The show is set in the New York Police Department in 1972, and Milch said the story revolves around "an older detective's mentoring of a young detective returned from Vietnam in a department fiscally crippled, under attack by revolutionaries, and which has been brought by allegations of systemic corruption into public disrepute." Sounds intense. </p> <p><b>Maybe this could be the next great cop show.</b><br /> With HBO's <a href="http://buzzsugar.com/tasg/the+wire" >The Wire</a> and FX's <a href="http://buzzsugar.com/tag/the+shield" >The Shield</a> both ending after this season, it seems like a good time for a new, dark, gritty police drama.
