TV Tonight: Shrek the Halls

It's not even a week since Thanksgiving, but Christmas special season is well underway on ABC. The network aired the classic Charlie Brown Christmas on Tuesday, and tonight brings our first look at the newest animated holiday special, Shrek the Halls.

The whole original Shrek gang - including Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz - is around for this half-hour special, which finds Shrek struggling to get into the holiday spirit. Who would have known Shrek wasn't much for decked halls and mistletoe? Of course, Donkey, Puss in Boots and the rest of the clan will rally the silly ogre into yuletide shape before the end of the half-hour. Maybe this will turn out to be a holiday classic - but even if it's not, we can recover by watching How the Grinch Stole Christmas immediately after. (Pushing Daisies follows at 9 p.m., while Private Practice takes the night off.)

Janice Dickinson's Words of Wisdom

Love her or hate her, Janice Dickinson is hard to ignore, but she is so absolutely over the top that I can't help but find entertaining. I had the chance to interview her at the FOX Billboard Music Awards in Vegas earlier this week, and while I wouldn't exactly describe her as subdued, she was funny and more focused in person than she comes off on TV. There's no doubt that Dickinson, who calls herself "a gay man in a supermodel's body," is having a blast. "I’m living my dream," she says of her reality show. "I get to ask hot men to drop trou, and I get to view thousands of bodies a day. I get to really have fun." She's also a big advocate of her models eating well and exercising and, not surprisingly, she had plenty of advice to offer: "Lots of water. No alcohol. Anything that crawls swims or flies is good broiled. As long as it’s cardiovascular, you should do it, even if it’s having sex on top." Hard to argue with that. On Dec. 13, she's doing a one-hour special called "Christmas With the Dickinsons," but until then, here's a little something to make your holiday brighter.

14 Geeky Languages to Learn With Your Love

Love may be a universal language, but we're not sure that phrase includes the sci-fi alien races and fantastical creatures that rule the far depths of the galaxy, who express love in words beyond our human comprehension. When you're thinking of a unique way to woo your valentine this year, plan a tutorial to learn together one of these 14 geeky languages. While several of these Trekkie, Tolkien, or computer gaming-inspired languages have enough depth to warrant a university level class, many are not fully realized, so have fun discovering select words and phrases to bring to future geeky date outings.

Wookie - Made up of three dialects, the main Wookie language is Shyriiwook. As you'd expect it consists of lots of barks and grunts, but don't you dare say that to Chewbacca. The Star Wars Christmas Special has detailed examples of this mystifying tongue.
Klingon - The language of Klingons, the sometimes ally of the Federation, is arguably the best known of the imagined star languages. Described by its Hollywood creators as gutteral in tone, dedicated Trekkies maintain the Klingon Language Institue, preserving the galaxy's "fastest growing language."
Vulcan - Known as the language of Spock, one version of Vulcan looks like musical notes. Much of the language is available online today as Gene Roddenberry was insistent when making Star Trek: The Motion Picture that the Vulcans receive their own linguistic treatment.
Romulan - As biological cousins of the Vulcans, the Romulan language is difficult to differentiate from Vulcan to the untrained ear. The Central Institute of the Romulan Language ensures you get the right training to one day know the difference.
Cardassian - Residents of the Alpha Quadrant, Cardassians are a fearsome foe of the Federation. Little is known of their language, maybe because of its rectangular-shaped letters and script.
Andorian - The blue-skinned moon species from Andora appeared throughout the Star Trek series and would of course show up in the directory of a PADD.
Elvish - With a background in linguistics study from Oxford, Tolkien did not take the creation of the Lord of the Rings languages lightly. Based on Welsh and English, you can study Liv Tyler's Arwen in the film trilogy for pronunciation and read the many online Elvish resources, including an English to Elvish dictionary.
Dwarvish - Also called Khuzdul, Tolkien is said to have drawn inspiration for the secret language of the Dwarves from Hebrew, reflecting many of the same sounds and structure. As many Lord of the Rings languages, it's been almost fully realized and you can study up with the Dwarvish dictionary.

Jessica Alba touched down in Cabo yesterday with her daughters, Haven and Honor. Haven, who's just 4 months old, was safe in her stroller while Honor helped with the bags. A few fans asked Jessica to pose for a picture, and the actress sweetly complied. Jessica's husband, Cash Warren, had no trouble easing into the relaxing. He was pictured spending the afternoon at an outdoor bar, drinking beers with pals.

Jessica and Cash are set to ring in the new year in Mexico with family and friends. The fun started last night, though, when Honor did a Little Mermaid routine with two other youngsters. It was an extra special year for Honor, who, in addition to welcoming a sister, got to visit with Santa and open up a bright pink Barbie car on Christmas morning.

The Doctor Who Christmas special is set to air today, Christmas Day, on BBC America at 9 p.m. Get in the holiday spirit with some seasonal cheer from series' main TARDIS residents. Sing along as Matt Smith, Karen Gillan, and Arthur Darvill lead a rendition of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas."
