Who's Your Favorite: James Bond or Jason Bourne?

It's the ultimate showdown (of today): Jason Bourne vs. James Bond! Which character do you prefer? Matt Damon recently had some nasty words to say about James Bond and though I can see his point, I still enjoy the classic character - especially as interpreted by our most recent Bond, Daniel Craig.

Would You Want a Fourth Bourne Movie?

Recently, a rumor started circulating regarding a fourth installment of the Bourne franchise. Pulling a line from a Variety article about upcoming Universal Pictures projects, some people believed that the fourth movie was a done deal, but according to an Empire article, this is all news to director Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon.

Damon told Empire, "We’ve just kind of been amused by the whole thing. I think it’s one of these stories that has a life of it’s own. Not that we’re against it, we’re all for doing a fourth movie but it means coming up with a good story. There are a lot of things that would have to happen before we would sign up for it."

Do you think a fourth Bourne movie would be a good idea? Do you want more Bourne no matter what? Or should they leave well enough alone with the three movies?

The Bourne Ultimatum: Ultimately Awesome

From the breathless start to the wholly satisfying finish, The Bourne Ultimatum is, well, the ultimate action movie experience. Plenty of suspense, intrigue, and fight scenes that somehow make Matt Damon even sexier than ever all add up to the most exciting and tensely gripping movies of the summer.

From the instant The Bourne Ultimatum begins, the shaky camerawork makes the viewer feel rushed and frantic. Bourne is still running from the CIA, having been deemed a "serious threat until proven otherwise." For his part, Bourne thinks "someone started all this, and I'm going to find 'em." Thus, the cat-and-mouse game continues with Bourne trying to track down the person responsible for the way he is and the sketchy CIA guy Noah Vosen (David Strathairn) hot on his trail and taking down anyone who gets in his way. That's just a part of the tensely gripping plot, however, so

To help him get Bourne, Vosen strongarms Pamela Landey (Joan Allen) who awesomely turns out to be not just the brains and the beauty of the whole operation, but ultimately the heart and the guts, too. This is, in many ways, her story as well as Bourne's, which is very cool.

Watching the movie there is a sense of nothing being wasted and nothing being used extraneously - every edit a careful decision, every fight scene beautifully choreographed. Even when the point of view is not of one character spying on another, the camera angles are such that we always have this voyeuristic sense of seeing something maybe we shouldn't. It's this thoughtful direction that firmly and deftly places us inside this world of espionage, CIA-sanctioned murder and constant suspicion.

There is a blessed absence of unnecessary gore, zero sex scenes (save a flashback to Bourne making out with Marie), and no gigantic, masturbatory explosions. In this movie, less is more - way more. There's just a haggard man on a mission to find out the truth about his life, and a theater full of people cheering for their hero.

The Bourne Legacy Teaser: Jeremy Renner Takes Over For Matt Damon

Matt Damon may have exited the Bourne franchise, but his successor, Jeremy Renner, is primed and ready to go. In this brief teaser for The Bourne Legacy, we meet his character, Aaron Cross, an operative being prepped for Treadstone, the CIA program that turned Bourne into an elite government assassin. We shouldn't be surprised that there are more agents like Bourne, apparently, because as Edward Norton's character intones, "Jason Bourne was the tip of the iceberg."

As we see Cross being groomed, and then using his jaw-dropping skills in the field, I let go of my wistfulness for Damon, because Renner's new incarnation is such a badass. Plus, the fact that there are mainstays from the Bourne series here, like director Tony Gilroy and supporting cast members Joan Allen and David Strathairn, gives the new film some consistency, even if Damon isn't there. Though he'll always be the original, I can't wait to see what Renner brings to the table, because from the looks of the trailer, he's the right choice to play Damon's successor. Jeremy Renner Brings the Bourne Action Overseas With Edward Norton

Jeremy Renner reported to the set of The Bourne Legacy in the Philippines yesterday. He was joined by bodyguards and costar Edward Norton for a day of shooting at the Navotas Fish Port in Manila. Jeremy is taking over the lead role from Matt Damon, who starred in the first three films in the franchise. He won't be playing Matt's Jason Bourne, though, since he's being introduced as a new character named Aaron Cross. Jeremy's packing in a lot of action on the big screen lately after the 2011 release of Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol and he'll keep it up when The Avengers hits theaters in May followed by The Bourne Legacy this August.

Jason Bourne is about to get a new identity. Jeremy Renner has been offered the lead in The Bourne Legacy, the next movie in the Bourne franchise. It's the first film in which Matt Damon won't appear as Bourne, and director Tony Gilroy has been seeking a replacement for the star, which he has apparently found in Renner. Renner won't be playing Jason Bourne - his character will be someone distinct from the role Damon embodied.

Renner has been in high demand lately; the Oscar-nominated actor was tapped to star in MI:4 and replace Tom Cruise in the Mission Impossible franchise. He seems to be the go-to guy to take over for other stars, but does he have what it takes to be the new face of the Bourne movies?

I've already shed my tears over the fact that the next Jason Bourne film, The Bourne Legacy, won't star Matt Damon. But plans for the next movie continue, and though there are no plans to recast someone as Bourne (really, no one can replace Damon), a lot of names are now rumored to play the lead in Legacy. Plenty of hot actors are on the list, and some aren't surprising, while some are definitely more unexpected choices. But I'd love to hear your opinion - let me know who you think could follow in Damon's footsteps by voting on each of the men who might be in the next Bourne flick!
