Movie News Roundup: Stephen King, Kevin Spacey, Sam Raimi Get Busy

Lots of intriguing movie news coming out of Hollywood today:

Kevin Spacey will star in the indie film Shrink as a depressed therapist who likes to ah, partake of the ganja. (A pot-smoking therapist? That sounds familiar.) His clients in the movie will include "Hollywood characters" like Robin Williams, Keke Palmer, Laura Ramsey and Gore Vidal, among others.
Columbia and Sam Raimi will team up together again after their Spider-Man ventures for yet another adaptation of a Dennis Lehane novel. Lehane's books make excellent screenplays, apparently, as Mystic River, Gone Baby Gone and the upcoming DiCaprio-Scorsese project Shutter Island have all been adapted. Next up, Raimi will direct a film version of The Given Day, which follows Boston cops in 1919.
Speaking of adaptations, the rights to an as-yet-unpublished Stephen King novella Throttle - which he wrote with his son Joe Hill - have already been optioned. The story is about "father-son members of a motorcycle gang that's chased through the desert by an 18-wheel tanker truck." The novella will be a part of a 2009 anthology dedicated to I Am Legend author Richard Matheson.

The 2012 People's Choice Awards nominations were announced at the Paley Center for Media in Beverly Hills this morning. Busy Philipps donned a green dress and Julianne Hough stepped out in white for the occasion. Nominee Kaley Cuoco was there to call out some of this year's honorees, as was Elisha Cuthbert, Sharon Osbourne, and Joe Jonas. Some of the nominees in the movie categories include Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, Bridesmaids, and Moneyball. On the small screen, The Good Wife, Modern Family, and Fringe are all in the running for awards.

This year's show should be especially star-studded since Gwyneth Paltrow is up for favorite TV guest star, Beyoncé Knowles could take home favorite female artist, and George Clooney is nominated for movie icon. Ashley Greene Heads Home From Lunch With Some Leftovers

Ashley Greene sported red lips and oversized sunglasses as she left Cafe Med in Beverly Hills yesterday. The actress is hanging out close to home following the premiere of her coming-of-age movie Skateland, which opened in select theaters last weekend. She appears with Red Riding Hood's Shiloh Fernandez in the film, which is one of several projects she has coming out soon. Both Butter, in which Ashley stars opposite Jennifer Garner, and the Demi Moore and Miley Cyrus-headlined LOL will arrive in theaters this year. Ashley's focusing on her flourishing film career and seems to be enjoying the single life. She's been romantically linked to several cute guys since her split from Joe Jonas, including her Twilight saga costar Jackson Rathbone and former flame Jared Followill.

Jessica Alba Talks Pregnancy, Travel Tips, and Her Summer Reads as She Plays Host For Rimowa

Jessica Alba glammed up with a mani-pedi yesterday afternoon as she prepped to host the opening of the Beverly Hills Rimowa store last night. The actress looked radiant in bold blue eyeliner and a look by Lanvin at the luxury luggage brand's party, which also drew the likes of Brad Goreski, Amy Smart, and True Blood star Joe Manganiello. We spoke with the soon-to-be mother of two, who told us she's been working to juggle pregnancy while caring for her toddler, Honor. The duo are back in LA following a girls' getaway to Cabo, where Jessica showed off her baby bump in a bikini and splashed in the water with her daughter. Jessica's career keeps her jet-setting for much of the year, so she also shared her expert travel tips and revealed the item she and Honor both require when they fly. Jessica said:

On how pregnancy is different the second time around: "I'm chill. I was freaked my first time going into labor. Like, what if I panic? What if I just freak out and I don't know what to do? It's a little bit harder on the body because my daughter still wants to be picked up. Ever since my belly popped, she really is on me!"
On why it's important to have a nice suitcase: "For me, a great luggage is like a great pair of shoes because I use my luggage so much. And I'm that girl that actually uses the lifetime warranty on my luggage because my zippers break all the time and I sit on my luggage. It never fails, no matter how big the luggage or how many pieces I have, I have to sit on my luggage to close it. It's nice to have something that's literally indestructible, and there's nothing like this brand . . . I also like that it's chic and it's understated, and it's like a mixture of masculine and feminine. You get that little bit of shine, but it's still quite sturdy."
On how traveling with kids changes things: "It's two suitcases you have to sit on to close!"
On her travel essentials: "Eye cream. I have a blanket that I travel with . . . it's so dorky! But I travel with it on the plane all the time, and Honor has one too, actually."
On her packing tips: "I use these bags inside my luggage that take out all the air, and keeps everything separate. And then when something gets dirty, on one side is clean and one side is dirty. It keeps everything compartmentalized and organized. And I pack in outfits. If I have three days and three nights, I literally have the entire outfit together, so I don't have to think."
On her favorite Summer read: "I just got a new one that I just started, that's a little depressing, called Room. But I just finished the Patti Smith book [Just Kids] and it was great."

Shia LaBeouf Keeps His Lips and Arms on His New Girlfriend

Shia LaBeouf followed up a lunch date at Sweet Butter Cafe in LA yesterday by planting a kiss on his girl. He and his lady friend, who was spotted hanging out with the actor as far back as February, seem to be going strong as Shia enjoys a brief break from big-screen work. He'll be back in action with a big Summer release - check out the new trailer for Transformers: Dark of the Moon, which is out on July 1, shortly after Shia's big 25th birthday in mid-June. Promotion for that movie will see Shia back with Megan Fox's replacement, Victoria's Secret model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, who was just ranked as the hottest woman alive by Maxim! He recently wrapped up shooting The Wettest County in the World along with costars Tom Hardy and Mia Wasikowska. Shia's also due to be back on set in the coming months in Horns, an adaptation of a book written by Stephen King's son Joe Hill.

Shia LaBeouf Grows a Pair . . . of Horns

Ever wonder what Shia LaBeouf would look like with a pair of horns in his curly hair? Me neither, but we're about to find out. The actor has signed on for Horns, a film adaptation of a novel by the same name. Shia will star as the protagonist Ig, a 26-year-old who wakes up to find that his girlfriend has been murdered and he's been cursed with some devilish new headgear.

The novel was written by Stephen King's son Joe Hill (who is also set to play exec producer), so it's no surprise that the film is being described as a "love story driven by horror and vengeance." Sounds like a creepy Pinocchio-type story to me, but I'm intrigued by the blend of fantasy, terror, and romance. Have you read the best-selling book? And can you see Shia in the role?
