Matthew Broderick has had a long career, but many of us will always think of him as Ferris Bueller. Apparently, he's OK with that, because in this Honda commercial set to air during this weekend's Super Bowl, Broderick brings old Ferris back in "Matthew Broderick's Day Off." He's playing himself, but he's got all of the classic Bueller antics down, like playing hooky from work and goofing off all day to tool around in his Honda CR-V. Sure, the car stuff feels forced, but it's worth it to watch Broderick uttering some of the same classic lines from Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Watch now.

Everyone loves the '86 classic Ferris Bueller's Day Off for its comedic plot and script, but for design fiends, it's a favorite for its real-estate porn. The contemporary home of uptight character Cameron Frye, through which a vintage Ferrari famously plunged into the ravine below, is a 20th-century gem, designed by noted architects James Speyer and David Haid - and it's on the market.
The 5,300-square-foot, 4-bedroom, 4-bath home belonged to successful textile designer Ben Rose, and is listed at $2.3 million. It's composed of two steel and glass buildings, cantilevered over the ravine, giving it incredible views of the surrounding woods. John Hughes' work is so far-reaching, he is still making news today despite having quit directing in 1991. The L.A. Times recently ran a story in which some of the most popular directors and actors today point to movies like Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink, and The Breakfast Club as movies that made an impact on them as artists.

A ton of Hughes nostalgia has been popping up online lately, like this interview with Jon Cryer EW dug up in which he stated:

John had a real need to believe in teenage icons and create teenage iconography - that's what he was doing with Breakfast Club. I think he was really tortured in his high school, and [movies] were a way of him psychologically coming to terms with his youth and sort of reordering it in his mind as a storyteller. I think kids will always latch on to people saying, "Your experience is important. What you're going through right now is not trivial. We care about it, and we're right there with ya."

Judd Apatow (whose new film, Drillbit Taylor, is based on an old story idea by Hughes): "John Hughes wrote some of the great outsider characters of all time. It's pretty ridiculous to hear people talk about the movies we've been doing, with outrageous humor and sweetness all combined, as if they were an original idea. I mean, it was all there first in John Hughes' films. Whether it's Freaks and Geeks or Superbad, the whole idea of having outsiders as the lead characters, that all started with Hughes."
Kevin Smith (whose film Dogma features Shermer, Illinois, a mythical town that only exists in Hughes' films): "He's our generation's J.D. Salinger. He touched a generation and then the dude checked out. If it weren't for him, I wouldn't be doing what I do. Basically my stuff is just John Hughes films with four-letter words."

Bad Idea of the Week: Ferris Bueller's Day Off 2

What's almost worse than making remakes of beloved '80s films? Making sequels to beloved '80s films! Especially when it's a sequel to a John Hughes movie that might be made 21 years after the first one and probably won't be directed by Hughes himself.

That's right, folks, apparently screenwriter Rick Rapier has written the script for Ferris Bueller 2: Another Day Off in which Bueller, now 40 years old, has turned his motto "Life Moves Pretty Fast" into a self-help motivational career with his buddy Cameron managing the thriving business.

Rapier provided TampaBay.com blog, StuckInThe80s, with a copy of the script which they deemed "a blast." The blog is now claiming that fans of the original would love a sequel.

The plot is this: "Despite his phenomenal success, Ferris is a bit distracted on his 40th birthday (which, considering his massive fame, is being watched on pay-per-view TV by millions of devoted fans). He decides to take the day off, sending Cameron, his business associates and family into a frenzy." Rapier reportedly wants all the original actors to come back to reprise their roles, and has included each of them in the sequel's story:

Ferris' sister Jeannie (Jennifer Grey) is married to the boy she met in the police station (Charlie Sheen).
No longer a school administrator, [Principal] Rooney is still stalking Ferris for revenge.
The economics teacher played by Ben Stein now is an airline gate representative.
Ferris' girlfriend Sloane Peterson (Mia Sara) is a Hollywood star going through a rough marriage.

The Results Are In: Recast Ferris Bueller's Day Off

Every Wednesday on BuzzSugar, I post a Recast challenge, where I ask you to choose new actors for a classic TV show or movie and the winner gets a BuzzSugar t-shirt!

This week's movie was clearly a beloved favorite for many of you - and it looks like you had a lot of fun thinking of new actors for Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Of course, nobody will ever be able to replace the mischievous Matthew Broderick as Ferris Bueller, though I liked many of the choices, in particular the popular choice of Ryan Reynolds.

It was entertaining to see who you chose for the role of Ed Rooney - Pinkrabbit's pick of Will Arnett and hokku241's suggestion of Quentin Tarantino were among my favorites. Casting Jena Malone as Jeanie, as hollywoodholiday offered up, is another fun idea.

But the best cast overall came from sumbum, whose choices all seemed young enough to play high-schoolers, and Michael Cera would be ideal as Cameron! Congrats, sumbum!
