Sci-Fi Meet Reality: One Sonic Screwdriver Coming Up

First there's news of a real-life Star Trek Tricorder, and now our science fiction fantasies continue to become reality with word that scientists in Scotland have created their own version of Doctor Who's sonic screwdriver, the device he uses to scan alien beings to check their universal origins and get out of his infamously sticky situations.

Researchers from Dundee University created a machine that uses an ultrasound transmitter to rotate an object rather than just push it, similar in theory to how the Doctor's screwdriver uses sonic waves to manipulate objects. Scientists have long believed ultrasound beams could be used to lift an object but just had to find a way to bring the physics theory to life. The abilities to twist the waves used in medical ultrasound activities could make the science more effective, changing the course of surgical procedures.

The scientists hope the new discoveries in ultrasound beams will be used towards noninvasive ultrasound surgery and manipulation of cells; while Doctor Who fans like myself just want to one day pick up a sonic screwdriver at a store and move along with saving the universe.

Eggsterminate Hard-Boiled Leftovers Like a Dalek

Decorating Darth Vader and Where's Waldo eggs includes one big, happy consequence: hard-boiled eggs for every meal, for the rest of the week. Make mealtime that much more incredibly edible by bringing the universe's most fearsome cyborg to the table with a Dalek-shaped eggsterminator egg cup ($8).

For perfect toast dipping, you'll actually need to place a soft-boiled egg in the Dalek. Who knows, maybe you'll even do the Doctor a favor and fry the Dalek into extermination with delicious savory overload.

Happy Fish Fingers and Custard Day, Whovians!

It's a momentous day in the Doctor Who universe! BBC has officially decreed April 3 Fish Fingers and Custard Day in commemoration of the Eleventh Doctor's debut episode, "The Eleventh Hour," which was two years ago today. This is when we first met Matt Smith's dapperly dressed Doctor and were introduced to his human companion as child Amelia, who in the present/future is cheeky Amy Pond. As exciting as it is to witness the Doctor save humanity from destruction yet again, it's his attempt to find Time Lord-friendly nosh with little Amelia that makes the episode one for the TARDIS history books.

Get in on the celebration by adding a video response to YouTube of you eating the questionable treat. Matt Smith claims the concoction is a "dream come true in a bowl," but we think that's a clever ruse to get us to try the suspicious dish since the "fish sticks" used during filming were actually breaded coconut pieces.

If a frozen fish reality is too much to bear, try Bakingdom's fish fingers and custard recipe - which is all sweet treats, no fish involved.

Scenes From the First Ever Doctor Who Convention

It's a wrap on the inaugural Doctor Who Convention in Cardiff, Wales this past weekend. Saturday and Sunday saw 1,500 fans each day dressed in their Whovian finest to attend star Q&A sessions, special effects panels, autograph sessions, and view a sneak preview of the Series Seven trailer. We hear Matt Smith even handed fans the Doctor's favorite snack, Jammie Dodgers! A lucky few even stepped foot on to the TARDIS itself during tours of the BBC show's set.

Since not many of us could make it to Wales for the excitement, view pictures from the fandemonium in the slideshow.
