Premiering this Saturday at 10 p.m. on BBC America, Chris Hardwick's Nerdist podcast makes its leap from audio to the visual wonders of TV with The Nerdist. The talk-show-style program will feature Chris's usual sidekicks Jonah Ray and Matt Mira along with special guests Eleventh Doctor Matt Smith (a double dose of Doctor on Saturday night) and nerd crush Craig Ferguson. As host of the Late Late Show, Craig Ferguson has been keeping us in stitches since taking over late-night hosting duties in 2005. Craig is a nerd-lover's dream; his love of science fiction and geekery come through on every episode and his Twitter account. Here's why we love the funny Scotsman.

Devoted Whovian - He dedicated an entire episode of his talk show to his love of Doctor Who. Eleventh Doctor Matt Smith even made his first American talk-show appearance for the episode.
Robot cohost - Craig is such a huge Mythbusters fan that show host Grant Imahara built him a robot sidekick name Geoff Peterson.
Geek Peacemaker - When discussing the time old debate of Star Trek vs. Star Wars with guest Adam Savage, Craig explains you don't have to pick a side, each have their own special star themes.
Shark Fan - As host of the Discovery Channel's 2010 Shark Week, Craig guided viewers through his "favorite holiday."
Loves puppets - Regular viewers of the show are familiar with the frequent use of puppets in the opening monologue and skits. For the 1,000th episode Wavy the crocodile hilariously hosted the whole show and interviewed Jason Schwartzman.
Good sport - Craig went along with the original captain William Shatner's request to show off his horsemanship skills by galloping around the stage with Shatner at the reigns.

Buzz In: Which Stars Would Make Great Awards Show Hosts?

If I watch Sunday's Tony Awards, it won't be just because I love Broadway. No, I'll also be watching for Neil Patrick Harris, who's hosting this year's ceremony. Harris cracks me up, and he's got a confident presence behind the mic. When he and Kristin Chenoweth briefly appeared to present an award at last year's Emmys, I found myself wishing they'd just hosted the whole show!

The man apparently just loves hosting, and he seems to be approaching the challenge of the show with a sense of humor - as seen in his top 10 signs you've hired a bad host for the Tonys list on Late Show with David Letterman.

Hosting is a tough gig for anyone, and I'm wondering if there are other stars you think could pull it off. Word comes this week that the Emmys are considering hiring Craig Ferguson as this year's host after last year's debacle with the five reality stars. And hiring Hugh Jackman seems to have worked out pretty well for the Oscars.

Roseanne Barr recently appeared on The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson to discuss her newfound single life, her ideal mate, and being "over it." Ahem, vaginal rejuvenation surgery (and a brand new "vajunior") is a funny way of being over it, if you ask me. Craig went on to ask how Rosie passes the time without sex in her life. She replied, "I tell jokes." Now I can't argue with that.

What's even more baffling is the fact that these dudes actually had writers. Did one of their writers leak the joke cuz it's now - (wait for it, wait for it) - the Year of the Rat? Ba-dum ching!

Are You More Likely to Watch Letterman and Ferguson Tonight?

All of the major late-night hosts - Jay Leno, David Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel, Conan O'Brien, and Craig Ferguson - return to the air tonight with new episodes for the first time since the Hollywood writers' strike began in November. Leno, Kimmel, and O'Brien will be winging it without their writers (and with picketing writers demonstrating outside their shows' studios).

Letterman and Ferguson, however, have their writing staffs intact after Letterman's Worldwide Pants production company, which owns the shows, cut a deal with the Writers Guild of America. That might also help the shows to get better guests since there won't be a picket line to cross - Letterman, for example, is returning with Robin Williams on the couch.

I'm wondering: Are you more likely to watch Letterman (or Craig Ferguson) because the writers' union says it's OK?
