Owen Wilson and Michael Sheen Bring Paris to the West Coast

Midnight in Paris stars Owen Wilson and Michael Sheen brought Woody Allen's latest project to LA last night. The twosome were just off a screening in NYC and their world premiere in Cannes last week. New dad Owen was happy to chat and beamed when talking about his son, Robert, gushing about the infant's latest triumphs. Apparently, the little guy just learned to roll over. While Michael was without the company of his real-life leading lady Rachel McAdams, he did have sweet things to say in her absence. Michael revealed that the whole cast became like a family on location in Paris, and it was especially lovely to meet Rachel, which he described as the "start of a lovely relationship" - stay tuned for more on tomorrow's PopSugar Rush! Woody Allen may consider becoming a matchmaker in his spare time since he has a knack for bringing couples together, like Vicky Christina Barcelona stars Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem. Woody's film goes head-to-head against Penelope's Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides when both films open nationwide this weekend.

Win Win: It's a Winner

Win Win has all the necessary elements for a great indie film: a down-on-his-luck central character, a strong cast, and a quirky but heartwarming comeback story told with humor. Though it's a smaller film, Win Win appeals to a wider audience with its charm.

Paul Giamatti stars as small-town attorney/high school wrestling coach, Mike Flaherty. Stuck with a struggling legal practice (and a bad hot-water heater), Mike is cutting costs to keep his business afloat while still providing for his wife Jackie (Amy Ryan) and his young daughters. When one of Mike's elderly clients needs a guardian to provide for his care, Mike takes on the job to make some extra cash. But when the man's grandson Kyle (Alex Shaffer) unexpectedly shows up, Mike becomes way more involved in the family's life than he bargained for.

read more. Kyle is a high school kid with bleached hair and back tattoos (Jackie calls him Eminem). After his mom (Melanie Lynskey) winds up in rehab, he flees home to track down the grandpa he's never met and encounters Mike instead. Mike takes Kyle in, and he starts bringing him along to his wrestling practices. The teenager proves to be star on the mat, and Mike finally eyes the opportunity to give his ragtag high school team a chance at ending their losing streak. Writer and director Thomas McCarthy (The Visitor, The Station Agent) gives the actors great material to work with, and the entire cast rises to the occasion. Mike is, by nature, a good guy who makes some wrong choices. Kyle's mom is an addict who's only out for herself, but we also get glimpses of her genuine remorse for her lack of parenting skills. The dynamic between Mike and his two closest friends played Bobby Cannavale and Jeffrey Tambor are especially hilarious. Win Win isn't just a film about a flailing wrestling team. It's about human connection, family, and the importance of doing the right thing. It's these larger themes that really take the film beyond being another underdog story.

Ricky Gervais' This Side of the Truth Is Going to Be So Awesome

First off:
This Side of the Truth, written and directed by Ricky Gervais, looks like it's going to be awesome. The story is set in a world where no one has ever lied, and, according to Gervais, he plays "a loser who discovers one day that he, and only he has the ability to lie. In a world where no one even understands the concept of lying, everyone totally believes, without question anything I tell them. I can say anything at all and they accept this as the gospel truth. I can get anything I want. Or can I?"

Secondly:
Gervais is awesomely blogging his experience of working on this movie, from his collaboration with co-writer and director Matt Robinson ("During the [conference] call me and Matt passed each other off-putting notes and obscene pictures to make each other laugh. I lost, and at one point had to leave the room") to observations about picking out costumes as an actor ("Some directors/lead actors would choose their wardrobe based on style, creation of original iconography and aesthetic enhancement of the fictional world. I chose mine based on comfort, how long they take to get in and out of and on what I would want to keep when the movie is complete.")

Thirdly:
Look at all the ridiculously cool people in this movie. Jennifer Garner, Jonah Hill, Rob Lowe and Louis C.K. are confirmed, while Gervais has stated on his blog that Tina Fey, Christopher Guest (Christopher Guest!), Jeffrey Tambor and John Hodgman have also been cast.

This is going to be awesome.

Arrested Development Movie: It Really Might Happen

Bluth family reunion! It's been rumored before, but now there's some news that makes the Arrested Development movie seem a bit more likely. What are the odds?

Actually, the odds may be quite good: Jason Bateman told E! that talks are officially in the works to bring the Bluths back together on the big screen. Bateman and Jeffrey Tambor both said they've gotten calls asking if they'd be up for a movie (answer: yes), and other ex-Bluths are reportedly doing the same.

Creator Mitchell Hurwitz doesn't have a script yet, but according to E!, he does have "a good, solid understanding of what he'd like to do for the movie" and a studio (Universal) that would be interested in making it happen. Actually putting the film together would happen sometime after the end of the writers' strike, so there's another reason to plead for a resolution.

First Look: Welcome to the Captain

Sometime after last May's Upfronts, CBS quietly picked up a comedy series about an eccentric group of people living in a fabled Los Angeles apartment building. Good thing they got it: With The Big Bang Theory out of episodes, Welcome to the Captain will take over its 8:30 p.m. Monday slot on the network's schedule starting Feb. 4.

The show comes from writer John Hamburg, who made his name whipping out movies for Ben Stiller (including Zoolander and Meet the Parents). Since it focuses on a group of wildly different strangers, it's no surprise that the cast is equally eclectic: Jeffery Tambor, Raquel Welch, Chris Klein, and Freaks and Geeks alum Joanna Garcia are among the stars.

The show looks a lot different from the other CBS comedies: It's shot in a style more like The Office than Two and a Half Men. That, for me, is good news, though I know millions of people like their CBS comedies just the way they are. The bad news is that none of the clips I've watched so far have made me laugh out loud - but maybe it's the kind of show that needs a full episode to get into a groove. NBC's new series Bent took its turn at the Winter TCA today to give reporters more insight into the show, which is about a mildly uptight woman (Amanda Peet) who hires a laid-back contractor (David Walton) to redecorate her kitchen. Though the show is all about the sexual tension between those two characters, the cast, which also includes Jeffrey Tambor and J.B. Smoove, proved just how funny the show might be by delivering nonstop quips as they answered questions about the series. Check out my five favorite quotes below.

Tina, Dax, Amy, and More TV Stars Celebrate Their Small-Screen Success at the NBC Upfronts

The NBC upfronts were packed with TV's hottest celebs in NYC yesterday. Christina Aguilera, Tina Fey, Joel McHale, and more were on hand for the event, which announces the network's small-screen schedules for the Fall season. Christina was there, along with Carson Daly, to promote The Voice, and she sat down on The Today Show this morning to talk about what attracted her to the judging job. Jenna Dewan was on hand for The Playboy Club, which also stars Eddie Cibrian, and she hung out with his wife, LeAnn Rimes, before the big press day. Pregnant Tina celebrated the renewal of 30 Rock, as did Parks and Recreation's Amy Poehler and Aziz Ansari. Amanda Peet talked up her new comedy with David Walton and Jeffrey Tambor, Bent, and shared that she will most likely bring her two daughters to the set when filming recommences. Christina Applegate stepped out following the January birth of her first child to chat about Up All Night with Maya Rudolph and Amy's husband, Will Arnett. Dax Shepard, Erika Christensen, and Lauren Graham represented Parenthood, and Nick Lachey made the quick trip to the Big Apple for The Sing-Off before heading back to LA.
