I love Confessions of a Shopaholic and am always down to watch it again. It's a lighthearted twist on serious issues like going into debt and dealing with sticky work situations such as office romance.

What to Netflix: New DVD Tuesday

All of the new DVD releases hit stores (and Netflix) on Tuesdays. So each week in What to Netflix: New DVD Tuesday, I sort through the best of the batch and tell you what to add to your queue.

Confessions of a Shopaholic
Sometimes I just want to stick in a funny, feel-good movie about someone who learns a lesson and finds love. Even if said movie is about excessive shopping and comes in the midst of hard economic times, it can be a welcome bit of escapism. Plus, Isla Fisher is really funny and I like seeing her in a starring role.

Confessions of a Shopaholic follows Rebecca (Fisher), a woman with an addiction to shopping who dreams of writing for a fashion magazine. Instead of fashion, Rebecca winds up writing for a financial magazine - and she's surprisingly good at it. Eventually, though, she spends more than she earns and comes very close to losing everything, including her best friend (Krysten Ritter) and her adorable love interest played by Hugh Dancy. Joan Cusack and John Goodman also star as Rebecca's parents.

Special features include bloopers, deleted scenes and a "Stuck With Each Other" music video by Shontelle featuring Akon.

read more. Waltz With Bashir An animated drama from Israeli filmmaker Ari Folman, Waltz With Bashir was nominated for an Oscar this year in the Best Foreign Language Film category. I have been really looking forward to this one coming out on DVD. The story is an autobiographical account of life during wartime and follows a 1982 Israeli Lebanon War veteran who begins to recover lost memories of his role in a massacre of Palestinian civilians inside a refugee camp. The animation looks completely stunning and the story sounds riveting. You'll definitely want to add this to your queue. Special features include commentary with director Ari Folman, a featurette titled, "Surreal soldiers: making Waltz with Bashir," a Q&A with Ari Folman, and a behind-the-scenes look at animatics. 97%
Phoebe in Wonderland I have been talking about this movie for a long time - ever since I went to Sundance in 2008 (but didn't catch a screening of it, boo). So, yay! Now it's out on DVD and we can all finally watch it. The movie looks like a darkly whimsical and cute film about the incredible imagination of a little girl. That girl is Phoebe (played by Elle Fanning), who is obsessed with a powerful fantasy life. She has trouble with her rule-filled world, and finds relief and inspiration in her quirky teacher (Patricia Clarkson). Felicity Huffman and Bill Pullman play Phoebe's frustrated parents. I think I'm drawn to this movie for the same reasons the trailer for Where the Wild Things Are nearly had me in tears. 59%

Shopaholic Designer Patricia Field Explains Shopping in Moderation

If the movie ticket price prevented you from seeing Confessions of a Shopaholic in the theaters, you may be excited to know the fun film came out on DVD today - an entertaining night doesn't get much cheaper than a $5 movie and homemade popcorn. In light of the movie making its way to more of the masses, the film's costume designer Patricia Field talked to Shape magazine about her tips for shopping with a budget. Anyone with an appreciation or affliction for shopping, take note.

When asked if she thinks certain items are worth a splurge, the accomplished designer replied:

It depends on what makes you happy. If you see something and you love it, but maybe it's a little more than you want to spend, then buy it. Just don't spend as much on the next item. It's all about balancing. You should splurge on what's really special. Really you're the most important thing, not the clothes.

Rebecca Bloomwood's plaid ensemble might be one of her tamer choices of the bunch, but it's still oozing with quirky fun. Her Byron Lars plaid dress makes a loud statement on its own, but the stylista took it up a notch by accessorizing with a wide cinched belt, thigh-high socks, and platform pumps by Steve Madden Luxe. Personally, I would nix the socks and just wear the dress with flat boots. Who would have ever thought that plaid could look so polished?

I Want This Wardrobe: Confessions of a Shopaholic, Rebecca Bloomwood

Hands down, the dancing scene in Confessions of a Shopaholic was the most hilarious. I could hardly contain my laughter, but when I did, I noticed Rebecca's salsa-inspired outfit. It was perfect for Miami. While her boss Luke Brandon looked preppy in khakis and a chambray shirt, Rebecca played it sassy like her other ensembles. She wore a neon green Louis Vuitton top, white Vivienne Westwood skirt, topped with a Judith Leiber belt, and finished with lavender and turquoise Miu Miu platforms. As for the colorful fan in her hand? You'll have to watch and see how she uses it as a comical prop. I'm giggling just thinking about it!

Isla and Hugh Take Their Confessions Overseas

Isla Fisher and her newly engaged costar Hugh Dancy posed together at the Confessions of a Shopaholic premiere last night in London before Isla headed to BBC Radio 1 this morning. Sacha Baron Cohen skipped the red carpet festivities again, but was close by to meet up for the after party. Isla looked great in her sparkling LBD yet her on-screen counterpart, Becky Bloomwood would have opted for something more colorful with her envy inducing wardrobe. We saw and loved the movie this weekend and although it wasn't a top spot at the box office, hopefully it will pick up momentum and do well overseas.
