Coldplay Pays Tribute to Amy Winehouse in Front of Celebrity-Filled Crowd

Chris Martin paid tribute to fellow English artist Amy Winehouse with a haunting rendition of "Rehab" during a concert in LA last night. New Music: Coldplay "Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall"

Coldplay has a fifth album coming out, and though there's no release date yet, you can get your fix with a brand-new song right here. Called "Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall," the track has that epic, swooning feel, complete with heartfelt lyrics. The band is headlining the German music festival Nürnberg's Rock Im Park this weekend, so the band will get the opportunity to showcase the track live right away. A festival setting sounds like the perfect way to experience this song - just imagine it closing out a concert while the crowd sways in unison. It's tradition to have a performance by a popular artist at the end of the Fall Apple event, and although we made our guesses, we were not disappointed about who actually made the appearance. Not only was The Woz in attendance of today's presentation, but Chris Martin also hit the stage with a piano to perform some tunes. We were treated to one of my fave Coldplay songs, "Yellow," and Chris gave some major props to Apple for pushing Viva la Vida into the stratosphere.

Coldplay Breaks Record in Digital Album Sales

Coldplay is making history in the digital age: the band has just become the first act to sell over one million full digital albums in the US., and they have also sold approximately two million digital albums worldwide. I don't know why, exactly, but it surprises me a little that out of all the bands and musicians out there, Coldplay is the one to sell the most digital albums.

MusicRadar notes: "And for Coldplay, the stats keep getting better and better: their 2008 release Viva La Vida, is now ranked as the top-selling digital album in SoundScan history. (Although we suspect a certain king of pop might stand a chance at besting that figure within a matter of weeks.)" So Coldplay's achievement here may be surpassed by Michael Jackson pretty soon, which would make sense.

Does this surprise you at all? Or does it seem natural that Coldplay would be the first band to sell over a million digital albums?
