Ricky Gervais' This Side of the Truth Is Going to Be So Awesome

First off:
This Side of the Truth, written and directed by Ricky Gervais, looks like it's going to be awesome. The story is set in a world where no one has ever lied, and, according to Gervais, he plays "a loser who discovers one day that he, and only he has the ability to lie. In a world where no one even understands the concept of lying, everyone totally believes, without question anything I tell them. I can say anything at all and they accept this as the gospel truth. I can get anything I want. Or can I?"

Secondly:
Gervais is awesomely blogging his experience of working on this movie, from his collaboration with co-writer and director Matt Robinson ("During the [conference] call me and Matt passed each other off-putting notes and obscene pictures to make each other laugh. I lost, and at one point had to leave the room") to observations about picking out costumes as an actor ("Some directors/lead actors would choose their wardrobe based on style, creation of original iconography and aesthetic enhancement of the fictional world. I chose mine based on comfort, how long they take to get in and out of and on what I would want to keep when the movie is complete.")

Thirdly:
Look at all the ridiculously cool people in this movie. Jennifer Garner, Jonah Hill, Rob Lowe and Louis C.K. are confirmed, while Gervais has stated on his blog that Tina Fey, Christopher Guest (Christopher Guest!), Jeffrey Tambor and John Hodgman have also been cast.

This is going to be awesome.

Arrested Development Movie: It Really Might Happen

Bluth family reunion! It's been rumored before, but now there's some news that makes the Arrested Development movie seem a bit more likely. What are the odds?

Actually, the odds may be quite good: Jason Bateman told E! that talks are officially in the works to bring the Bluths back together on the big screen. Bateman and Jeffrey Tambor both said they've gotten calls asking if they'd be up for a movie (answer: yes), and other ex-Bluths are reportedly doing the same.

Creator Mitchell Hurwitz doesn't have a script yet, but according to E!, he does have "a good, solid understanding of what he'd like to do for the movie" and a studio (Universal) that would be interested in making it happen. Actually putting the film together would happen sometime after the end of the writers' strike, so there's another reason to plead for a resolution.

First Look: Welcome to the Captain

Sometime after last May's Upfronts, CBS quietly picked up a comedy series about an eccentric group of people living in a fabled Los Angeles apartment building. Good thing they got it: With The Big Bang Theory out of episodes, Welcome to the Captain will take over its 8:30 p.m. Monday slot on the network's schedule starting Feb. 4.

The show comes from writer John Hamburg, who made his name whipping out movies for Ben Stiller (including Zoolander and Meet the Parents). Since it focuses on a group of wildly different strangers, it's no surprise that the cast is equally eclectic: Jeffery Tambor, Raquel Welch, Chris Klein, and Freaks and Geeks alum Joanna Garcia are among the stars.

The show looks a lot different from the other CBS comedies: It's shot in a style more like The Office than Two and a Half Men. That, for me, is good news, though I know millions of people like their CBS comedies just the way they are. The bad news is that none of the clips I've watched so far have made me laugh out loud - but maybe it's the kind of show that needs a full episode to get into a groove.
