Are You Surprised by Forbes's Top-Earning Men in Prime Time?

Forbes recently released the list of Prime Time's Top-Earning Men. Who made the cut? In order, they are: Simon Cowell, followed by Donald Trump, Ryan Seacrest, Charlie Sheen, Steve Carell, Howie Mandel, Kiefer Sutherland, Jeff Foxworthy, Hugh Laurie, and at No. 10 (a tie!) David Caruso of CSI: Miami and Patrick Dempsey.

Simon Cowell at No. 1 is a no-brainer, thanks to the unstoppable machine that is American Idol (not to mention all of his other shows). But there are a few names that made me do a double take. Jeff Foxworthy, for instance - who knew that Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader was such a money generator? And where's Jeff Probst? I guess the Survivor franchise doesn't carry as much clout as I thought.

What about you? Other than maybe Simon Cowell at number 1, do you find this list surprising?

Men Obsessed With Their "Decks"

After a big Fourth of July barbecue, these guys sit around drinking beer and chatting. Inevitably, conversation moves to the topic of "decks": size, maintenance, protection, and the problem of raccoons...wait. That must've hurt!

Product of the Day: Jeff Foxworthy Beef Jerky

There's nothing funnier than a bad press release. You can just imagine marketing people sitting around trying to make something like Jeff Foxworthy Beef Jerky sound...important. Let's see how bad it can get: "The low-carb dieting trend has thrusted meat snacks into the media spotlight." Thrusted, eh? "Jerky appeals to a wider demographic, including women, children and health-conscious consumers." Yeah, right. "Jeff Foxworthy is the ideal celebrity brand to market Monogram's jerky products..." yaddah, yaddah. Having said that, I'd still try it.

TV Tonight: "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?"

Isn't that the kind of question only Fox would ask? The new Mark Burnett-produced, Jeff Foxworthy-hosted game show premieres tonight after the "American Idol" performance episode. And Fox is hoping "Smarter" can ride the post-"Idol" wave all week: It's on after the Wednesday and Thursday shows, too. These first two episodes are half-hour "preview" episodes, and starting on Thursday, the show will be an hour long.

While I love me a good redneck joke every now and then, I'm not sure I can handle an hour of Foxworthy as the host (also, note to Jeff: the glasses don't make you look smarter). I'd be tempted to give this one a pass altogether, if not for two things:

The peanut gallery of young'uns whose job is to heckle the adult contestants, and
My sneaking suspicion that most of America is, in fact, dumber than a fifth grader

For the record, I only got 8 out of 10 right on this fifth-grade trivia quiz. I'm pretty sure that would have gotten me a C in my elementary school. To watch a promo for the show,
