Emma Watson Heads to LA to Celebrate a Blinging New Role

Emma Watson kept her shades on last night when she left LAX and headed to her car. The UK-based actress is out on the West Coast for a visit during a break from her studies at Oxford University, where she's spending the school year during a hiatus from her regular studies at Rhode Island's Brown University. Despite the school work, Emma's still lining up big-screen roles. Emma Watson will star in The Bling Ring, a new picture from Sofia Coppola about a Hollywood gang who rob celebrities. Emma's also got Your Voice in My Head lined up, which will be a reunion for her and her Harry Potter director David Yates.

Harry Potter's James and Oliver Phelps Talk Playing the Weasley Twins and Reveal Their Favorite Potter Scene

The Harry Potter films may have come to an end, but the legacy certainly lives on - and the stars of the franchise are still celebrating. The cast headed to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Florida over the weekend to commemorate the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 on DVD, which is in stores now. I caught up with James and Oliver Phelps, who play the mischievous twins, Fred and George Weasley in the series. The brothers shared some of their favorite scenes and fan moments, and revealed one very strange prop that they swiped from the set.

BuzzSugar: Now that the last movie is coming out on DVD, does it feel like Harry Potter is really over?
Oliver Phelps: Not really, no. There's always something else that's happening with Potter. There's this one, then there's the Warner Brothers studio London tour where you can go see the sets and everything, which opens at the end of March. And there will probably be other stuff.

Buzz: What do you miss the most about making the movies, and what do you miss the least?
OP: Miss the least is getting my eyebrows bleached, definitely. But miss the most? I think just the regularity of it. You knew where you were going to be, for a couple of months a year filming Potter, and knowing that that was coming up. [Not having that] takes some getting used to.

JP: What I miss the most is hanging out on someone else's credit card [Laughs]. We are all good friends, so it was just hanging out with your mates. So I'll miss that, but we still keep in contact. What I'll miss least? Maybe the traveling. I'm not a big fan of the traveling. People ask, "If there's one spell you could take, what would it be?" A port key, definitely. Because then I could easily be back in England, and that kind of thing.

Buzz: How surreal was it to film the scene in the final movie where Fred dies?
OP: It wasn't nice. It wasn't nice at all, because one thing we do with [director] David Yates is try to get into the moment, try to relate to something. Which I did, and it came over really well, I think, on camera. But it was weird, not only seeing your pretend brother in the film, but your actual brother, all pale and stiff. I'm glad we didn't have to do that too often.

Buzz: Would you say it was easier to do the scene with your real brother?
OP: It made it easier to do, but probably harder as well to keep it together.

Buzz: Did you get to keep any props from the set?
OP: I wish we did, I really wish we did. I'd love to take the wand, because each wand is individual. They're very strict on having that back, but that would have been great if we were able to keep those. I don't know what I'd do with it. I'd probably put it in a case, put it on my wall or something, but it would be nice to have that piece. I did keep the prosthetic ear, because George loses his ear, which looks really odd. It's at the back of my script. When you open my script, it's stuck there, which looks pretty disgusting.

Buzz: What was it like following the trajectory of your characters from pranksters to young men?
JP: It was cool because normally when you do a film, the emotion of the character is the same all the way through. But what's the joy of playing [Fred and George] is that you can show they're predominantly pranksters, they love to have a laugh, then you see that they're entrepreneurs, and then you see they've actually got a softer side as well, like in Deathly Hallows Part 1 when George has his ear blown off, you see the softer side of Fred. We were able to take the characters from one extreme to another, yet still be in the same character, and everyone is still able to understand them.

Buzz: What lessons did you learn as actors making these films?
OP: It was certainly a learning curve along the way. We learned so many things like, acting-wise, just watching all the older guys in the cast do their thing, and you can pick up so many tips. The best is that you can go and talk to them about it, which is absolutely great to be able to do.

Buzz: What's your favorite scene that you guys were in?
JP: For me, it would be the Marauder's Map scene in The Prisoner of Azkaban. Because that's like the first time you see Fred and George, as like, you always know they're pranksters or whatever, but they actually have stuff of importance they're willing to pass on. But on a personal level, our grandfather read the book, and said to us, "This will be good. You've got to get that scene, get that scene and you'll be sorted." So that was kind of it, but unfortunately he passed away a couple of weeks before we shot it. But on an emotional side, that means so much to me because it was him who came up with the idea initially of cutting each other up, and it became our trademark all the way through.

