The Cast of Seinfeld Puts Their Reunion on the Cover of EW

We've known about the Seinfeld reunion on the upcoming season of Curb Your Enthusiasm for a while now, but there's something about seeing the foursome all together again in Entertainment Weekly that's making me feel extra nostalgic. (It's almost enough to make me forget about that whole Michael Richards incident from a few years back - almost). In the article, the cast dishes about what we can expect from their stint on Curb (including a revisit to Jerry's apartment and Monk's diner!) and how it feels to have the gang back together. Here are a few of my favorite quotes:

Julia Louis-Dreyfus on being back together: "It’s the anti-reunion reunion, and I’d like to copyright that."
Jason Alexander on playing George again: "Just before we shot that scene, I said to Jerry and Julia, ‘I don’t know if I can be George. I haven’t tried him on in a while,' and it was freaky how it just came right back out."
Michael Richards on seeing his former costars again: "I did feel like I was in the company of good friends. It's like, Larry and Jerry are in the front seat, Julia and Jason are in the backseat, and I'm back there in the corner and I'm like a big dog. The window's open, and my head's hanging out the window and I'm feeling all that good air on my face. And I'm just so happy that we're all together, going someplace."

I've drifted in and out of watching Curb for the last few seasons, but, like many of you, I can't wait to see the Seinfeld crew again. Jerry and Larry David also make it clear that there won't be another reunion, so this should be one for the books. Giddyup.

Seinfeld's Upcoming TV Appearances - Excited or Over It?

Jerry Seinfeld will be the first guest on The Jay Leno Show, and the guys have already started hanging out before the big night. Check out the clip below where Jerry shows off his Porsche and chats with Jay at the racetrack. His late night appearance is just the beginning, since we'll be welcoming Jerry back to the small screen on the new season of Curb Your Enthusiasm. Like tons of other devoted fans, I dreamed of a Seinfeld reunion when the show ended, but I'm wondering if people still love Jerry after all these years off the air. What to Netflix: New DVD Tuesday

All of the new DVD releases hit stores (and Netflix) on Tuesdays. So each week in What to Netflix: New DVD Tuesday, I sort through the best of the batch and tell you what to add to your queue.

Ratatouille
This sweet, funny Pixar film was the summer's biggest animated hit (because let's face it, Shrek the Third was pretty unnecessary). And what's not to love? There's a rat who likes to cook and a dorky, gangly human who wants to cook but can't seem to separate the cilantro from the basil. So they team up, of course. Adventures ensue.

The DVD features some extras, like deleted scenes and a new animated short film. There's also a featurette in which master chef and restaurateur Thomas Keller explains how he brought his culinary expertise to the film.

Two more new releases I'd recommend if you read more

Seinfeld - Season Nine
This 4-disc set of the final Seinfeld season includes all 24 episodes of the season and plenty of extra features. In addition to bloopers and deleted scenes, there are episode-specific "making of" documentaries, and apparently a featurette in which Jerry and friends defend the final episode of the series which disappointed many a Seinfeld fan.

If you're not satisfied with just the ninth season DVD set of the show TV Guide called the greatest of all time, well, there's the complete series (as in, all the seasons of Seinfeld) also releasing on DVD today.

Flight of the Conchords - Season One
Okay, if you haven't seen this HBO series you're going to want to Netflix this first season, and if you have seen this series, your DVD set is probably already in the mail from Amazon. Flight of the Conchords follows a two-man digi-folk band from New Zealand that travels to New York in the hopes of "making it big." They simply cannot help bursting into song at every opportunity, and that is hilarious. If you are a fan of shows like The Office, you'll probably want to check out the Conchords.

Bee Movie: Seinfeld Flies Successfully Into a New Genre

In the B-movie world, movie titles and posters often come before the scripts. Similarly, with Bee Movie, creator Jerry Seinfeld first came up with the "bee movie" pun came and then wrote a film to fit the title. Those humble beginnings had me a bit worried before going into this movie; as a huge Seinfeld fan, I really wanted to see the comedian succeed.

Bee Movie gets off to a rather pedestrian start, with humor dominated by lazy puns that, admittedly, are more kid-friendly than what follows. The story follows Barry B. Benson (Seinfeld) upon graduating from college in a New York hive. Unlike his buttoned-down buddy Adam (Matthew Broderick), Barry is distraught at the prospect of doing the same job every day for the rest of his existence. After sullenly lounging around his family's pool - in a scene that heavily references The Graduate - Barry decides to join the "pollen jocks" on their next trip out of the hive. From there, the movie starts to gain laughs and momentum, so read more

Barry befriends a florist named Vanessa Bloome (Renee Zellweger), who is dating, against her better judgment but to our entertainment, an obnoxious jock voiced by Patrick Warburton (Seinfeld's Puddy). Barry breaks bee rule No. 1 and speaks to a human, and soon, he's smitten with Vanessa and the outside world.

