The Country Music Awards are always guaranteed to bring out some glamorous looks, and this year's showing was no different. Carrie Underwood dazzled in a gold-sequined gown from Reem Acra, and Faith Hill looked beautiful in a modern white confection from Chado Ralph Rucci. Meanwhile, Nicole Kidman opted for dark metallic gown and Taylor Swift went all-out glam in a floor-sweeping gown by J.Mendel. When reflecting on all things American this 4th of July, I think of apple pie, representative democracy, Elvis, reality television, stuff like that. Of all the things I associate with this land of ours, few things strike me as uniquely American as country music, and whether you love it or loathe it, I bet you know a thing or two about it.

Some of the best musical artists we Americans get to claim came out of this genre, including Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, and Dolly Parton. So in honor of this grand country and some of music's greats, I challenge you to test your knowledge about country music!

We sat down with Rob this morning and he shared real-life risks he has taken for romance, the responsibility of portraying Jacob, and what he'd like to do to the people leaking Breaking Dawn pictures and videos. One week after her lavish wedding ceremony Reese was back in promotional mode and wearing her new wedding band when she chatted with our lucky winner of I'm a Huge Fan - stay tuned for their interview! Rob and Reese skipped the red carpet before the show, but they'll be back in front of the cameras in two weeks at the April 17 NYC premiere of their must see movie.

Cannes Minireview: The Sapphires

The Sapphires has turned out to be one of the sleeper hits to emerge from Cannes, thanks to The Weinstein Company, which has already acquired rights to the film. I caught a screening of the funny film from Down Under during the festival, so read on to find out what I thought.

Who's behind it? Director Wayne Blair was behind the lens of the picture, which is based on a play by Tony Briggs. Briggs's mother and her family actually inspired the story. Chris O'Dowd of Bridesmaids fame is the leading man. The movie's four leading ladies all have varying degrees of fame in Australia: Jessica Mauboy is a musical star after a turn on Australian Idol, and Deborah Mailman was the first Aboriginal actress to win the country's prestigious Australian Film Institute award for best actress. Relative newcomers Miranda Tapsell and Shari Sebbens round out the cast.
What's it about? It's a story about a group of Aboriginal women who overcome significant obstacles in Australia to pursue their dreams of singing in 1968. When the ladies run into Dave (O'Dowd) at a local singing contest, he agrees to be their manager and help them get a gig touring Vietnam to entertain US troops. There are subplots about racism and Australia's "lost generation" (until the 1970s, the government stole light-skinned Aboriginal children to be raised by whites elsewhere). Mainly, though, there is a lot of singing, dancing, and '60s-era costumes.

Taylor Swift struck a pose on the carpet at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas for the Billboard Music Awards today. She chose a stunning red Elie Saab gown for the musical event, which is being hosted by Julie Bowen and Ty Burrell. Taylor is nominated for multiple awards including top country artist. Her fellow country singer Carrie Underwood brought husband Mike Fisher to the show, where she'll be hitting the stage to perform.
