For the past four years, the Hotel Cafe Tour has practically been a required gig for musicians on the road to breakout success (coincidentally, that same road often includes stops on shows like Grey's Anatomy and Gossip Girl, and, of course, Old Navy commercials). This year is unique because it's the first time the tour will have an entirely female lineup, sort of like a Lilith Fair for a new generation. What's even more exciting than the acts is how affordable it is — for the San Francisco show that I would like to attend the ticket price is $19!

YumSugar and I had the pleasure of seeing Arcade Fire play this weekend at the Greek Theatre on the UC Berkeley campus. Though I've been to more than my fair share of concerts, I can safely say, without hyperbole, that the Arcade Fire was truly unlike any band I've ever seen live.
While other indie-rock bands use orchestral instruments like accessories, the Arcade Fire is, essentially, an orchestra — complete with violins, stand-up bass, French horns, and some other instruments I couldn't identify.

If you're a Wilco fan in Charlottesville, Virginia, tonight, you're probably going to the Jeff Tweedy solo show at the Paramount Theatre. The rest of us are also in luck, because Wilcoworld will be airing a live webcast of the concert tonight starting at 9 p.m. Eastern time.

Most people are lucky even to have a band play at their Sweet Sixteen bash. But what if, by age 16, you're already a successful recording artist? Such is the case with Jibbs, the teen hip-hop phenom from St.

Even when competing with a Jonas Brothers 3-D extravaganza thingy, Tyler Perry's Madea Goes to Jail did not falter during its second weekend in theaters and scored the top spot at the box office again.
Disney's Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience was expected to win the weekend partly because of the extraordinary success of last year's Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour. The Jonas Brothers' movie earned an estimated $12.7 million and is considered a disappointment in comparison to the estimated $29 million that Miley's movie debut earned.

After Kanye West took to his computer keyboard to blame the organizers of the Bonnaroo Music Festival for his extremely tardy appearance (4:25 a.m. — dang!), I got to thinking about other bad concert situations. While the folks who paid good money to see Kanye at that festival clearly were not thrilled with the major delays, diva behavior isn't the only situation that can irritate a concert-goer.

Summer is a great time to hear live music — outdoors, if possible. Here in San Francisco, I'm eagerly looking forward to the inaugural Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival at the end of the month, where Iron and Wine, M. Ward, and Radiohead, among others, will be taking the stage.

Had Princess Diana not been killed a decade ago, today would have been her 46th birthday. To mark the date and the 10th anniversary of her death, London is hosting the massive Concert for Diana today, and NBC will broadcast it tonight at 8 p.m. Eastern and Pacific.

Watching Jenny Lewis of Rilo Kiley on stage is to see someone completely aware of the spells she can cast on a crowd. A little shrug of the shoulders here, a cock of the eyebrow there, and in no time, the audience for Rilo Kiley's show at The Warfield last week was thoroughly held in thrall by Lewis' charm and blockbuster voice.
But Lewis' sly sexiness wasn't the only thing keeping eyes glued to the stage.

With its canon of songs about drinking and drugs, music fests and chillout tents, and redemption and rebirth, The Hold Steady approach the act of partying with an almost religious fervor. Not surprisingly, the band's concert at Slim's last week was no exception. In fact, the show followed the pattern poetically laid out in "Hot Soft Light," from the band's newest album, Boys and Girls in America:
"It started recreational
ended kinda medical
it came on hot and soft
and then it tightened up its tentacles."
