of various musicians, like David Bowie, Elton John and Mick Jagger. According to this blogger: The track he laid down with Mick Jagger was, for a long time, just mythical. In 2003, a London Read more

Remembering John Lennon

I can't let it go unmentioned that the launch date for BuzzSugar, Dec. 8, also marks the anniversary of the death of John Lennon, one of the world's great musicians and one of my personal favorites. To mark the occasion, I just found a very fitting tribute on Music Like Dirt. With songs and commentary, this sound collage takes clips from the coverage aired by various New York radio stations the Read more
