Spinal Tap Returning to the Studio for More Funny Stuff

Before Flight of the Conchords and The Lonely Island were recording hilarious parody songs, there was Spinal Tap. The spoof metal band headed up the 1984 This is Spinal Tap mockumentary and vaulted into the spotlight with a couple of classic albums, including songs like "Stonehenge" and "Gimme Some Money."

And now, Spinal Tap is back! Close to the 25th anniversary of the movie, Harry Shearer told the BBC that the band - which includes him, Christopher Guest, and Michael McKean - will be heading back into the studio to record some new material. They'll record a version of the song they performed at Live Earth (the awesomely titled "Warm as Hell") plus some new material. Shearer suggested there's a "Gimme Some More Money" in the works, though it's obviously hard to tell if that's a joke. They're also planning a Summer acoustic tour called "Unwigged, Unplugged, and Undead." Seriously, I don't think I could love them more.

Recently, the actors - or rather, their heavy metal alter egos - sat down with Vanity Fair to talk about the highs and lows of the past 25 years. It's a pretty great read, in which they peg the age of their average fan as somewhere between 50 and 70 and say they haven't had to worry about becoming irrelevant because they were never relevant in the first place. According to Variety, Josh Hartnett will be starring in a London stage production of the movie Rain Man, taking on the role originally played by Tom Cruise.
Rapper Young Jeezy will join the cast of Ice Cube's comedy Janky Promoters, Billboard writes.
Michael Imperioli will join the cast of ABC's Life on Mars, Variety reports.
Four more actors have joined the cast of the Night at the Museum sequel, including Christopher Guest, ComingSoon reports.
Entertainment Weekly reports that Criminal Minds looks like the next CBS show to get a spinoff.
Billboard writes that at a private concert this week, Pearl Jam helped raise $3 million for the poverty-fighting charity the Robin Hood Foundation.
TNT will remake the British series Cracker, about an abrasive and heavy-drinking detective, with Robert Duvall as an executive producer, Zap2it reports.
A lost interview with the Beatles has been aired on BBC radio, the Associated Press reports.

Ricky Gervais' This Side of the Truth Is Going to Be So Awesome

First off:
This Side of the Truth, written and directed by Ricky Gervais, looks like it's going to be awesome. The story is set in a world where no one has ever lied, and, according to Gervais, he plays "a loser who discovers one day that he, and only he has the ability to lie. In a world where no one even understands the concept of lying, everyone totally believes, without question anything I tell them. I can say anything at all and they accept this as the gospel truth. I can get anything I want. Or can I?"

Secondly:
Gervais is awesomely blogging his experience of working on this movie, from his collaboration with co-writer and director Matt Robinson ("During the [conference] call me and Matt passed each other off-putting notes and obscene pictures to make each other laugh. I lost, and at one point had to leave the room") to observations about picking out costumes as an actor ("Some directors/lead actors would choose their wardrobe based on style, creation of original iconography and aesthetic enhancement of the fictional world. I chose mine based on comfort, how long they take to get in and out of and on what I would want to keep when the movie is complete.")

Thirdly:
Look at all the ridiculously cool people in this movie. Jennifer Garner, Jonah Hill, Rob Lowe and Louis C.K. are confirmed, while Gervais has stated on his blog that Tina Fey, Christopher Guest (Christopher Guest!), Jeffrey Tambor and John Hodgman have also been cast.

This is going to be awesome.

Christopher Guest, Mitchell Hurwitz Teaming Up for Pilot

Here's something to snap you out of that post-Oscars funk: "Arrested Development" creator Mitchell Hurwitz and Waiting for Guffman writer/director Christopher Guest are teaming up to make a comedy pilot for ABC.

According to Zap2it, Guest will be directing Hurwitz's adaptation of a British show called "The Thick of It," which - no surprises here - is filmed like a mockumentary.

My inner "Arrested Development" fan is already mourning the show's demise, but I'm going to try to be optimistic for a little while. After all, that other faux-British-documentary-turned-American-sitcom seems to be doing alright for itself, and Guest and Hurwitz rarely disappoint. What do you all think?

