Two great tastes that taste great together. Remember Suzanne Vega's Tom's Diner? I was digging around for a fun I Dream of Jeannie clip and ran into this odd mashup: "I Dream of Jeannie's Diner." I particularly like when Major Nelson yells out "Jeannie!"

I Dream of Jeannie Film Adaptation Gets a Screenwriter

Screenwriter Rita Hsiao, writer of Disney's Mulan and rewriter of Enchanted and 13 Going on 30, has apparently written a screenplay about a new Jeannie for all of us to dream of. Her script for the big-screen adaptation of the 1960s series I Dream of Jeannie apparently wowed the producers, who had already seen five other attempts at Jeannie scripts.

Producer Sid Ganis has only glowing praise for Hsiao: "She has a terrific, bright, fresh approach to Jeannie's story, with a twist and turn along the way. She captured all of our imaginations in the telling of it."

This project has been rumbled about for years, but is only now getting serious attention. Ganis notes, "This is such a beloved and iconic character that it has to be told the right way. You have a loyalty to the character that has to exist, and sometimes it takes time to get there." Not to mention the fact that the new movie would probably need to be palatable to modern audiences, and I have to wonder how today's feminists might feel about this story following a woman who exists to serve her "master."

Anyway, I say sure, take your time. We don't want another Bewitched remake on our hands! Now, as for casting, I smell our next recast challenge coming on. . .

Announcing the 2012 Critics' Choice Nominations

Award season is officially around the corner, which means the nominations are coming in droves now. The Critics' Choice nominees feature some of the same contenders we've been expecting, like The Descendants and The Artist, but also has a few surprises. Namely, Martin Scorsese's Hugo has emerged as a force to be reckoned with, leading the pack with 11 nods.

Brad Pitt's got not one but two movies up for best picture, with Moneyball and The Tree of Life, not to mention a best actor nod for himself. The Help also cleaned up with eight nominations. On a personal note, we're excited to see some of our favorite 2012 comedies getting some recognition, like The Muppets, Horrible Bosses, and of course, Bridesmaids.

IACP Announces Cookbook Award Winners

The International Association of Culinary Professionals (IACP) are currently gathered in Austin, TX, for their annual weeklong conference. Last night, Dave Arnold, the director of technology for The French Culinary Institute and Chris Young, the co-author of Modernist Cuisine, hosted the 2011 Cookbook Awards Gala.
