Deal or No Deal: First Date Dilemmas

New year, new love! But before we jump into a rewarding relationship, we have to get through the first date, which always has the potential for disaster. Some of us might be more forgiving of first-date faux pas, and of course one person's deal breaker might be another's deal maker. I've rounded up 10 common situations that might sour you on a potential lover and I want you to tell me: would these things prevent you from going on a second date? Vote "deal" if the dilemma wouldn't be a factor and "no deal" if you'd decline another date.

The big clue: Her sister is a model holding one of the suitcases in the line-up. Hmm. One would think Lauren here would carefully inspect her options and take notice of her sister, but - no deal. The Highlight Reel, 12/29: The Week's Best and Worst TV

Every Friday, I round up the week's best, funniest, strangest, and most embarrassing moments in television for your amusement. It was slim pickings over the holidays this week, but I still found a few priceless bits to share.

Thanks to the year-end "clipdown" episode of E!'s "The Soup" for reminding me to revisit this too-funny moment from "Dancing with the Stars," in which Joey Lawrence ... um, I'm not sure there are really words for what he does. I'll borrow from one of the judges, who called it "George Michael meets the Village People on a cruise to Brazil."
OK, I admit it: I turned on the yule log in HD for a while on Christmas Eve. Here's the thing: Logs are really ugly in high definition.

Colie, the self-described "kissing slut" on "The Real World: Denver," learns she has mono. After her doctor asks how close people in the house get (wink, nudge), Colie says: "Theoretically speaking, everyone in the house could come down with mono in a month."

A truly bizarre incident from the Christmas episode of "Deal or No Deal": Big Bird randomly appeared and sneaked up on contestant Lamar Wilson - who is, I should emphasize, a grown man. Wilson ran away, obviously not amused, but returned to face down the yellow puppet who clearly reminded him of some really traumatic childhood experience. Nobody else - not the audience, not host Howie Mandel - seemed to think this was the slightest bit strange.
You know the John Mellencamp song "Our Country" from those ubiquitous Chevy ads that are supposed to make us proud of America by juxtaposing weird images of puppies and war? Apparently Mellencamp's label is worried the ads have overexposed the song, thus dooming his new album. I still say that's nothing compared to the sheer annoyance the inescapable ad campaign has inflicted on TV-watchers everywhere.

The Office, "Special Project": Best Lines of The Night

In this week's episode of The Office, Dwight has been chosen to spearhead a three-week assignment in Tallahassee. He's putting together "a competent team" that will assist him on the mission, setting up a number of new Sabre locations. Half the episode deals with various relationship issues, and the rest is essentially an audition for the team that will head to Florida. There are some important plot points revealed: Val and Darryl vaguely express their feelings for each other, and Erin tells us she wants to head to Florida for good. While "Special Project" definitely has potential, this week just kind of landed flat for me.

Regardless, there are a few funny moments that stood out in my mind. To read a few of my fave lines from "Special Project," just keep reading.

Miranda Kerr Puts Away Her Bikini For a Shopping Trip With Flynn

Miranda Kerr shopped in Sydney yesterday with her son Flynn Bloom. The duo stopped by a UPS store before hopping back into their car and heading home. Miranda, Flynn, and Orlando Bloom are in Miranda's native Australia visiting with friends and family. Miranda Kerr wore a bikini earlier this week for a particularly fun afternoon of drinking champagne and catching up with pals. Orlando was shirtless for the occasion, and the whole group of adults doted on adorable Flynn. Miranda has fit some work into her latest getaway Down Under. She's tweeted up a storm on behalf of her deal with Samsung Mobile, and attended the first-ever AACTA Awards as an ambassador from the David Jones department store.

"We Had Drunk Sex and I Feel Awful"

I had been "seeing" this guy for about three months, when it appeared to me that he really wasn't that interested in me anymore. He would always say that I worry too much but eventually admitted that "He didn't want to be in a serious relationship, but enjoyed my company and still wanted to be friends." I stupidly agreed b/c I really liked him.

Through the time we had been seeing each other, we fooled around but never actually slept together. I had told him that I didn't want to have sex unless we were committed and since he couldn't commit, we didn't let it get that far. Well...being the idiot that I am, I decided to hang out with him one weekend and go out to have drinks. He invited me to stay the night since he didn't want me driving home intoxicated, and I agreed. The deal was we'd sleep in different rooms.

Long story short . . . I drank wayyyy too much. I didn't even realize I was so drunk until the morning. I had blacked out, and woke up to find that we had sex. I apparently came on to him, very aggressively and wouldn't take no for an answer. He told me he resisted a couple of times and told me things weren't like that anymore, but I kept pushing. He also said that I was acting completely out of character and that I usually freak out about things like that, but that I was all for it. So he agreed to it.

I don't remember any of it.

Needless to say, he says he had a great time and doesn't regret it and asked that I don't regret it either. I agreed, but told him afterward that being just friends sucks for me. He says he knows, but it's all he can give me.

I feel sooooo embarrassed and ashamed for doing this. I tried so hard not to sleep with him and I suddenly get drunk one night and am all for it!? He tried contacting me a couple of days ago, but I didn't respond. Idk if I should speak to him again. I'm hurt that I let myself get into this situation and also that he agreed to sex when he knew I was acting differently. I know it takes two to tango, but I never wanted it to be this way. Now I just feel hurt, and awkward. He says everything is cool and he's not upset about it, but I feel terrible. I don't like casual sex like that . . . especially with him. I feel cheap.

What do I do? Just move on, ignore him, and forget about the whole thing or talk to him about it? Being just friends is too hard, especially when this just happened. I really like the guy, I just can't believe I let it get that far, especially when I knew he didn't want anything more than friends.

What Is Twig Tea, Anyway?

Alicia Silverstone claims that twig tea, also called kukicha, cures just about everything. And we've been noticing it appearing in more and more stores (we also saw it a few times at the Fancy Food Show). But what's the deal with all of the hype?

Twig tea is essentially a Japanese blend of the tough stems, stalks, and twigs from the Camellia sinensis plant. These bits usually get discarded, but when they're saved, toasted, and steeped in water, kukicha is formed. The flavor is nutty and slightly creamy, and since most of the caffeine is stored in the leaves of the plant, you won't get the same buzz from a cup of this stuff as you would a cup of green or black tea, so this is a great option for anyone trying to eliminate caffeine from his or her life. Its alkalizing properties and low caffeine level also make it a beverage of choice for the macrobiotic diet.

Kukicha tastes deliciously rich and toasted, which is the perfect way to start your day (in fact, there is a quality about it that reminds me of a good cup of coffee). Steep your twig tea in freshly boiled water for four to five minutes. Have you ever tried it?
