One For the Money Trailer: Katherine Heigl Is a Bounty Hunter With an Attitude, Jersey Accent

Don't think that just because Katherine Heigl is playing a bounty hunter in One For the Money that she's left her romantic comedy clichés behind. Heigl stars as Stephanie Plum, a New Jersey native who loses her job in retail and ends up working for a family member who's a bail bondsman. One of her first assignments is to nab a man, Joe Morelli (played Terra Nova's Jason O'Mara), who has skipped out on his bail bond. Even though Morelli is Stephanie's mark, he just so happens to be her ex. (Sounds an awful lot like The Bounty Hunter, no?)

Even though Heigl is treading in familiar territory, at least her character is a bit of a stretch from what we usually see from her - she's a tough-talking Jersey girl prone to whipping her shirt off if need be. From the trailer, the movie is entirely predictable, but fans of the book by Janet Evanovich will probably be curious to see Heigl as Plum. Check it out for yourself when you keep reading.

First Look: Life on Mars

So far, we haven't seen too much of ABCs remake of Life on Mars. The show, which will begin airing after Grey's Anatomy on Oct. 9, had a pretty tricky road to TV, with nearly every actor being recast except for leading man Jason O'Mara. The cast now includes Michael Imperioli, Gretchen Mol, and Harvey Keitel, who are finally starting to show up in promos and clips.

The show, based on a British series, finds O'Mara's character - a New York City cop named Sam Tyler- mysteriously transported back to the 1970s. Keitel plays an older detective, Gene Hunt, who doesn't always follow protocol, while Imperioli plays another officer and Mol plays a woman trying to prove she deserves a shot at police work.

One clip of Sam and Gene meeting in a bar surfaced recently, and now there's a brief ABC promo showing shots of Imperioli and Mol as well. Still no pilot, but I'm hoping that will appear before too long. I enjoyed the British version of the show, but all the trouble this adaptation has run into has left me feeling wary. Troubled Life on Mars Adaptation Could Have Life on ABC

One of the pilots I've been curious about for more than a year now is ABC's remake of the BBC series Life on Mars, which followed a police officer who found himself somehow transported to 1973. The remake, which David E. Kelley was writing and producing, was originally expected to be considered for the current TV season - but Kelley had trouble finding a man to play his lead character, so the pilot was never made.

Fast-forward a year. Jason O'Mara (at left), most recently seen as the brain tumor/bear attack guy on Grey's Anatomy, has been cast as officer Sam Tyler, the pilot has been filmed, and all is going well. In fact, ABC is reportedly close to giving the show a spot on its schedule ahead of next week's upfronts.

Oh, except there's one more problem: Now Kelley might leave, and since he owns the U.S. rights to the show, its future is mostly up to him. One option has the October Road team coming on to run the show, which makes my stomach feel a bit queasy; I've seen several episodes of the original Life on Mars, and while Kelley might not be the perfect fit to write a remake, I think he's closer than the Road folks.

After all of this, I'm wondering if Life on Mars is even a show people want to see. I wasn't familiar with O'Mara until his recent Grey's arc, and he bugged me there - but that could have been the character's fault, not his. Would you want to watch more of him? Pilot Scoop: Terra Nova

With Summer quickly drawing to a close, we're continuing to prep you for the upcoming Fall TV season by giving you the lowdown on the new shows. Today I'm taking a look at Fox's new drama Terra Nova, which follows a family as they travel through time to be part of an experiment to save the human race.

What it's about: The year is 2149, and the world in on the brink of extinction due to nearly unlivable environmental conditions. The Shannon family is chosen to travel back in time to a prehistoric settlement called Terra Nova to take part in an experiment that is mankind's only hope for survival. On the surface, Terra Nova seems idyllic, with modern homes, a verdant landscape, and friendly brontosauruses that will eat from your hand. However, during their first full day at the settlement, Jim (Jason O'Mara) and Elisabeth Shannon (Shelley Conn) begin to discover that things aren't as peaceful as they seem.
Where it works: The pilot does a great job of piquing interest in the mystery behind the Terra Nova settlement. We learn that Commander Nathaniel Taylor (Stephen Lang) is keeping secrets from the settlers, and are left to wonder why someone attempts to assassinate him. The show is also visually stunning with gorgeous natural scenery full of cascading waterfalls and never-ending greenery, as well as impressive special effects used to bring the show's roaming dinosaurs to life.
Where it doesn't: At its heart, the show is still about the Shannon family, but the pilot drives that point home a little too hard. While there are some sweet moments between Jim and his children, when the Shannons talk about how they just want to be a normal family, it's a bit much. Commander Taylor also smacks of Lang's bad-guy Avatar character, which makes me worry that he'll be an over-the-top villain.
You might like this show if: You're interested in a cross between Jurassic Park and Lost.

Terra Nova Is More Than Just a Dinosaur Show

Terra Nova is one of the most-anticipated series of the Fall, in large part because the pilot has been in production for so long. The drama, which is set in the year 2149, follows the Shannon family as they participate in a program that lets them go back in time (way back, to when dinosaurs roamed the earth) to recolonize the earth. The cast and showrunners spoke to reporters at the TCA today, discussing how they film the show in Queensland, Australia, who Terra Nova is meant for, and why this show is no Jurassic Park.

The fact that dinosaurs exist on this show has created a ton of buzz for it already. That said, the showrunners are insistent that Terra Nova is more focused on family than anything else. They said that finding a believable family that you can "fall in love with" was a bigger challenge than creating a dinosaur. They also hinted that dinos won't be the only creatures we'll be seeing, as there's "an entire ecosystem of all different creatures."
Jason O'Mara, who recently starred on Life on Mars, plays the patriarch of the Shannon family. When asked if there's any overlap between the time-traveling shows, he said, "I was aware of the similarities when I read the script but the differences are so overwhelming that I can't even compare the two."
Steven Spielberg is one of the many executive producers on Terra Nova, and the showrunners said he weighed in on visual effects, casting, script, concept art, overall look, and feel of the show. They added that "his movies have had more impact on television than his television."
Though the show is written for adults, the showrunners said the ultimate goal is to attract kids and a younger audience with the special effects, thus creating a series that the whole family can enjoy.
O'Hara and costar Shelley Conn, who plays his onscreen wife, said that filming in Australia is difficult because they are so far away from their families. That said, they added that they liked making an adventure out of the experience, and it helps them relate to their characters because they "feel like displaced pioneer families."
