Do You Think Brazilian Waxes Are Truly Popular?

Funny lady Janeane Garofalo has a new stand-up special out called If You Will, and in it she takes on the popularity of Brazilian waxes. In a recent interview, she said, "We've been conned into thinking it's desirable to have that waxing done and that people like it. I think it's a national myth that we have all gone along with for some reason."

But how many people are getting Brazilians, anyway? It's not like there's a hair census that reveals the trends of the nether regions. When it comes to depilation, I'm definitely a "to each her own" kind of girl. While some people wax or shave everything, plenty of others don't. So what do you think? Is Brazilian waxing really as popular as Janeane says?

Greg Behrendt Reveals: She Was Just Not That Into Me

He's Just Not That Into You became a bible of sorts for the single woman who didn't want to get blindsided by one more man who didn't call her back. Co-authored by Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo, it outlined the many things women tell themselves about dates that go nowhere, when really the answer may be. . .yeah, I won't repeat it.

The book that claimed it provided the "no-excuses truth to understanding guys" took some hits from critics who said that its premise - that women should just stifle their desires (to call first, to ask those men what's wrong, to express what they want) - adhered to an old-fashioned vision of womanhood. "Disguised as 'liberation,' " wrote one critic, in a typical slam, "the book espouses an astoundingly passive role for women in relationships: always the pursued, never the pursuer."

But in a standup routine Behrendt did in 2006, he revealed something interesting. Part of the reason he knew so much about men's excuses wasn't just because he was a man. "What I don't tell them," he says tantalizingly, about why he was the guy to write the book was that: "I'm also almost every girl in the book." Apparently, he once fell in love with standup comedian/actress Janeane Garofalo, whom he refers to as "the female Kurt Cobain of her generation." How did he express his love? Through mix tapes, late-night drunk dialing, and a general "I'm giving you something - now give it back to me" vibe which, not surprisingly, made her respond to him by "drifting away from [my] freakiness." This piece of information puts a refreshing spin on the seemingly gender-rigid ideas in the book that bugged critics. May I suggest something, Greg? TV Tonight: Janeane Garofalo on Greek

If you're a fan of Janeane Garofalo, tonight's your lucky night. Not only will the actress be continuing her duties on 24, but she'll also step into ABC Family's Greek for an episode. And with all due respect to Jack Bauer, I think I'm more excited about Greek.

Garofalo plays a women's studies professor whose class Casey takes in an attempt to get serious about her academic future. But things get a little more complicated when Casey asks for her advice on how to navigate the power dynamics of her personal relationships - a topic that hits all too close to home when Cappie shows up ready to try his own hand at discussing gender issues.

Janeane Garofalo Says Minorities in GOP Suffer Stockholm Syndrome - Overboard?

Comedian Janeane Garofalo came on Countdown With Keith Olbermann last night to play psychologist. Her subject was Rush Limbaugh and Republicans in general. Her prognosis for Rush? He's a narcissist who also struggles with self-loathing. Keith and Janeane also tried to figure out why Rush only has a 37 percent approval rating among women. She concluded that the type of woman that falls for Rush is exactly like Adolph Hitler's girlfriend. Ouch.

But perhaps, more irreverently, Janeane called out RNC chair Michael Steele as suffering from Stockholm syndrome. She said:

Michael Steele. Who's that black guy in the Republican party who suffers from Stockholm syndrome. Which means you try to curry favor with the oppressor. . . . Any female or person of color in the Republican party is struggling with Stockholm syndrome.

Janeane Garofalo to Spend a Day on "24"

Between its critical drubbing and its two production delays, "24" hasn't given me a whole lot of reasons to be optimistic this summer. But this piece of news has me reconsidering my doubts: Janeane Garofalo will be joining the cast to play a government agent investigating a crisis that strikes Jack's team. The news is the second major addition of the summer; last month, Cherry Jones was tapped to play the show's first female president.

Garofalo's last major TV appearance was on "The West Wing" in 2006. She also starred in a CBS pilot about lawyers, but the show wasn't picked up for the fall season. I bet it's going to be interesting for such an outspoken liberal to work for producers as seriously conservative as those on "24."

Between Garofalo and Mary Lynn Rajskub, I'd say "24" now has one of the best girl-geek quotients on TV. I don't think Garofalo can singlehandedly save "24," though; that will depend much more on the writers being able to bring a fresh plot line to the seventh season. What do you think?

I loved all the lists submitted for this week's recast, especially your picks for Roseanne and Darlene, one of my favorite mother-daughter combos on TV.
