Jessica Simpson's gone country, y'all! As her debut country album careens toward a record store near you (check it out officially Sept. 9), we've heard some previews already - but now here's our first listen to Simpson's duet with Dolly Parton on the album's title track, "Do You Know?"

There is no question how deep my love for Dolly runs, and in my opinion, her small parts on this duet outshine Simpson's vocals by about a mile. And as Idolator points out, if you listen to the lyrics closely, you realize they're singing about some pretty sexy times to each other, so that's a strange visual. Anyway, let's put it to a vote!

When reflecting on all things American this 4th of July, I think of apple pie, representative democracy, Elvis, reality television, stuff like that. Of all the things I associate with this land of ours, few things strike me as uniquely American as country music, and whether you love it or loathe it, I bet you know a thing or two about it.

Some of the best musical artists we Americans get to claim came out of this genre, including Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, and Dolly Parton. So in honor of this grand country and some of music's greats, I challenge you to test your knowledge about country music!

Song of the Day: Ida, "The Pain of Loving You"

The indie band Ida recently premiered their cover version of Dolly Parton's "The Pain of Loving You," and it's lovely. The New York City band, which formed in 1992, has a sound that is evocative of Iron and Wine, or a calmer, more pared down Belle and Sebastian. It's a sound that works well for the Dolly cover which will be a part of their forthcoming EP, My Fair, My Dark. We've all heard Dolly Parton remakes before (most notably Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You" and The White Stripes' "Jolene") and often the artist tends to do something dramatically different. What's refreshing about the Ida cover is that it stays true to Dolly's bluegrass-y, folk sound. Buzz In: What Are Some of the Funniest/Worst Album Covers?

There's been a little dust-up on the Internet surrounding the new Weezer album cover (pictured above), as some bloggers assumed it was a joke because it looks . . . a bit weird. The band's publicist had to make an awkward statement to the contrary, saying, "Yes, that's absolutely the cover. It's what they chose. They looked at a bunch of mockups, and that's the one they decided to go with. It's not a joke."

I'm glad people actually care about this and that album art is not dead in the mp3 age. When done well, it adds to the overall effect of an album. When done poorly? Well, then it's either totally hilarious or just plain awful. Of course, this made me think of some of my favorite ludicrously bad album covers. Seriously, check out that Dolly Parton album art: Dolly's head is bubbling up from a pool as Dolly herself looks on.

And Blake. Poor Blake. What the heck was he thinking? Idolator once nominated his visually assaulting cover the worst of the year. As for Paula Abdul, I didn't remember her Spellbound art right away, but I took a wild stab in the dark that she'd have a ridiculous cover out there somewhere. Bingo!

Would You See 9 to 5 on Broadway?

The recent casting news about Allison Janney reminded me that Janney is also set to perform in the Broadway musical version of the 1980 movie 9 to 5, which starred Jane Fonda, Dolly Parton and Lily Tomlin. The stage musical will premiere in Los Angeles in September and then move on to New York.

I gotta say, I'm pretty excited to see this show! I love the movie, and I can see it becoming a really fun musical. What about you? Do you think this will be a great movie-to-Broadway musical adaptation? Or will it just be silly?

Rewind: This Week's Buzz

Hmm. . . let's see, Magnum P.I. works when he feels like it, doesn't wear a lot of clothes, and is really tan. Yep! I'd say Matthew McConaughey could probably handle a role like that. What do you think?
The week started out with one bad idea - the rumor about Madonna remaking Casablanca - and ended with another: the remake of Short Circuit. Thankfully there were some good ideas sandwiched in there like the re-pairing of Steve Martin and Diane Keaton!
Kristen Bell could be a busy bee soon with another TV series possibly in the works. And, of course, Elle is probably returning to Heroes.
More exciting TV news this week: the big reveal of NBC's fall plans - including a spin-off of The Office. I break down what all of this news means for you and give you the lowdown on stand-alone webisodes they're working on as well.
In reading news: there were some strong reactions to that little Oprah book club sticker, I discussed the first section of The Light Before Her Eyes, and some of you confirmed that Blindness (coming in October, to a theater near you) is a tough, but worthwhile read.
Ian McShane is set to play a biblical king on a new NBC show. Meanwhile, American Idol got a little Bible love, too, from the one and only Dolly Parton with her show-stopping performance of "Jesus & Gravity" on elimination night.
When the second Juno soundtrack comes out will you buy the CD, or just put it on your iPod?
The new Hellboy 2 trailer looks so good and so frightening! Which reminds me: I need your help describing the creepy shadow approaching Jena Malone in this week's Caption It!

What new actors would you cast in Reality Bites in this day and age?

Music Video: Dolly Parton, "Better Get to Livin'" (With Amy Sedaris!)

This is officially the most sunshiney moment of my day! Not only is Dolly Parton's video for her song "Better Get to Livin'" funny, adorable and full of fantastic outfits, but it features the hilarious Amy Sedaris as the circus lady telling the sad masses to "step right up!" This character also appears to be Dolly's friend. Who would have thought to put these two gals together?

While the unrelentingly Pollyanna-ish message of the song is slightly grating, I can't ever be truly annoyed with Dolly. She's just tryin' to spread a lil' joy! And Amy Sedaris is so cute all the time. I also like the old-timey movie and circus aspects to the video's story. It's all so entertaining and full of Dolly's particular brand of good cheer.

According to the AP, the stage version of Dolly Parton's 1980 movie 9 to 5 will premiere next fall in Los Angeles.
Kelly Clarkson and Reba McEntire will hit the road together this winter, writes Billboard, stopping in 15 cities along the way.
Kevin Smith has rounded up funny folks Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks for his movie Zack and Miri Make a Porno, Reuters reports.
Brief strike update: The Wall Street Journal reports that Lost producer Carlton Cuse has returned to work (though he's not writing), while Variety says late-night hosts may return soon without their writers.
Jamie Foxx has signed a two-year production agreement with MTV and VH1, writes Variety.
TV Guide has updates on some NBC schedule changes, including a temporary time slot for Life and the end of Bionic Woman repeats on Sci Fi.
Hey, Trading Spaces fans: Perky host Paige Davis is returning to the show starting in January, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Variety reports that John C. Reilly will play the lead vampire in the movie version of the children's series Cirque du Freak.
