Song of the Day: Aimee Mann, "Freeway"

We're inching closer to the June 3 release of Aimee Mann's next album @#%&! Smilers and I am positively salivating for it. We've already heard one song off the album, "Thirty One Today" and now there's a video of Mann playing another track, "Freeway" at Artists Den.

"Freeway" is pretty much exactly what I think of when I think of good, solid Aimee Mann songs. It's got some cynical lyrics set to a great, appealing melody which, in this case bounces right along in a way that's almost as catchy as "That's Just What You Are" (almost!). With regard to her upcoming album, it all seems to be so far, so good. To check out "Freeway" for yourself and tell me what you think,

In Darling Companion, Diane Keaton and Kevin Kline play husband and wife Beth and Joseph Winter, who go looking for their dog - and the strength in their relationship - in this heartfelt flick. Beth is far more concerned with her pooch Freeway than her workaholic husband, who is fully aware of where he stands in the pecking order and chooses to simply overlook it. That is, until he does the unthinkable and loses the dog. The film delves into the issues of their relationship as the entire community gets involved in the search for Beth's - you guessed it - darling companion.

The story certainly has a bit of a Marley & Me vibe, but it also has an awesome cast chock-full of talent, like Mad Men star Elisabeth Moss, along with one of our favorite guys these days, Mark Duplass. Ryan Reynolds didn't look too concerned about the state of LA traffic on Saturday afternoon when he hopped on his bike and headed out for a meeting in Beverly Hills. Closures to California's 405 Freeway, jokingly referred to as Carmageddon, kept many residents at home over the weekend, but that didn't stop Ryan from venturing out. It's back to the West Coast for the actor following Ryan's stay at home in Canada, where he visited with friends and family. He's gearing up for another promotional tour prior to the Aug. 5 release of The Change-Up. Ryan and his costar Jason Bateman already started making the rounds to hype the film begining with an appearance at last week's ESPY Awards.

5 Ways to Be Healthy During Your Commute

Don't walk or bike to work? Then you may think that your time spent on your commute is the least healthy part of your day. And while you may spend hours every day sitting, in your car or on the bus and then at your desk all day, you can still find ways to be active and healthy during your travel time.

Whether your trip to work is a short hop on the light rail or a start-and-stop ride down a congested freeway, you can use the empty time to sneak small healthy acts into your daily routine. Here are five things you can do to be healthy during your commute.

Do your exercises. Yes, you can work out those muscles during your commute without careening off the road or causing fellow passengers to stare. If you're driving, target and tone with steering wheel isometric exercises, ab work, or glute moves. If you're on the subway or bus, get creative with props like the strap hanger, your briefcase, or your bag to (discreetly) work different areas of your body.
Walk the distance. It may be convenient to have a bus stop right outside your apartment or a prime parking spot at work, but if you find that you're not moving as much as you want to, start building time into your commute to walk to the next nearest bus stop or to park further away.
