Song of the Day: "Let It Rock" by Kevin Rudolf and Lil Wayne

I try to keep an eye on the iTunes store top songs list and I've noticed that a duet by Kevin Rudolf and Lil Wayne called "Let it Rock" has been hovering around the top 12. For those of you who aren't familiar, Rudolf is a producer/guitar player-turned-singer (for this single) who's credited on an array of pop songs, like Nelly Furtado's "Say It Right."

"Let It Rock" is super catchy and (almost) makes me feel like I should go for a run. It's exactly the kind of song that could have been the "can't get it out of my head" song of Summer 2008. I can also totally envision a Gossip Girl episode ending to this tune, with Blair leaving a club in slow-motion to the lyrics "Well, you'll get what's yours/ I got mine."

Get Carried Away by the First Sex and the City 2 Trailer!

Hope you're not sick of previewing 2010 movies yet, because this one's a biggie. Behold, your first look at the much anticipated sequel to the Sex and the City Movie. As expected, it's chock full of clichés: multiple "Carrie" word plays, glitter up the wazoo and of course, "Empire State of Mind" in the background. It still looks like good old cheesy girl fun though - until the camels arrive.

Apparently the girls' exotic desert getaway is a big part of the story, but it's gotta be more fun than Carrie's miseryfest in Mexico in the first movie, right? Overall the sequel definitely has a happier vibe; we see busy mom Charlotte, blissfully in love Carrie, and still-on-the-prowl Samantha. (Miranda's there too, but we don't learn much). Regardless, I'll be in line with all of the other stiletto-clad ladies come May 28. Will you?

My Guilty Pleasure: Real Housewives of New York City

I may or may not have done an in-seat happy dance when I heard that the promo for the third season of one of my favorite reality shows, Real Housewives of New York City, was here. The Manhattan-based installment of Bravo's franchise is neither the original (that's Orange County) nor the most outrageous (that's Jersey), but there's something about the cast of women - Jill, Bethenny, LuAnn, Ramona and Kelly - that has me addicted.

My addiction has forced me to keep up with the offscreen drama of the NYC ladies, and this new preview of the upcoming season is full of these revelations: LuAnn is now a divorcee on the prowl (and uh, behind the mic), Bethenny is pregnant and engaged, and some wives who shall remain nameless are just as crazypants as ever. If you're judging me for my lowbrow reality love, go ahead, but I dare you to watch this video from the coming episodes and not be entertained. To see it, just read more.

Sex and the City 2 Gets a Release Date

Get ready for some sexual healing . . . in about 13 months. The Sex and the City sequel has a release date, and it's the same slot that the first SATC had: May 28, 2010.

Many of you voted in favor of a SATC sequel last year, and when asked about your hopes and dreams for the second movie, you had a variety of suggestions ranging from wanting to see the women at work more to seeing Samantha in a strong relationship with a man her own age. The overall consensus was definitely no more Big drama and wishing that this sequel were actually a prequel.

Well, whatever it ends up being, it's now on the calendars and coming to theaters near all of us next May. Fabulous?

Would You Want a Sex and the City Sequel?

The stars of the Sex and the City movie were hinting at a sequel before the weekend but now that the film was such a smash success at the box office, the talk for another movie has reached a fever pitch.

Makes you wonder if Sarah Jessica Parker and Michael Patrick King are huddled together as we speak to brainstorm sequel ideas.

Are you on board for a sequel? Or was one movie enough? The ladies are officially middle-aged now, so what new themes would you hope they might tackle?

Full-Length Sex and the City Trailer!

It's here! The highly anticipated, full-length trailer for this Spring's Sex and the City movie has arrived.

There's Mr. Big and wedding talk, bawdy jokes as usual and an introduction to Carrie's personal assistant, played by Jennifer Hudson.

It's super cute as expected, though slightly sentimental-cheesy (the "Forgiveness" song?). Still, I'm just as excited as ever to see this movie when it opens May 30. You should definitely watch the trailer yourself, so read more.

Sex and the City: Sugary Sweet With a Sad Center

Despite the fact that I've never owned shoes in the $500+ range and have never been a single and fabulous 30-something (or 40-something) New Yorker, I related to and loved the characters on Sex and the City. Every week I could count on seeing four women who placed a high value on their female friendships rather than tearing each other down (ahem, The Hills), who fought bravely against those who would look down on them for being unmarried, and who talked candidly about not just sex, but everything. Amidst hardship, lapses in judgment, and insecurities, they were smart ladies who had the understanding that life - even for the truly sophisticated - is no fairytale.

Some of these cherished characteristics translated well to the big screen version and I'm so thankful for that. But I'm also a bit mystified by how far it strays at times from the very aspects I loved so much. I wish I could say that it's a witty and modern take on the meaning of love and friendship for middle-aged women (and women approaching middle-age). Instead, the film is at times a fun fantasy, but it's not the Sex and the City I remember.

The first third of the film has a lot of the good stuff from the series: it's irreverent, funny, absurd, intelligent, and full of sharp insights into marriage and being single in your 40s, all the while poking fun at its own universe. Then, slowly but surely, the movie veers into some strange territory and the women start taking themselves and their designer bags way too seriously, and everyone loses a normal dose of perspective.

Bravo to the writers for taking a risk with some genuinely dark moments (a necessity for a feature-length film, and this one is lengthy at over two hours) but even so (without giving away too many details, I promise you), nothing is so bad that any character should ever seriously utter the line, "Will I ever laugh again?" Even Miranda, who could always be counted on for some snappy, cynical retorts that zap her friends back to reality is morosely silent for most of the film. I really liked how strong Miranda was in the series, and in the movie it's like she isn't given enough words. It's so disappointing.

That said, you will probably laugh at some hilarious moments, and you might even cry. Your heart will likely race with the excitement of seeing all of these characters together again and will revel in the exhilarating fact that they're here, living their lives as if they'd never left us. But there are many moments where everything just feels forced and lackluster. Of course there's an emphasis on couture and living the high life in New York, which is sometimes glamorous but mostly just rings empty. We're not all "looking for labels and love," actually. We want to laugh, we want these ladies to give at least some kind of voice to our modern hopes and fears and we definitely do not want to be pandered to.

My bottom line: For each moment of applause and laughter at my screening, there was an equal amount of groaning and eye-rolling. It succeeds in that it's not a disaster and I'm glad I saw it. It fails in that it isn't really a movie, it's a season of SATC smooshed together, and compared to the other seasons, well, they've done a lot better.

What Are Your Hopes and Fears for the Sex and the City Movie?

You know I'm excited about the Sex and the City movie and I had a blast at our exclusive screening last night! But over the past few weeks I've been chatting with friends and coworkers about certain apprehensions we had about how the movie might turn out. The biggest qualm I heard was that people really liked the way Sex and the City wrapped up when it was on TV, and there was some fear that the movie's ending wouldn't be as satisfying.

I bet some of you are feeling similarly, so I thought I'd ask you what your best-case and worst-case scenarios are for the movie. What would you like to see happen? What do you fervently hope doesn't? And are any of you so nervous about the big-screen adaptation that you plan to stay away from it entirely? Sound off below.