The plot picks up when Barry learns that humans are "stealing" bee honey and selling it in supermarkets, leading to a dramatic, action-packed story that pokes fun at corporate litigation and champions the importance of the environment.

The movie has the same saccharine look as other Dreamworks projects, but thankfully, Bee Movie forgoes the usual fart jokes in favor of classic Seinfeld delivery, surprising cameos, and witty pop-culture references. When Barry survives being swatted with a pamphlet, he mourns: "I lost a cousin to Italian Vogue once."

As a fan of Seinfeld's comedy, I found this movie far funnier than most animated features. My main gripe is that I'm not sure how entertaining it would be for kids. At my screening, the big laughs were undoubtedly adult guffaws, and I heard one boy, who looked to be about 10, say afterwards that he found it boring. Unfortunately, I can't offer an opinion from the kid perspective, but as an adult, I'm glad to see Seinfeld succeeding in a new medium.

TV Tonight: "30 Rock"

"30 Rock," one of the big surprises of last year's TV season and this year's Emmy awards, returns to TV tonight. The Outstanding Comedy Series winner is hoping to make a splash with its first show since taking home the Emmy, dialing up a guest star with the power to bring in lots of new viewers: Jerry Seinfeld.

I got a chance to see tonight's episode early, and I'm happy to report the show's still got it. It's not the funniest episode of the series so far, but it has some stellar moments - including the setup for Seinfeld's appearance, which centers on a revolutionary tactic Jack has developed to insert Seinfeld into all of the network's programming. As always, one of the best parts of "30 Rock" is the humor it pokes at its own industry, and Jack's listing of his summer reality shows - "MILF Island," "Are You Stronger Than a Dog?" - hits hilariously close to home.

If you haven't seen "30 Rock" before and are curious now that it's got an Emmy, this episode wouldn't be a bad introduction. It's not perfect, but it's a great warm-up episode to ease us back into the show's screwball sensibility. To watch a preview, just read more

TCA News Roundup: NBC Shuffles Shows, Adds Trump

In addition to all-fantasy Mondays, NBC announced a few more changes to its schedule during Monday's TCA presentation. On Tuesday nights, "The Singing Bee" will lead in to a 90-minute edition of "The Biggest Loser." "Friday Night Lights" will shift to 9 p.m. on Fridays instead of 10 p.m., with "Deal or No Deal" as a lead-in and "Las Vegas" following it at 10.
It's official: "The Apprentice" is back with a special celebrity edition. The idea is for celebrities who have a business focus to duke it out, and apparently Donald Trump is encouraging Rosie O'Donnell to sign up. The involved celebrities will be raising money for charity, so at least there's something redeeming about this project.
Jerry Seinfeld will star as himself in the season premiere of "30 Rock," going toe-to-toe with Alec Baldwin's character, the bullish Jack Donaghy. Seinfeld's quip in NBC's statement: "I think it's going to be so refreshing for me to be playing myself in a show that has nothing to do with neurotic, dysfunctional New York characters." Tina Fey, meanwhile, said she was happy to have Seinfeld drop by so the rest of America would learn that "30 Rock" exists.
NBC entertainment co-chairman Ben Silverman believes the network has "the next great reality format" in "Phenomenon," which will feature Uri Geller and Criss Angel searching for the next great mentalist. Geller and Angel will judge contestants' abilities in weekly challenges, with viewers at home voting for the ultimate winner.
Norman Lear, the mind behind "All in the Family" and other classic sitcoms, will be returning to TV, working as a producer on a one-hour comedy focused on a single mother battling sexism on Wall Street.

Funny New Bee Movie Trailer

When a movie's promotional stunt includes Jerry Seinfeld dangling from a crane in a bee outfit, I am so there. And now DreamWorks has a new full-length trailer for their animated November 2 release, Bee Movie, so we have some actual context to go along with the random promo that caught everyone's eye.

I have to say, I really like Seinfeld, so I'll watch a talking bee if it's his voice any day, especially since the premise seems really cute: Barry B. Benson (the bee voiced by Seinfeld) discovers that humans have been stealing bees' honey and he decides to do something about it. So he sues. In the meantime, he befriends a human named Vanessa (voiced by Renee Zellweger), and they apparently have a romantic picnic together. To see what the heck is going on with this trailer, read more
