Is Just Silencing Phones in Theaters Enough?

Last week comedians Aziz Ansari and Paul Scheer conducted an experiment and Twittered their thoughts during a screening of Crank 2: High Voltage. One prominent blogger was not happy when he heard this and used his own Twitter account to voice his outrage, saying, "Movie theaters are places to leave the outside world behind."

Are you cool with people keeping their phones on in the theater to text and/or Twitter? I know some people only care about the disruption of sound, but does the light from cell phones distract you from the show? Do you think people should put their phones away and keep them away?

Announcing the 2012 Critics' Choice Nominations

Award season is officially around the corner, which means the nominations are coming in droves now. The Critics' Choice nominees feature some of the same contenders we've been expecting, like The Descendants and The Artist, but also has a few surprises. Namely, Martin Scorsese's Hugo has emerged as a force to be reckoned with, leading the pack with 11 nods.

Brad Pitt's got not one but two movies up for best picture, with Moneyball and The Tree of Life, not to mention a best actor nod for himself. The Help also cleaned up with eight nominations. On a personal note, we're excited to see some of our favorite 2012 comedies getting some recognition, like The Muppets, Horrible Bosses, and of course, Bridesmaids.

I've been slightly obsessed with food blogger/writer/photographer Kate Sommers's adventures in raising chickens in the city of Minneapolis. After a couple of false starts - two hens turned out to be roosters! – she's now got three hens noisily cranking out pretty, pretty brown, pink, and blue eggs.

Probably because I haven't been very secret with my fascination, Kate very kindly offered to bring fresh eggs to a blogger event we both attended Monday night.

City-fresh eggs! I was over-the-moon. I need a life. I luckily had bacon jam to offer in trade so I wasn't a complete freeloader.
