Song of the Day: Arcade Fire, "Intervention"

Rarely has a record unified indie-rockers like the Arcade Fire's Funeral did when it was released in 2004. For months, you couldn't walk into a hipster party without hearing the Montreal band's sweeping orchestral rock, and even detractors had to admit the music was pretty darn different. Needless to say, the band's follow-up album, called Neon Bible and due in March or April, is one of the most hotly anticipated albums of 2007.

So the Arcade Fire has done something cool. The band is letting us hear a new track, "Intervention," by phone; just call 1-866-NEON-BIBLE ext. 7777 to listen. Or, thanks to You Ain't No Picasso, you can also hear it below. My take: While it's not a huge departure, it reminds me how much the Arcade Fire rule and makes me very excited for the new album.

TV Tonight: DJ AM's Gone Too Far

After the surprising death of DJ AM (Adam Goldstein), no one was sure what would happen to Gone Too Far, his MTV documentary about addiction. Would it be wrong to air it, since it was discovered that he was abusing drugs? Or is it a cautionary tale that could encourage others to seek treatment? Your feelings were mixed, although a small majority of you thought the network should continue on with the program. After receiving the blessing of his family, MTV finally premieres the eight-episode series tonight.

The show follows AM as he stages interventions with friends and relatives of young twenty-somethings using heroin and other drugs. It's a tough topic to cover - especially given the surrounding circumstances - but judging by the trailer, it looks like MTV handles it with the appropriate respect. The footage actually gave me a few goosebumps - it's eerie to see Goldstein helping others overcome the problems that led to his own demise.

Announcing the 2009 Emmy Winners!

Well, the Emmys are over, and we have our full list of winners. Were you guys surprised by this year's picks? (Check out all my Emmy polls here.) I thought the show started out pretty unexpectedly when underdogs Kristin Chenoweth and Toni Collete took home trophies, and there were a few other surprises along the way. Towards the end, though, the big wins seemed pretty predictable with Mad Men for drama, 30 Rock for comedy - no surprises there.

I had a lot of favorite moments of the night - more on those later - but mainly, I just enjoyed seeing Neil Patrick Harris as host. I loved everything from his opening to Dr. Horrible, and most of you thought his opening number was pretty great, too.