The gorgeous Rosie Huntington-Whiteley joined Christopher Bailey to play host to the LA fashion crowd while Solange Knowles played DJ to the bevvy of stylish guests who turned out to celebrate Burberry's new Burberry Body fragrance. We spotted Kate Bosworth in a tribal-inspired frock from Burberry Prorsum's Spring '12 collection, Rachel Zoe showing off the brand's iconic trench in a standout hue, and Rosie, shimmering in Burberry's champagne slip dress. New CBS Thriller Person of Interest Draws Comparisons to Batman and Lost

Person of Interest, CBS's new thriller starring Michael Emerson and Jim Caviezel, presented its TCA panel in a unique way: via satellite from New York, since they were busy at work shooting the series. We still got to hear from cast members Emerson, Caviezel, and Taraji P. Henson as well as executive producer and writer Jonathan Nolan (yes, Christopher's brother) about their tense drama. In it, Emerson plays an inventor of a machine that can predict when someone is about to be the victim of a crime, and Caviezel is the former CIA agent with a dark past who's recruited to help use it. They discussed their characters and why the show isn't so sci-fi after all while fielding questions about similarities to the Batman films (which Nolan co-wrote) and Emerson's Lost legacy.

Though Michael Emerson will always be Ben Linus for some of us, the former Lost star is keen to move on, but he acknowledges that he may not be able to completely. "Part of me wants to leave behind everything I've ever done before," but he only knows "one way to rattle around scenes." Still, he seemed excited about his new character Finch on Person of Interest, describing him as a "shadowy tech billionaire" who has had some kind of transformative experience. Though Finch has dedicated himself to a justice mission, a physical handicap prevents him from intervening, which is why he needs to team up with someone who can - enter Caviezel's character.
Caviezel famously played Jesus in The Passion of the Christ. When it was brought up, the actor deadpanned that the film was "a little bit more controversial than I thought it would be." After he professed that he just keeps "movin' on," he talked about his mysterious character on Person of Interest. Though he's tough, Caviezel says he's "deep down, a guy who is searching for purpose." As to why Caviezel was desired for the series, Nolan said that he had seen the actor years earlier in The Thin Red Line and called his performance unbelievable. When Nolan heard Caviezel might be interested, Nolan was "amazed and thrilled" to work with him.
The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises screenwriter Nolan could see similarities between Batman's world and Person of Interest because of the surveillance system in the first film. He said that he's fascinated by the idea of a "surveillance state," because of the question of "what happens when you start harnessing all that information." To Nolan, that makes his show "not science fiction" but "science fact."

Kirsten Brant of k.brant interiors wants you to focus on seating.
"In this space, I built a banquette that wrapped around the entire room, so there would be seating for everyone and their friends. A great place for conversations! There are televisions and drink tables for your snacks as well as a bar with a wine fridge and soda storage right next door. Any space with a lot of seating is great for being with your friends and making new ones."

Chris Coleman of Christopher Coleman Interior Design is committed to color.
"Create a welcoming hang-out place. Mix and match to bring the friends home! Look for pieces that are eclectic, colorful, and modern. Mix shapes and sizes and don't forget the accessories that add a dazzling interest and create conversation."

Richard Lee of Richard Lee Interior Design relies on "portable furniture."
"What I like to use are little benches that can go behind a sofa or under a table, that can be pulled up and perched upon. I call it 'portable furniture', and it can be used to augment other furniture arrangements . . . instant conversation-seating additions."

And Tara Seawright of Tara Seawright Inc./Interior Design has her eye on materials.
"When designing a room for entertaining, I want to be sure that guests will feel at ease. This space is glamorous, yet still comfortable, and offers surfaces made of marble, glass and mirror - all of which are appropriate for guests to place glasses on without wondering "Do I need a coaster?" The fabrics are also durable, and the rug is patterned to avoid seeing all spills or crumbs. This room also allows the hostess to be at ease, and when your hostess is relaxed everybody has a great time."
