Do You Think Maybe the He-Man Movie Might Not Suck?

The long-gestating live-action film version of beloved '80s cartoon series He-Man has found a director in Kung Fu Panda helmer John Stevenson. The He-Man movie - which also now has the title Masters of the Universe - will mark Stevenson's live-action directorial debut, and apparently he came on board for the project when he visited the Mattel headquarters and "was shown into a secret lair that contained the visuals created by the toymaker staff." According to him, "There was this locked bunker that you had to be escorted into. It was filled with art, some generated by the Mattel artists, and I looked around, and said, 'I get it.' We started formulating a specific vision for costumes, creatures, architecture, and the creation of a mythology and look for a whole world we'll create."

So, there's a vision of some sort here. . . right? Kinda? It might not be totally ridiculous and embarrassing? Personally, I think as long as they don't put a blond pageboy wig on Brendan Fraser and call it a day, I'll give this project the benefit of the doubt for now.

Still, I've said it before and I'll say it again: We've gotten Transformers and we're getting G.I. Joe and He-Man. Why is it all so much boy stuff? As long as we're on this ride, where is my Jem and the Holograms movie?

The great thing about He-Man, besides the animated bod, was the moral he had for every story. He ended every episode with an important message for the kids watching at home. Jerry Springer much? But He-Man did it with class - that is, with one finger pointed in an accusatory manner at the home viewers and the other hand on his hip. While wearing nothing but underwear. And a bobbed blond wig.

I recently brought you news that there will be a live-action film based on the 1980s cartoon series "He-Man." A while ago, rumors swirled that this movie was being made with Brad Pitt purportedly taking the lead role.

While I wouldn't object to that, I think there are other people who could also do the role justice, namely: The Rock, on whom I have a painful crush. Or perhaps Josh Holloway (Sawyer on "Lost")? I've brainstormed a few options for possible He-Men, so tell me who you could envision playing one of the Masters of the Universe.

He-Man to Be Live-Action Film, 300-Style

First Transformers. Then G.I. Joe. Now He-Man. Variety is reporting that "He-Man," another beloved '80s cartoon based on a toy line, will be turned into a live-action film, employing visual effects similar to those in 300. Here's more:

The franchise has been reimagined by the producer and the writers and pitched to Mattel as a classic good vs. evil battle, using the kind of visual effects strategy employed in "300." A warrior is touted as the last hope of a magical land called Eternia, which is being ravaged by technology and the evil Skeletor.

Many of the characters in the Middle Earth-like universe will be informed by the mythology created in the four different cartoon series done since the 1980s.

Now, don't get me wrong, I think this news is awesome. I loved these TV shows as an '80s kid and it's an interesting choice to go live-action in the vein of 300. However, Transformers, G.I. Joe and He-Man... but no "She-Ra" (on her own, outside of the He-Man movie)? No "Jem and the Holograms"?! Where are my '80s ladies? It's obnoxious that there's a Bratz movie but no movie based on "Jem and the Holograms." Any of you Buzz readers into screenwriting? It's time for a girls' '80s cartoon uprising! Who's with me?

Girls Now Have Equal Right to UK Throne!

The UK Commonwealth has agreed to change its laws to allow first-born girls equal rights to the throne. This come after Prime Minister David Cameron proposed the change, calling it "an anomaly that in the rules relating to the highest public officer we continue to enshrine male superiority." All 16 countries where the Queen is now head of state unanimously voted to amend the rule at a summit in Perth, Australia. They also lifted the ban on the monarch marrying a Catholic.

Since Queen Elizabeth has been ruling for almost 60 years, it's easy to forget that the former system favored a male monarch. The change overturns rules dating back 300 years, which held that a first-born daughter could only become queen if she had no younger brothers. That means if Prince William and Kate Middleton's first-born is a daughter, she will automatically be the presumed heir to the throne, no matter if she has younger brothers.

The prime minister reiterated that point, "put simply, if the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were to have a little girl, that girl would one day be our queen." And while the idea of a monarch might be pretty retro itself, Cameron said these changes will make it more in line with the times, "The idea that a younger son should become monarch instead of an elder daughter simply because he is a man, or that a future monarch can marry someone of any faith except a Catholic - this way of thinking is at odds with the modern countries that we have become."

It will be Gosling's first time behind the camera, and the film focuses on the life of music producer and promoter Bob Marucci.
