Emma Watson Relates to the "Crazy Circus" of Marilyn Monroe's Life

Emma Watson joined her My Week With Marilyn costar Eddie Redmayne on the red carpet last night for their London premiere. She took a break from studying at Oxford to head into the city for the big event, and was seen sharing an enthusiastic reunion with Eddie inside the Cineworld Haymarket theater. Emma was decked out in a Jason Wu top from his Spring 2012 collection, which she paired with Jimmy Choos and a Charlotte Olympia clutch. She plays an assistant in the movie, while Michelle Williams tackles the role of iconic Marilyn. However, Emma Watson related to Marilyn Monroe. She said yesterday evening, "I certainly feel a lot for her and for what she went through. . . . I think she was just trying to find her feet in the midst of this kind of crazy circus that went on around her, and trying to find some sort of balance and some sort of normality in her life, and I can definitely relate to that."

Eddie Redmayne promises to bring some British charisma in this month's My Week With Marilyn, and now the 29-year-old actor has picked up another leading role, Marius in the upcoming movie musical Les Miserables. Eddie is familiar to theater followers, as he won a 2010 Tony Award for his performance in Red. Or you may recognize him from his roles in Yellow Handkerchief and The Other Boleyn Girl. In addition to acting talent, Eddie has book smarts to back up his charm. He mingled with his classmate Prince William at the prestigious Eton College and went on to study art history at Cambridge, graduating in 2003. To top it off, he's modeled for Burberry. Michelle Williams Celebrates Her Marilyn With Costar Eddie and Good Friend Jake

Michelle Williams wore brand new Dior and shared the red carpet with her My Week With Marilyn costar Eddie Raymayne last night during their premiere at the New York Film Festival. The Marilyn Monroe biopic debuted at the Big Apple celebration and will be released in theaters on Nov. 4. Both Eddie and Michelle hit a Dior-sponsored party following the screening. At the bash, Michelle reunited with her good friend and former Brokeback Mountain costar Jake Gyllenhaal. The My Week With Marilyn reviews so far seem favorable, and there is a particular buzz about Michelle's portrayal of Ms. Monroe. If she scores an Oscar nomination in 2012, it will mean her second in as many years following her 2011 nod for Blue Valentine.

The Yellow Handkerchief: A Subtle Charmer

One advantage of the Twilight cast's overwhelming fame? That their smaller projects get the release and attention they normally wouldn't. This is the case for The Yellow Handkerchief, an independent drama starring Kristen Stewart, William Hurt, Maria Bello, and Eddie Redmayne.

Stewart has a big part as Martine, an insecure teen who impulsively takes off on the road with a stranger named Gordy (Eddie Redmayne), but the movie belongs to Hurt. He plays Brett, a recently released ex-con tortured by his past. Brett hitches a ride with Martine and Gordy toward Louisiana, and through a series of misadventures, the three of them become unlikely friends, unfurling Brett's history in the process. It's Hurt's acting and his character's story that make The Yellow Handkerchief a compelling character study while saving it from being a meandering mess. To hear why, just

read more. Stewart is at home as a beautiful outcast but she's out-acted at every turn by her costars. It's not that she's not working hard; it's just tough to dominate Hurt, who's such a quietly phenomenal actor. Redmayne is also impressive as Gordy, who's so socially awkward that he initially turns off his traveling companions. He manages to remain sympathetic to the audience, as does Brett, even when we don't know why he was imprisoned. Both men pull off characters who seem dangerous at first but slowly win you, and their onscreen conquests, over. The film's other powerhouse is Bello, as Brett's ex May. Her relationship with Brett emerges first in Brett's flashbacks, until Martine and Gordy become interested enough in Brett to have him recount the rest of the narrative. Incidentally, that becomes a frustrating storytelling device, since the Brett/May plot is the best part of the movie. You realize you wanted to be watching their affair all along, and the time spent with Martine and Gordy feels wasted. Though those two eventually form a sweet bond, the movie tries to force a parallel between the younger couple's relationship and Brett and May's, which doesn't work. The older couple's story is so much more powerful and real. Like I said, it's ultimately Hurt who keeps the movie from being just an eventful road trip. By the time the movie wraps itself up, you're so satisfied with the resolution that you forgive any missteps.

Tribeca Review: Savage Grace

As is the case with many movies, you can kinda tell how you'll feel about Savage Grace from how you feel watching the trailer. For me, I thought the trailer was tense, dark and disturbing. Julianne Moore looked powerfully off-kilter, exhibiting that magnificent control she utilizes with every role she takes on, but ultimately the trailer left me with a bleakly ominous feeling. Physically, it was like I'd swallowed cement.

The full movie left me with that feeling times a thousand. Julianne Moore's character is appalling in this story, and yet Moore makes us sympathize with her. But aside from that, this supremely messed up film is just hard to watch. Moore portrays the real-life American socialite Barbara Daly Baekeland whose hostile marriage with plastics heir Brooks (Stephen Dillane) Baekeland produced one son, Antony (Eddie Redmayne). After the dissolution of Barbara and Brooks' marriage, Antony became Barbara's closest friend and confidant. Barbara and Antony's relationship was really close, if you know what I mean. read more. Antony's upbringing was transient and often lonely as he moved from place to place, always living the high-class lifestyle of a young socialite. Worse, he often had to care for his mentally unstable mother, to the point of dressing her wrist wounds after she attempted suicide. Irritated by the fact that Antony was homosexual, Barbara desperately wished to make Antony "a real man" and this desire extended into an incestuous relationship, which is believed to be the thing that drove Antony to stab his mother with a kitchen knife in November of 1972, killing her. Though it's all very creepy, the only performance that truly packs a punch is Moore's, whose Barbara is both hateful and pitiable. Redmayne and Dillane seem to have latched onto the emptiness of these peoples' lives to the point that even their performances ring empty. This is the terribly sad telling of a real-life tragedy, and while it's often fascinating to delve into the inside worlds of the rich and famous, the inside of this particular story is merely full of ugliness and pain. Though interesting enough, the movie isn't artful or polished enough to make the incredibly bleak experience of watching it anything more than depressing. Source
