Justin Timberlake and Jesse Eisenberg Cast in Facebook Movie

Look for some new status updates: Justin Timberlake and Jesse Eisenberg have been cast in The Social Network as the founders of Facebook.

Eisenberg has taken the role of Mark Zuckerberg, after both Shia LaBeouf and Michael Cera were rumored for it (Geek totally called it, btw!) Justin Timberlake and Andrew Garfield will play the two other Facebook founders; Timberlake is taking on Sean Parker (also founder of Napster), and Garfield is playing Eduardo Saverin.

I think Eisenberg is an excellent choice to play Zuckerberg - he has the right resemblance and can play awkward authentically. Timberlake is kind of a surprise here, but the mix so far of inspired casting, Aaron Sorkin producing, and David Fincher directing is making this movie quite the interesting project.

David Fincher Might Direct Aaron Sorkin's Facebook Movie

The movie Aaron Sorkin is writing about Facebook looks to be getting even more bizarre: Word is Fight Club and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button director David Fincher is in talks to direct the movie. Can I assume the first rule is to not talk about Facebook?

Actually, I probably can assume that when it comes to this top-secret project, the script of which has supposedly been printed on red paper so it would be harder to photocopy. (Seriously!) This is the first big news about the project since last year, when Sorkin joined Facebook for the first time to get familiar with the site while he was working on the script.

In addition to Fincher's possible involvement, there's also news of a possible title for the project: The Social Network. All we know plot-wise thus far is that it will "focus on the evolution of Facebook from its 2004 creation on the Harvard campus by sophomore Mark Zuckerberg to a juggernaut with more than 200 million members."

Could Sorkin and Fincher turn this into a project worth watching - or does it just seem baffling to you? And does this mean it's high time to get David Fincher on Facebook?

Aaron Sorkin Joins Facebook to Write Facebook Movie

I find this movie news intriguing, baffling and preposterous all at the same time. Screenwriter Aaron Sorkin (you know, The West Wing, Charlie Wilson's War, the ill-fated Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, among others) wants to write a movie about Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. These are the things that strike me most about this news:

Sorkin had never used Facebook and just recently started an account and a group page for this movie because, he writes, "I figured a good first step in my preparation would be finding out what Facebook is, so I've started this page."
Sorkin is very open and receptive to comments and questions on his Facebook page, and the responses he's getting are starting to challenge what his previous perceptions of the Internet, and the Internet's effect on our society - in a positive way. "I have very strong feelings about the internet and its effect on our national culture, but frankly those feelings are being countered by the sophistication, kindness, curiosity and wit of the posts in this site," writes Sorkin. "You people are screwing me up with your civility and intelligence."
So, Sorkin had (apparently negative) preconceived notions about the Internet's effect on our culture and wanted to make a movie about Facebook - all without having actually used this major social networking site. . .which is on the Internet.
Finally, a whole movie about computer programming? Huh.

R.E.M. to Launch New Album Early - on Facebook

Want to make Michael Stipe your Facebook buddy? Now's the time! R.E.M.'s next album Accelerate will debut online one week ahead of its official release date - on social networking site iLike and any of the sites that use iLike's application, like Facebook. According to Billboard, the March 24 roll-out is "the first of its kind for a major act."

Stipe says he's just going with the new wave of how listeners find music which he says "has certainly changed in the last 5 or 10 years. I think you can either go with it or sit back and watch it happen, and I would rather be out on the field than in the bleachers."

I have to say, I am loving the first track we've heard off Accelerate, "Supernatural Superserious," and most of you seem to like it, too. Regardless of how much they embrace the digital age, R.E.M.'s still got it.

When It's Meredith Grey vs. Facebook, Meredith Wins

Is there a "Grey's Anatomy" effect on Facebook? Co-founder Dustin Moskovitz thinks so. The other day, he wrote that "150,000 Facebook users care more about Meredith than their friends," pointing out that traffic on the social networking site drops each Thursday around the time new episodes are airing on the East Coast. Moskovitz includes graphs of Facebook's traffic to prove it; to see the evidence, read more

I admit I don't really see the drop in the first graph, but it's pretty clear in the second one (at right). That graph shows little spikes of activity throughout the hour, which Moskovitz says are people logging in for a fix during commercial breaks. At the end of the hour, the traffic shoots back up again.

The effect apparently doesn't happen when "Grey's" is on in other time zones, maybe because East Coast users balance out the drop when they log back on. Regardless, it's funny to think that only "Grey's" can make us take a break from writing on each other's walls. Things should stay pretty steady tonight, though - "Grey's" is airing a repeat.

Who Should Be the Next Bachelorette?

Tonight is the season finale of The Bachelor, featuring Jake, the sensitive pilot who likes making out almost as much as he likes blatant metaphors. Will he choose Tenley, the "sweet" contestant? Or Vienna, her "spicy" other half? My bet is on the latter, but one thing's for sure: we'll probably hear the song "On the Wings of Love" at least forty trillion times.

I wish Jake and his lady success (and their own Jason and Molly fairy-tale wedding), but I also can't wait for this evening's after-show, After the Final Rose, when ABC will be announcing the new Bachelorette. Who should it be? Internet gossip is calling Ali the winner, and I have it on good authority from a source that Ali - who previously left Jake for her job at Facebook - just had her last day at the company on Friday. Coincidence? I think not.

Previous rumors have also suggested that Gia or Tenley could be the next woman in the hot seat. Tenley may still be in the running for Jake for now, but I would love to see her fill the Bachelorette's shoes. She seems sweet and deserving of a good guy at her choosing, but you just know that Gia would love to call the shots, too - something tells me her dates would involve mandatory high heels and cute outfits.

I'll be posting on the events that go down tonight, but before the formal announcement of The Bachelorette hits the airwaves, tell me - who would you like to see take the reins?