Buzz: Is the fan mania bigger here in the states, or overseas?
James Phelps: It's big everywhere we go, which is quite a special thing. I guess it's just the cultures in general, and how different cultures are different. In the Far East, for example, they'll cheer and everything, but as soon as you wave, everyone stops talking and just waves back. Over here, you can kind of work them into a bit of frenzy. I'm not flogging my ego or anything, they're just very passionate about it.

Buzz: Can you tell me about one of your craziest fan moments?
OP: When we were in London, people were crying and everything. They saw it as the end of their childhood. But I think when it all comes to a head, it's over for them as an audience, really. There's no more new premieres and stuff. That was quite emotional for a lot of people.

Buzz: Do you guys want to continue working together or are you ready to go your separate ways, career-wise?
OP: Both. Originally, we were going to do something totally different from each other, but listening to the older guys, they said, "No, you should use that. You've got something different from the competition. If you have anything different from the competition, then use that."
JP: It would be good to work apart for a little bit, because we'll probably kill each other if we keep doing this [Laughs].

Harry Potter's Rupert Grint Shares His Red-Headed Role Models

Rupert Grint has been busy over the last few weeks doing press for the final Harry Potter film ahead of its release Friday. He spent the weekend at the junket for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, which came just before Monday's NYC premiere of Harry Potter. So far, the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 reviews look great. Rupert spoke about the experience of making the final film, and also revealed some fun personal information like who his red-haired role models are and just why he bought an ice cream truck. Rupert said:

On his favorite red-headed role model: "I get a lot of kind of people from the ginger community shake my hand. I’ve always been a proud ginger. I don’t know about in America but in England it’s not the coolest thing really having ginger hair, get quite an unfair hassle. It's nice Ron is quite a respected ginger guy and Prince Harry as well is pretty cool."
On getting any secrets on Ron's back story from J.K. Rowling: "Not really. Whenever J.K. Rowling came to the set and we were kind of chatting, we rarely ever spoke about the books or the stories, just kind of general chat, but I remember she did tell fill us in on the epilogue, kind of where the characters go, what they do for a living, I think she had kind of written the rest of their lives really, so that was quite interesting to hear what we all became. I think Ron, I worked in the Ministry doing something and I forget what everyone else was doing. . . it was cool."
On the scene in which he kisses Emma Watson: "It was a tricky one to do, I think. I’ve known Emma so long we mutually both were dreading this scene, slightly. It was a moment that was not in the book obviously, sort of something [producers] David [Yates] and Steve [Kloves] came up with. Yeah, it was a challenge to make it believable, the romance of it, cause like you said it’s been built up for so many years now and we wanted people to think we actually wanted to kiss each other 'cause in reality we really didn’t. Yeah, it was fine. It was a nice moment and, hopefully, people believe it."
On how many takes it took to get the kissing scene down: "We did about four takes. I find it hard to recall, remember anything about it, it's kind of been erased from my mind. Yeah, we had a laugh about it, it was fine."

On buying an ice cream truck: "The ice cream truck was something I’ve always wanted. It was kind of a childhood dream. That’s what I wanted to be, an ice cream man. So as soon as I passed my driving test I bought an ice cream van."
On his feelings at the end: "I did get a little bit choked up at the end. There’s this one scene where it’s the three of us after the battle and were walking on the bridge and the castle is destroyed behind us and it’s almost kind of a parallel moment with our lives really, it's over for us as well. It’s quite sad and I’m gonna really miss it."
On getting recognized: "Took me a while to kind of adjust to it. I was always kind of a shy kid and then came this sudden attention. Never being invisible completely, it’s something you kind of take for granted I think. I remember it was in a shopping center near where I live, it was like a school, and the film had just come out. It was really weird. I enjoyed it. It was quite cool really. It’s something I’ve never really quite hid from. It’s just apart of it. It’s a bit strange."
On wearing aging makeup in the epilogue: "First attempt, my character particularly was quite terrifying. The image still haunts me. I looked like a kind of monster really, a Donald Trump mixture, it was really weird, no hair, I was obese. I think it was a bit too much. I think they found the balance in the final version. It was a very strange thing to film really. Sitting in a makeup chair watching yourself gradually age. It was quite terrifying."
On how he's similar to Ron: "I have always felt this quite close connection to Ron even before the films. After ten years playing the same guy kind of everyday I think you do kind of naturally morph into them. We’ve become this kind of Ron-pert thing, which I think will stay with me for a while. I think they’ll always be a bit of Ron in me for the rest of my life."

