TV Tonight: MTV Monday

MTV Mondays are (sadly) becoming must-see TV for me again tonight, with the return of two of my favorite guilty pleasures: "My Super Sweet 16" and "Engaged & Underage." Neither is exactly classy television, but both are weirdly addictive.

I love the spectacle and the excess of the spoiled brats on "Sweet 16," and I both curse their indulgent parents and wonder what it would have been like to have my daddy make me a custom perfume when I turned 16. Besides, the show contributed to one of my favorite news stories of the past year: The father of participant Ariel is being sued in federal court by investors who weren't sure where he'd gone with their money - until he showed up on MTV.

"Engaged & Underage," on the other hand, was actually occasionally sweet in its first season. Sure, a few of the couples seemed wildly unprepared for marriage, but others honestly acted like they were in their relationships for life. And for a pure awkward-moment-per-hour ratio, it can't be beat; anyone else see the episode where the girl asked her future mother-in-law to give her a bikini wax?

Joining those two is the fourth - yes, fourth - season of "Making the Band." This time, Diddy will be at work making an all-male R&B group. Tell me: Will you be checking out any of MTV's Monday shows this summer?

Every Friday, I round up the week's best, funniest, strangest, and most embarrassing moments in television for your amusement.

Did you miss David Bowie on "Extras"? Fear not! Here are all his clips from the episode - including the "chubby little loser" song, of course.
On this week's episode of "Armed and Famous," La Toya Jackson went undercover as a prostitute. That pretty much makes fun of itself, doesn't it?
"This is not grieving. This is my legs being bent in ways my legs do not go." - Callie on "Grey's Anatomy"

On Desperate Housewives, Gaby learns that Zach has read up on her likes and dislikes and replies, "Aww... you did research on me? That's so sweet! In a ... stalker-y kind of way."

David from the premiere of "Engaged and Underage" is a virgin with a surplus of mommy issues (i.e., he tells his mom the details of the bed where he and wife-to-be Lauren will be spending their wedding night). On the night before the wedding, his mom warns Lauren: "I just want to let you know I'm going to be climbing into bed with him tonight." She then defends herself to the cameras by saying, "We're a close family. This is not weird." Um, yes. Yes it is.
On "The Knights of Prosperity," Rockefeller can get a job with the security agency that protects Mick Jagger's building if he can deliver a case with $150,000 to Atlantic City. Squatch, though, would rather just take the money and be done with it: "Twenty-five large in the hand is worth all the stuff in Mick Jagger's apartment in the bush."

"We're a little nervous that we get back and everything's dead. Well, not people or kids or animals. I'm thinking plants." - Lauri on "The Real Housewives of Orange County," on leaving her children in charge of the house.
"So I need a favor. And just for the record, it's not going to involve any kind of thank-you sex or make-up sex. In fact it's going to involve absolutely no sex whatsoever." - Tyra to Riggins on "Friday Night Lights"
"White Rapper Show" Lesson No. 204: If you've never done your own laundry, you are not ghetto. "If it wasn't for Shamrock," G-Child says, "I'd be turning everybody's whites pink."
OK, so this week's episode of "30 Rock" was a repeat, but indulge me with just one quote, would you? Jack Donaghy, on accepting a challenge:

TV Preview: "Engaged and Underage"

Following the horrifying success of "My Super Sweet Sixteen," MTV is premiering a new reality show focused on bratty young people planning lavish events - in this case, weddings. The weekly series, called "Engaged and Underage," follows young couples between the ages of 18 and 22 as they gear up for their nuptials. Meanwhile, the parents protest noisily, seeing as how most of them can't legally drink at their own receptions.

This sounds like it could be my new guilty pleasure. It has so many promising elements, including ultra-Christian virgins, misguided lust, and a scene where one groom and his mom discuss the paper-thin walls at the honeymoon locale. Who can resist? Glee-ful Highlights From Episode "The Spanish Teacher"

Glee goes Latin this week when guest star Ricky Martin stops by to shake it and teach Mr. Schue a thing about Spanish (which, despite being a Spanish teacher, he does not know). A couple more people find out about Finn and Rachel's engagement, though Mercedes and Sam are still far more unclear about their relationship. Sue also announces a highly frightening desire to be a mother while clawing at the chance to be a tenured teacher.

There are some fun numbers this week, but they couldn't distract from the fact that this episode is all over the place. A couple of the subplots are just plain ridiculous, but it's not totally without its highlights, so let's go over them after the jump.

Would You Watch MTV's Married Young?

MTV's 16 and Pregnant and Teen Mom attract tons of viewers, as well as criticism that they glorify teen pregnancy. For its next young-people-growing-up-fast docuseries, MTV is leaving the babies out. Starting after the honeymoon, Married Young will follow young couples in their first year of marriage.

If this all sounds familiar, that's because the network ran the series Engaged & Underage a few years ago. One woman married on that show commented on Married Young's Facebook page letting everyone know she's still married two years later, although she hasn't spoken to her mother since.

According to MTV, you're married "young" if you tie the knot before 26, which doesn't seem all that young to me. But considering more Americans are delaying marriage, this could be an insightful take on the pros and cons of participating in the institution of marriage at an earlier age. It could also delve into typical reality drama and mundane bickering. Would you tune in?

Are Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher Anti-Sex Trafficking PSAs Effective?

Real men know how to work the remote control (to open a beer), use an iron (for a grilled cheese, duh), and make a meal (pour milk directly into the cereal box). But real men don't buy girls. That's the simple message behind Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher's new anti-sex trafficking PSA campaign "Real Men Don't Buy Girls."

Trying to catch your attention with the viral style of Old Spice's Isaiah Mustafa, who actually stars in one of the ads, Demi and Ashton created a batch of PSAs featuring famous friends from Jamie Foxx to Justin Timberlake participating in clichéd "real men" activities. The spots make no reference to paying young girls for sex, until revealing the slogan at the end. The Facebook page for the campaign does mention some stats, like that the average age of entry into forced prostitution is 13 or that about 55 percent of girls living on the street in the US engage in commercial sex. When you visit the page, the videos adapt to you and Eva Longoria mentions you by name at the end.
