Anne Hathaway joined Academy President Tom Sherak this morning in LA to announce the nominees for this year's Oscars. As expected, there was lots of love for Avatar — the film is up in a total of nine categories, as is The Hurt Locker, including Best Picture and Best Director nominations for both James Cameron and Kathryn Bigelow. This is the first year with 10 films in the running for Best Picture, and The Blind Side scored a spot next to films like Up, Inglourious Basterds, and District 9.

I've been digging the CW's heartfelt midseason hit Life Unexpected, and as of last week's second episode, you guys are too. Tonight we'll be treated to another installment following adopted teen Lux, played by Britt Robertson. I had a chance to chat with Robertson about her character, her hopes for the show's relationships (love triangle ahead), her costars (she's roommates with Shiri Appleby!), and the show's warm reception.

To say that Glee is on a roll lately would be a huge understatement: first it won a People's Choice Award, then it got picked up for a second season, and on Sunday night it took home the Golden Globe for Best TV Comedy. It's no wonder so many big names want a piece of the action, and now there are three hopefuls to add to the star-studded roster.
First up is Neil Patrick Harris!

Looks like there is no stopping Avatar! The film had a very good weekend — not only did it take home record-breaking wins at the Critics' Choice Awards and two Golden Globes, it also took the top spot at the box office with $41.3 million. Thanks to the new sales figures, the movie is closing in on the $500 million mark domestically (and getting closer to unseating Titanic as the highest grossing film of all time).

Well, not too many surprises here — one of the most buzzed-about films of the season (and on my list of personal favorites), Up in the Air, will be well represented at the Golden Globe Awards next month. Jason Reitman's film scored six nominations, including Best Director, Best Actor (yay Clooney!), and not one but two Best Supporting Actress nods for Vera Farmiga and Anna Kendrick.
Of course, it also earned a best dramatic film nomination along with Inglourious Basterds, which was right on its heels with four nominations of its own.

Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner may be dominating the promotional circuit right now, but they're not the only cast members with something to say about New Moon. I had the opportunity to chat with costars Kellan Lutz and Ashley Greene, aka Emmett and Alice Cullen, during their recent stopover in SF. They chatted about their characters, the vampire craze, and what it's like to be a "Twilight celebrity."

Wow. The biggest surprise of the third season finale of Mad Men isn't actually a plot point, but how light and almost exciting it manages to be. For a show that's normally so tense and tightly wound, this week's episode has a quick pace, and at times, a sense of humor.

Tuesday means it's time to rev up your entertainment engine with new releases in music and new DVDs to add to your Netflix queue. I've checked out today's movie offerings and have some recommendations for the movies that are worth your rental time below.

This Summer's hit from Pixar is as tear-jerking as it is funny and light, and equally entertaining for kids and adults.

The cat's outta the bag on this week's episode of The Vampire Diaries, but Elena isn't the only one who has a rude awakening. We also get to see the history on the lives of Stefan, Damon, and Katherine in the 1860s — and the story behind those olden-day photos.
As usual, I've picked the moments from this episode that stand out as the good, the bad, and the bloody, so to see them just (spoilers ahead!) read more

I like the Coen brothers. I loved No Country For Old Men, I still enjoy quoting Frances McDormand lines from Fargo — I even appreciated their most recent project, Burn After Reading despite lukewarm reviews. So I went into A Serious Man with high expectations.