Tom Felton Shares His Most Embarrassing Harry Potter Moment

Tom Felton is at the tail end of promotion for the final installment of the Harry Potter franchise. He was in the States last night for the NYC premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, and Tom also appeared at Sunday's press conference. Tom spoke about portraying a bad guy like Draco Malfoy, as well as his most embarrassing moment on set. He also mentioned what it was like to work with his real-life girlfriend, Jade Gordon. Tom said:

On young fans being afraid of him due to Draco: "Needless to say, we had hundreds of minors and adults having tours every day around the Harry Potter set and naturally no seven or unders wanted to have anything to do with me, which at first is a little worrying. They always get really excited when they meet Daniel, Rupert, and Emma, obviously, and then they suddenly hide behind their parents' legs when it comes to me. I probably lay it on too thick, I'm like ultra friendly like 'Hi! Nice to see you guys!' And they're really like, 'Oh my God, this is weird.'"
On embarrassing moments on set: "There's a handful. Where do I start? I guess the most embarrassing thing for an actor when you're surrounded by other actors that you look up to is just cocking up your lines. There was one time that I did it very noticeably, I forget which film it even is now, I think the third film, possibly the second one, there was a nice closing line for Draco out towards the end of it. I couldn't get it out for love nor money. I don't know what it was, sometimes you over rehearse or I'm not sure what it was but I couldn't do it and I actually started crying. I was only about 13, 14 and I was like, 'I'm so sorry, so sorry I can't do it.' Chris Columbus, the director, was very, very - he's the ultimate director with kids - he really knows how to talk to them and he was like 'It's fine, it's fine. We got it. It's in the can, it's gonna be in the movie.' They cut it out of the film. It was never in the movie. I learned very quickly from that: don't mess up your lines."
On playing anyone other than Draco: "I didn't read the book, I didn't have a clue who Harry, Ron, or Draco was, so I was a bit clueless to be honest with you. I thought I would have made a great Hagrid but they never saw it, I don't know what it was. Not really, I've had so much fun with the Malfoy family really, the only part I could possibly consider would be my dad in 20 years for the remake or something like that. Yeah, I really couldn't see, not only could I not see myself in another character's shoes, the actors in which they did get for Harry, Ron, and all the rest of them were remarkable and I certainly couldn't have scratched their performance at all."
On his reaction to aging in the epilogue of the book and movie: "Shocking! I mean come on, 19 years and they're basing me on Jason Isaacs [who plays Lucius Malfoy]. I look like his dad! It was ridiculous. No it was fun, it was a lot of fun. It was cool. We prepared for that for months. They wanted pictures of my dad and my brothers and they did loads and loads of endless tests. I think it was a message to kids to say crime doesn't pay regardless and to warn off anyone with a goatee is not to be trusted, I'm not sure. It was a lot of fun, it was a lot more fun to take it off at the end of the day and go back to my normal age. But yeah it was actually one of my final scenes that I've shot so it was a really nice way of finishing it off for me, especially as it was almost 10 years to the day where I was the kid being put on the train. So it kind of felt like my life flashed before my eyes but it was a nice way to finish it for sure."

On the casting of his real-life girlfriend, Jade, as his future wife in Harry Potter: "Sure, the lovely Jade, yes. Both of our arms were twisted to get her involved, mine first then hers. It was originally from David Heyman, the producer, came to me then David Yates loved the idea and followed up. Jade actually is my real girlfriend in real life and has been for three and a half years so it was a lot of fun to play onscreen hubby and wife for a bit and have a kid for three days. Three days is a good amount of time, for anyone wondering - it's perfect cause by the end of it, it's like, 'OK, see ya later!' No it was cool. It was really nice to be a little family for a day."
On the pressure of making that family a reality: "Whoa! Actually - who is it I was telling earlier I was really looking forward to showing my kids the films? - they were like, 'What! When did you have kids?' No, we're talking decades away. Thank you for the prompt."
On ever making music his career: "Yeah, not really. I definitely don't want to turn making music into some sort of career. I think I'm going to suck the life and passion out of it if I do that. It's a hobby. It's always been something that I've done to kill time especially when I'm waiting for scenes to be set up and things like that, and I want to keep it that way really. It's something that I'm very passionate about and I hope to be able to help other young musicians somewhere along the lines but for me personally, no. Fingers crossed I hope to continue with the acting."
