Buzz In: Who Would You Like to See Roasted?

It's probably not a huge surprise, but Joan Rivers's roast on Comedy Central last weekend "drew 2.8 million viewers, 32% fewer than for the previous one on the cabler." I know I didn't tune in for that one. Did you?

I did, however, greatly enjoy the Comedy Central roasts of Denis Leary and Bob Saget, and obviously the success of these things depends on how interested audiences are in seeing a particular celebrity be teased and insulted over and over again. There wasn't a ton of interest in Joan Rivers, apparently. So who should get roasted on Comedy Central?

Kathy Griffin was the roastmaster for Rivers's show, and I think sometime down the line, she herself would make a good roastee. I also think Steve Martin might make for a funny roast, and I'd like to see Jeremy Piven up there someday mostly because, well, he deserves it. Who do you want to see get roasted?

TV Tonight: Roasting Bob Saget

What do you get when a raunchy, dirty, frequently inappropriate TV event meets one of the raunchiest, dirtiest, most inappropriate comedians of a generation? Awesomeness - and a stomach that aches with pain from too much laughter. And that's why I'm not-so-secretly looking forward to tonight's roast of Bob Saget on Comedy Central.

If you haven't heard yet, Bob Saget is a major dirty perv of a comedian. His shtick can be uncomfortable, but I've seen him do it live, and it's mostly pretty funny. He has the kind of mouth my grandmother would wash out with soap. It's hilariously strange given what a clean-cut father figure he was to those of us who grew up watching him as Danny Tanner on Full House, the role that made him a household name.

Anyone on Full House is a pretty easy target for a roast like this because the show was so wholesome. However, news spread this week that some off-color jokes about the Olsen twins may have crossed the line (Saget himself said those jokes went a little too far). But that tiny controversy aside (and, really, what roast worth watching doesn't stir up controversy?) the whole thing looks pretty hysterical.

Tonight's show will also be a bit of a twofer as "roast master" John Stamos does not escape ridicule either, as you can see in some of the preview clips I've gathered. The roast airs tonight at 10 p.m. EDT and PDT. To see the clips, including an absolutely wonderful bit from the legendary Cloris Leachman that literally made me spit my drink out in laughter, read more.

Wait a Minute - Who's Roasting Flava Flav?

So I thought it was strange enough when Comedy Central announced that Flava Flav would be the "honoree" at this year's celebrity roast. What made him deserving: his status as a clock-wearing hype man, or his recent turn as the bachelor star of TV's weirdest dating show? (Granted, this is the network that once roasted Pamela Anderson, so I'm not really looking for logic.) But today, Comedy Central baffled me further by announcing the list of stars who will be roasting the Flav - and the list includes Carrot Top.

Now I'm sure there's a reason for this, probably having to do with some really unfunny black vs. white jokes. But I prefer to imagine that Flava Flav and Carrot Top are friends, buddies even, who call each other "Flava" and "C-Tizzle" and get together weekly to chat about their fame and fortune over Cristal mimosas. Or something.

The rest of the roasters are: Greg Giraldo, Ice-T, Jimmy Kimmel, Lisa Lampanelli, Bridgett Neilsen, Patton Oswalt, Snoop Dogg, and Sommore, with DJing by Spinderella. The show is set to be taped July 22 and will air August 12. The real question is: Will anyone tune in for what's sure to be a train wreck of a show? Or will everyone decide Flav is enough of a punchline these days even without other people making fun of him?

Source
