Could Just Anyone Write Johnny Depp's Movie About Dalí?

A New Zealand newspaper is claiming just that.
According to the New Zealand Herald, Johnny Depp is set to play surrealist painter Salvador Dalí in the film Dalí. All he needs now is a script. And apparently he doesn't really care who it comes from - just as long as it's good.

Anyone.
The paper claims Depp is holding "open auditions" to find the right screenwriter. A source in the story says, "He's open to working with anyone - from housewives to pensioners - if the script is right." Now, how credible this source is remains to be seen.

What is it about Salvador Dalí biopics?
In addition to Depp's Dalí, Al Pacino is set to play the artist in Dalí and I and there has been talk of another one titled Goodbye, Dalí with Peter O'Toole. When asked about this shared interest in the painter 18 years after his death, Dalí producer Peter Rawley offered, "Filmmakers somehow pick up on the vibe. But three films is nothing, at one stage, we counted up to nine."

4 Ways The Voice Is Different From American Idol

NBC's new singing competition series The Voice premieres tonight, with Carson Daly on board as host. Four musicians make up the judges' panel: Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera, Blake Shelton, and Cee Lo Green. Like its competitor American Idol, the show will narrow down a pool of hopefuls to one victor, who'll be rewarded with $100,000 and a recording contract for Universal Music Group. But this isn't just an Idol clone: here are the four main differences that set it apart.

Blind auditions. When the contestants are first trying out, the coaches are turned away from them so that they're not influenced by the contestants' appearance or age; the only deciding factor is their voice.
The celebrity judges aren't just there to critique. Once the judges decide they like someone's voice, they're allowed to see them. At that point, the contestant becomes a part of that coach's team, and they then mentor the contestants to a win.
The judges are actually pitted against each other. Because each coach wants someone that they've coached to win, Shelton, Levine, Green, and Aguilera may have to fight over contestants to get them on their team. The arguments they'll have to provide to get the contestants to pick them may end up being the source of the most entertainment.
The furniture is interactive. The big fancy red seats that the judges sit in aren't just a place to recline; they turn away from the contestants, but at the push of a button, the seats automatically swivel the judge around to face the stage.

Hello, Dali

Lots of people love Surrealism, particularly the work of the (in)famous Salvador Dali. But fewer people know that the iconic artist and provocateur also designed fragrances. Back in the '40s and '50s, Dali created a number of scents for the advertising and fashion design industries that were, like everything the man did, uniquely his. The artist's first scent, Salvador Dali, launched in 1983. While he passed away in 1989, his fragrance house still lives on, and you can smell of lobster telephones and pin-legged elephants whenever you wish. In fact, Dali's museum has a whole passel of the fragrances, and expect to see the launch of a new scent, Laguna Maravilla, later this month. Christina, Adam, Cee Lo, and Blake Give Us a Sneak Peek at The Voice's Second Season

Earlier this week, we stopped by the set of The Voice to hear from the singing competition’s four coaches: Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine, Cee Lo Green, and Blake Shelton. The sophomore season of the NBC reality competition will kick off in the prime post-Super Bowl spot on Feb. 5, and the foursome were on hand, along with host Carson Daly, to share a preview of what’s ahead in 2012. They talked about how the competitors have changed since season one, why they believe their show stands out among other TV talent contests, and how they’re staying involved in the careers of last year’s finalists. Here are some highlights:

Christina on next year’s format: “People wanted to see more of the blind auditions. That’s an amazing part of the show. It keeps all of us on our toes as judges, coaches, as viewers, as the contestant . . . and this year we have to choose 12 people to be on our team as opposed to last year, which there was only eight. So you’re going to see more of that [blind audition] moment.”
Adam on collaborating with last year’s champ Javier: “He’s finishing up his record. I just sang on one of his songs that Pharrell [Williams] did. It sounded amazing . . . it’s coming out soon.”
Blake on how season two's competitors are different: “I actually - which pisses me off still - had a guy ask me . . . I turned around and was telling him how I wanted him on my team, and giving him every reason why I should be his coach, and he said to me and whoever else it was: ‘I already know y’all like me. I want to know which one of you are going to keep me.’ Because he was already thinking ahead to those battle rounds. He knows what’s going to happen when we get to those battle rounds and he wants a commitment further than that, and that’s what we’re faced with because people watched the show last year and they know the game . . . So I told him to kiss my ass.”

Pretty in Pop-Art Pink: Kate Spade's Colorful Storefront

KateSpadeNY recently tweeted, "We'd be wearing #popartpink upon arrival to this storefront if we were still at @katespadebrasil." And really, who wouldn't be inspired to wear pop-art pink when presented with the gorgeous décor and color scheme of the store? Inspired by this sweet tweet, I had to round up some fantastic pink decorating elements that reflected the spirit and color of the store.

I'm dying to add this ridiculously pretty Lacquered Six-Drawer Commode (contact dealer for price). This '50s era piece has nickel-plated drawer handles in the style of Paul Frankl, an art deco furniture designer and maker, architect, painter, and writer. If the unusual drawer handles don't sell you on this piece, then the bright lacquer finishing definitely will. As far as I'm concerned, if you're outfitting a stylish, feminine bedroom, this piece is a must.

Another pink piece I'm coveting is this Schiaparelli Fragrance “Shocking” Illustration by Marcel Vertes. From 1938, this pigmented archival print of the original gouache illustration by Marcel Vertes for the Schiaparelli Fragrance "Shocking" features the words "Shocking" and "Schiaparelli" rendered as sky writing with two winged putti embracing and bound at the feet with a fabric tie. The signature torso-shaped, Dali-designed bottleis is also clearly depicted in the advertisement. Schiaparelli used this rendering for European and American advertising campaigns in the early 1950s. The piece is signed by the artist with his signature V. Vertes, an Academy Award-winning artist, is notable for his murals at the Carlyle Hotel in New York, among other works.
