What's Buzzworthy: First Albums

Bookmarking all your old first albums for this week's Buzzworthy challenge seemed like it was a fun way to think back on those first few albums you chose as a hip kid (well, you probably thought you were super hip at the time!). It was often hilarious to peruse the titles you bookmarked, especially since I'd forgotten all about some of these musicians! Others (like The Backstreet Boys) continue to haunt us to this day with their "comebacks." Yeesh. Here are some of the albums that stood out to me, and after the jump you can check out a widget with all the albums that were bookmarked.

Debbie Gibson, Out of the Blue
firedancyr7's paragraph accompanying this Buzzworthy selection is hilariously familiar: "Imagine me as an 8 year old kid with a side pony-tail and HUGE earings that no 8 year old should be wearing with ripped calf length black tights under a hot pink ruffled skirt, two pairs of socks so the crazy colors on both could show AND my purple jellies that made me feel like I was wearing princess shoes. I would dance around the room singing 'Only In My Dreams' as if I had written the song itself. Don't you kind of miss that wholesome childhood pop?"

INXS, Kick
auroraforever clearly loved this album when she was younger. As she says, "I literally wore this tape out I played it so many times."

More great first albums if you read more

Grease
I'm pretty sure preteen girls still screech along to "Summer Nights" at junior high dances today. Sweet Tea says this about her bookmark: "The first album that I made my parents buy me...I wore out their first LP - I still know all of these songs by heart."

Counting Crows, August and Everything After
darkbeauty chose this album, saying, "I loved this album then and I still love it now."

U2, War
A woman of my own heart, Advah selected this title and writes, "I've been a massive U2 fan for over 14 years now, and I remember being incredibly proud when I managed to gather enough money to go and buy my very first album, which was War, to listen to on my very first stereo (which was actually my big brother's old stereo). I seriously love this album, it still sounds amazing, and I still get nostalgy goosebumps every time I listen to it!"

The Results Are In: Recast Grease!

Every Wednesday on BuzzSugar, I post a Recast challenge, where I ask you to choose new actors for a classic TV show or movie. The reader who submits the best cast wins a BuzzSugar t-shirt!

When recasting these iconic movies, it's so hard to find actors who could live up to the roles made classic by the original performers, but all of you who submitted lists did well to retain the spirit of Grease with your picks! I thought the much-suggested idea of putting Zooey Deschanel in the role of Rizzo was super fun. Christina Ricci would make an excellent Rizzo as well because, as CaterpillarGirl says of her idea, she is the bad girl.

I also loved a lot of the names put forth for Danny, like prbeachbum's James Franco, Wilmer Valderrama as suggested by alynn, and legaeagle's idea to use James Marsden. Finally, many of the ideas for Principal McGee were fantastic, and I especially liked roseannadanna's pick of Allison Janney, along with the ultimate musical dame Julie Andrews, as suggested by Atatakai Sunshine.

Every Wednesday on BuzzSugar, I post a Recast challenge, where I ask you to choose new actors for a classic TV show or movie. The reader who submits the best cast wins a BuzzSugar t-shirt!

This summer we have one beloved film-turned-musical-turned-remade-film, Hairspray, and recently heard news about another in the works: Footloose. Following along that theme (and using another of your suggestions), let's just say Grease were being remade and needed present-day actors (and let's face it, it's only a matter of time).

Who would you cast in those roles? You don't need to know if the actors can actually sing, just if they seem right for the roles. And please no reality show contestants from "You're the One That I Want"!

TV Tonight: "Grease: You're the One That I Want"

While that other singing reality show will be in auditions for a few more weeks, NBC's "Grease: You're the One That I Want" is trucking right along. This week, the top 50 contestants move on to Grease Academy, where they have to prove they're worthy of being among the top 12 potential Sandys and Dannys. Are any Buzz readers still watching? TV Preview: "Grease: You're the One That I Want"

NBC has been running near-constant promos for "Grease: You're the One That I Want," the reality show where America votes on who will play Sandy and Danny in an upcoming Broadway production of "Grease." The first episode, a special 90-minute version, airs tonight (Sunday) at 8 p.m., with Olivia Newton-John as a guest star.

I still can't decide whether it's going to be so bad it's good - or just bad. It could be all kinds of campy fun, or it could be just another ripoff of "American Idol." Check out the trailer and tell me what you think. Will you watch "Grease"?
