Teaser Trailer for Terminator Salvation, Starring Christian Bale

Though I was all prepared to check out the teaser trailer for the fourth Terminator movie later tonight (it was supposed to come online around 9:00 p.m. EST), it appears that the video is available online right now. And it's pretty spooky.

The footage, such as it is, is scratchy and choppy, cutting in and out ominously while Christian Bale, as John Connor, explains that "this is not the future my mother warned me about." The scariest part comes in the last few moments - and that's the part that I think will make audiences cheer when they see this before The Dark Knight this weekend.

The movie won't open until May 22, 2009, so let the insane hyping begin. To check out the teaser,

The Descendants writers Alexander Payne, Nat Faxon, and Jim Rash are taking home the Oscar for best adapted screenplay! They beat out John Logan for Hugo, George Clooney, Grant Heslov, and Beau Willimon for The Ides of March, Steven Zaillian, Aaron Sorkin, and Stan Chervin for Moneyball, and Bridget O'Connor and Peter Straughan for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. Do you agree with this win?

The 2012 Oscar nominations have been announced! Lots of award season regulars, like The Artist and The Descendants, got some love, but there were also a handful of surprises, like nominations for Nick Nolte, Gary Oldman, and Terrence Malick. Bridesmaids also scored big, with noms for best original screenplay and best supporting actress for Melissa McCarthy.

The Academy chose nine films for best picture, with lots of familiar titles in there, plus a couple that had early awards buzz but haven't necessarily had consistent attention, like Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close and The Tree of Life. The films that racked up the most nominations were Hugo with 11 and The Artist with 10.

Award season is officially around the corner, which means the nominations are coming in droves now. The Critics' Choice nominees feature some of the same contenders we've been expecting, like The Descendants and The Artist, but also has a few surprises. Namely, Martin Scorsese's Hugo has emerged as a force to be reckoned with, leading the pack with 11 nods.

Brad Pitt's got not one but two movies up for best picture, with Moneyball and The Tree of Life, not to mention a best actor nod for himself. The Help also cleaned up with eight nominations. On a personal note, we're excited to see some of our favorite 2012 comedies getting some recognition, like The Muppets, Horrible Bosses, and of course, Bridesmaids.

Katie Holmes Does Lunch as Tom Cruise Finds a New Link to the Small Screen

Katie Holmes did the denim-on-denim thing yesterday for lunch with a pal at LA's Urth Cafe. She's in California with her husband, Tom Cruise, and daughter, Suri, while he's on hiatus from shooting Rock of Ages in Florida. Katie and Suri wore their high heels for a recent Memorial Day party at their friend Joel Silver's home, and Tom, along with Connor Cruise, was also able to make the bash. Tom broke from family time last night to attend the Super 8 premiere alongside the film's star, Elle Fanning, director J. J. Abrams, and producer Steven Spielberg. Tom and J.J. worked together on Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol while the actor and Steven have worked on films like War of the Worlds and Minority Report. Another of Tom's endeavors is getting new life on the small screen - Josh Lucas will star in the NBC series The Firm, based on the John Grisham book and Tom's successful 1993 film of the same name.

5 Reasons to Watch Falling Skies This Summer

I sat in on the Falling Skies panel yesterday at WonderCon, and although I walked in not knowing much of anything about the Steven Spielberg-backed project on TNT, I walked out pretty excited to tune in when it debuts on June 19. After hearing what writers Melinda Hsu, Mark Verheiden, and star Drew Roy had to say about the series, and seeing a few sneak peeks, I came up with five reasons you should tune in this Summer. Check them out below!

The cast - Not only does the cast consist of ER alum Noah Wyle (who's been gone from the small screen for far too long in my opinion), but also stars Moon Bloodgood (Journeyman and Terminator Salvation), and up-and-comer Drew Roy (Secretariat), who is pretty easy on the eyes as a mashup between Joseph Gordon Levitt, Jake Gyllenhaal, and John Connor.
The story - From what I could tell from the clips, sci-fi addicts Melinda Hsu and Mark Verheiden are poised to do the genre justice. Falling Skies takes place six months after a worldwide alien invasion, where children are being rounded up and controlled with biomechanical harnesses. No one knows what they're being used for. There is a resistance movement, and the whole story feels a lot like one of my recent faves, The Walking Dead, except with, you know, aliens.
