Another of the many things I missed by not going to Comic-Con this year was a 5-minute preview screening of The Golden Compass. Thankfully, the clip is now online, and I'm so glad. There are flying witches, duty-bound polar bears, sassy daemons and Nicole Kidman acting more icy-cold than you've ever seen her.

After posting the gorgeous-looking trailer for The Golden Compass — which stars Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig and Eva Green, among others — I've been on the lookout for more news about the film. Now, HisDarkMaterials.org has posted a behind-the-scenes clip show from the making of The Golden Compass and it's pretty interesting.
Of course, it mostly consists of Eva Green swooping around on cables, while trying to act natural.

Based on the bestselling trilogy of His Dark Materials novels by Phillip Pullman, The Golden Compass is the fantastical story of Lyra (Dakota Blue Richards), a 12-year-old girl who, while rescuing her kidnapped friend, is drawn into a quest to save her world. A more detailed description of the movie on IMDB continues:
As Lyra is flung into the middle of [a] horrible struggle, she meets wondrous creatures both big and small, and villains who are not what they seem. Gobblers, that kidnap children, will turn out in the most unexpected places.

To be frank, I never truly got into the James Bond movies of yesteryear. To me, they were silly, predictable, and, in many ways, laughable. Sure, it's interesting to see a young, dashing Sean Connery, since I've always known him as a kindly old uncle type.

The 36th annual People's Choice Awards nominees are here, and last year's Twilight is leading the charge! American Idol's Kris Allen was among the announcers this morning for the nominees, which also include lots of nods for The Proposal — but of course, everyone's favorite bloodsucking love story landed in many categories, including favorite on-screen movie team.
Why didn't they look to 2009's New Moon?
