Song of the Day: M. Ward and Zooey Deschanel, "Get to the Border"

You probably know by now that I have a major girl-crush on Zooey Deschanel, and I'm also intensely smitten with M. Ward, the boyish yet poignant singer-songwriter whose Post-War was one of my top 20 albums of last year. So, I'm really have trouble containing my excitement about this duet between the singer and the actress I just discovered via The Music Slut.

Called "Get to the Border," the song will be featured in the upcoming indie film The Go-Getter, which stars Deschanel and features a cameo from Ward. You can hear the song on the movie's MySpace page. I think it's really good, and not just as a novelty item. What do you guys think?

The Wide World of Wings: Salsa Verde

Wings are a game day mainstay, but before you grab that bottle of Frank's RedHot, consider a version or two that journey beyond buffalo. This week, we tread the less-beaten path through wing-dom with a look at five recipes that shed new light on our favorite chicken part.

Today, our wings get a south of the border kick with tomatillo-based salsa verde. Taking a page from the popular Mexican dish chile verde, which tempers the bright tang of this tomato relative with smoky braised pork, I simmered the salsa in some chicken broth for some added flavor depth before thickening up the sauce. Serve the wings drizzled with the salsa verde, and for an over-the-top delight, topped with sour cream and crumbled cotija cheese.

Of course, don't shun the buffalo sauce entirely. For a spectacular game day spread, fry up a large batch of wings, serve them with a variety of sauces, and let your guests pick their favorites!

George Clooney and Stacy Keibler shared a hug yesterday in Cabo. The couple are off on a Mexican vacation with some of their best friends, including Cindy Crawford, Rande Gerber, and even Alex Rodriguez. ARod, who was just in Miami partying with Beyoncé Knowles, was seen enjoying the afternoon out in the sun with Stacy and an injured George. George and Stacy spent Thanksgiving together south of the border. She tweeted well-wishes to her followers, writing on the holiday, "Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving everyone. Let the holiday season begin!" The end of the year brings a new George movie to theaters. Reviews of The Descendants are great, and it seems likely George will get a belated present in early 2012 with an Oscar nomination for his leading role in Sideways director Alexander Payne's latest offering.

A Tale of Three Tortas: The $9 Nopalito Torta

We aren't the only ones who love Mexican sandwiches, or tortas; so does Between the Bread.

I've been on a serious torta kick lately, devouring the Mexican sandwiches everywhere from my neighborhood to the Mission to Mexico itself. To show my deep appreciation for this delicioso dish, allow me to tell this tale of three tortas, starting at San Francisco's bourgie yet authentic Mexican eatery Nopalito.

Like a Mexican hoagie or a burrito on bread, tortas take South of the Border flavors and sandwich them in a soft, toasted roll, such as a telera or bolillo. Nopalito stays pretty true to tradition with its housemade bun, which contains adobo-seasoned shredded pork, refried beans, jack cheese, and avocado.

George Clooney Gives a Big Hug to Stacy Keibler to Kick Off Their Cabo Vacation!

George Clooney gave his girlfriend Stacy Keibler a big hug Friday when she arrived in Mexico! The couple are south of the border with friends to enjoy a vacation together. George deserves a little rest and relaxation following his whirlwind press tour to support his latest film. George's Ides of March was well reviewed ahead of its opening on Friday, and it earned a respectable second place at the box office, just behind Hugh Jackman's Real Steel. Promoting the film brought George to film festivals in Venice and Toronto and to premieres in both LA and NYC. Stacy turned out for the Hollywood screening, but George was rolling solo when we chatted with him at last Wednesday's Big Apple event. Now George and Stacy are free to get shirtless or throw on a bikini to lounge by the pool. At this time last year, George was in Cabo with then-girlfriend Elisabetta Canalis. She's not mourning her relationship with George, though. Elisabetta Canalis is dating True Blood's Mehcad Brooks, apparently, and the two were seen on a date last week.

It seems like only yesterday that Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries were saying their I dos for the first time, but they're already giving it a second go. While we thought Khloe Kardashian's one-year-anniversary vow renewal bordered on a little soon, Kim one-ups her sister by saying I do again after a mere six weeks of being married to her basketball player. Although, as Ellen DeGeneres points out during the couple's vow renewal ceremony on her show, in reality-TV land a month is like a lifetime. While the couple's big day was an extravagant and lavish affair, Kim told Ellen that if she could do it all again she would elope. I don't know if I believe the spotlight-loving star would elope (at least without cameras around), but I know a lot of stressed-out brides who would gladly skip the big wedding for a romantic elopement. Nicole Richie and Joel Madden spent the afternoon with their kids in LA yesterday. Joel flexed his muscles carrying both Harlow and Sparrow around town and later handed off parenting duties to Nicole, who picked Harlow up from dance class. She's getting back into her daily routine after taking a girl's trip to Mexico to celebrate her 30th birthday over the weekend. Nicole Richie wore a bikini by the pool during the getaway and flaunted a fuller chest. Photos from south of the border started some rumors that Nicole got a boob job. Nicole hasn't spoken about the subject, but her pal Jennifer Meyer did joke about getting the name of her plastic surgeon on Twitter.
