Cheech & Chong Take Their Love/Hate Relationship Back on the Road

I wonder if Cheech Marin caught a trailer of Pineapple Express, which prompted him to announce that he thinks "dope humor" is just as relevant today as it was in the 1970s - if not more so. "I think it's time for a revival of dope jokes," he recently said in an interview. "It's a much bigger audience now, it's much more widespread and institutionalized."

Thus, Cheech and his buddy Tommy Chong are reuniting and bringing their dope humor back to the stage for a Live Nation-promoted tour called "Hey, What's That Smell?" The twosome has had its share of problems in recent years with bickering and struggling with "creative differences." Cheech recently stated, "There's this veiled hatred," and then added, "We've kind of resolved that. We've gotten to the age where we don't feel like fighting anymore because the end is a lot closer than the beginning." Billboard goes on to say that the two "tossed around some ideas and figured a comedy tour would be 'the most fun' and 'the least hassle'."

Though Chong, who has continued doing standup, joked "I guess Cheech forgot how tough standup is."

Another Trailer for Your Consideration: Beverly Hills Chihuahua

We've discussed some of the big trailers that premiered over the weekend, and now I would like to point your attention to another little summer movie preview hitting the Web.

I think there are several ways to approach the movie Beverly Hills Chihuahua (previously known as South of the Border): with excitement (singing dogs!), dread (what the heck is going on in Hollywood?), or wonderment at the jaw-droppingly ridiculous fact that this thing is happening. I've chosen the last approach because this thing is just so funny to me.

Not that you'll get any of this from the preview, but the movie's plot is summed up by IMDB as such: "While on vacation in Mexico, Chloe, a ritzy Beverly Hills chihuahua, finds herself lost and in need of assistance in order to get back home."

There are a bunch of celebrities lending their voices to this canine bonanza, including Drew Barrymore (Chloe), Salma Hayek, Edward James Olmos, Andy Garcia, and Cheech Marin. Of course, I'd only subject you to something like this on Cinco de Mayo, as you're probably more likely to be in the mood for this little song and dance number on a holiday. TV Tonight: Cheech Marin on "Lost"

Well, last week's episode of "Lost" left much to be desired, but after a bewildering guest appearance by Bai Ling, this week promises a more fun choice: Cheech Marin is playing Hurley's dad in a flashback!

Called "Tricia Tanaka is Dead," tonight's episode features Hurley's flashbacks while in "real time" he discovers a wrecked car on the island, leading him on a mission of hope. Sawyer and Kate reunite with the other original island folk, but Kate is still determined to help Jack.

I love how the "Lost" promos are threatening us with social inadequacy: “If you miss this episode, you won’t know what everyone is talking about in the morning!” I think it just means I'll be well-rested on Thursday, but to watch the preview,

Rob Schneider Talks About His Wife as the Real-Life Inspiration For New Sitcom Rob

Saturday Night Live alum and frequent Adam Sandler collaborator Rob Schneider is coming to TV with his own series, Rob. The CBS show's title isn't the only thing that's inspired by Schneider: the premise of the midseason show, about the newlywed relationship between Rob and his Mexican-American spouse (played by Claudia Bassols) and her family, is based on Schneider's own relationship with his wife. Schneider hit the Winter TCA along with showrunners and other stars like Cheech Marin to talk about the love story behind the show.

Schneider, whose wife Patricia is from Mexico City, said their home life has inspired the show. "It's like a sitcom at our house," he said, because his wife is so funny, and since her first language is Spanish, there's often humor found in that. She's prone to saying things like "in Spanish I'm much funnier, you have no idea," and "translator off!" meaning she's not going to listen to him anymore at certain times of night.
Schneider recounted his love story with Patricia, highlighting their mutual ethnicities as a factor. "My dad's German," he explained, "they're not touchy feely," but "Mexicans kiss you when you see them and when you leave." He called it a beautiful thing, and when he first met his wife (he was a guest on a show in Mexico that she was producing), and she kissed him to greet him. He said he then begged her to go out with him for weeks, and finally she accepted, flying from Mexico to LA with her mother to meet.
Costar Bassols, who plays Rob's wife on the show, said that she has met Schneider's wife Patricia, but has not taken notes for her performance. "She has that something special that's impossible to imitate," Bassols said, and gushed about how sweet Schneider's relationship with his wife is. "Every time Rob talks about his wife, his face lights up," she said, adding that "their love story inspires this whole story." When she was done, Schneider softly said thank you to her.
