TV Tonight: Center Stage Sequel on Oxygen

I can't believe this almost slipped off my radar, but never fear, dear readers: I finally did remember that the sequel to Center Stage is airing on Oxygen tonight. And just because this is a made-for-TV movie (the first went to theaters) that will head to DVD in January doesn't mean they're skimping on the good stuff.

For example, Peter Gallagher is reprising his role as artistic director Jonathan Reeves, and accomplished ballet dancer Ethan Stiefel is back as Cooper Nielson. This time around, we'll watch a new generation of dancers tackle the world of New York ballet:

Kate, a talented, self-taught ballerina . . . leaves her Detroit home to audition for the prestigious American Ballet Academy in New York. Despite displaying superior abilities and impressing experienced teacher Cooper Nielsen (Stiefel), Kate is rejected by Artistic Director Jonathan Reeves (Gallagher) in favor of classical ballerina Suzanne. A prodigy from a wealthy family, Suzanne has been trained in classical ballet since the moment she could walk. Kate then meets hockey player-turned-dancer Tommy, who has been accepted to the Academy, but still needs help with his technique. As Kate and Tommy work together, their growing affection inspires a new determination and commitment to achieving their dreams.

Center Stage Sequel on the Way!

What a great hump day! First, Ryan and Rachel rekindle their love and now this: Popwrap is claiming that one of my favorite dance movies of all time will be getting a sequel. They write:

CS: Turn It Up gets a little urban on us this time as Kate Parker, a self-taught prodigy catches Jonathan's eye and makes it into the American Ballet Academy. Sadly things don't go as planned and she's booted from the school - only to meet Tommy, an ex-hockey player and unlikely new ABA student (obviously) who crushes on Kate and gets her a job at a hot NYC nightclub, The Foundry. Well, needless to say, sparks fly and I am sure there is an amazing dance-off to end all cinematic dance-offs.

I totally agree that the dance-off is a guarantee - and I look forward to it. The original Center Stage is hilariously earnest and cheesy, but when dance is involved I have a hard time saying no. Of the original cast only Peter Gallagher and Ethan Stiefel will return. The sequel will premiere on Oxygen in November (don't worry, I'll remind you) and then head straight to DVD (I'll probably remind you then too).

It may not be a masterpiece but it's totally the kind of mindless TV movie sequel I kinda can't resist. I dug up the final dance scene for the original Center Stage, so if you have about ten minutes you'd like to fill with wonderment, just

It's just one week since the finale, and I'm already suffering withdrawal from So You Think You Can Dance. My backup dance show, America's Best Dance Crew, is also nearly done. Katy Perry Matches Her Blue Hair to an Elie Saab Gown For the Grammys

Katy Perry was all about blue on the red carpet at this evening's Grammys. She paired her bright colored hair with a similarly-hued dress from celeb favorite Elie Saab. Katy's up for two honors this evening. "Fireworks" is in contention for record of the year and she's also up for best pop solo performance. We'll see if Katy gets her hands on her first Grammy, as she's been nominated - for six previously - but hasn't won. She's especially excited for one of the show's performers. Katy tweeted earlier this afternoon, "You know it's a great day when you walk into the Staples Center and all The Beach Boys are physically playing on stage." With New York Fashion Week only a couple of weeks away, we're admittedly preoccupied with what we'll be wearing. Sure, the runways take center stage, but killer street style is half the fun. To that end, we're handpicking our favorite pieces to pack for the action because you never know when you might get snapped. Here's a little fodder for your outfit planning and a peek at the essentials we'll be packing this season:

Keep your outerwear functional and stylish by investing in a go-with-anything anorak. A piece like this transitions seamlessly from day to night and pairs well with just about everything, trust us.
Look for added luxe in a great pair of earrings. High necklines and layers might cover up a pretty necklace, but a gorgeous pair of drop earrings will lend a glam touch that won't get lost in your look.
Ditch your blue jeans in favor of slick leather. A pair of leather pants looks infinitely more polished than your faded denim - think of this as your Fashion Week basic, then add on your cozy knits to contrast.
As far as footwear is concerned, keep it practical. A pair of strappy heels might look great, but chances are you'll be pretty chilly. Swap out stilettos for a bootie with a substantial block heel or a walkable platform. Keep a cool loafer or oxford on hand for staying stylish on the run.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were seated front and center for last night's Screen Actors Guild Awards show. Angelina and Brad met up with George Clooney and Stacy Keibler on the red carpet, but once inside they had Jonah Hill on one side and Tilda Swinton on the other. Angelina and Tilda were spotted chatting throughout the show and of course they all paid respects to the winners, but most of the time Brad and Angelina only had eyes for each other. Alec Baldwin and The Artist winner Jean Dujardin both stopped by to say hello to Brad. The only time Angelina was left alone, though, was when Brad took the stage to present the outstanding performance by an ensemble in a movie award.

Award season saw another glamorous night with the Screen Actors Guild Awards in LA this evening. Stars from both the big and small screens brought even more great looks with plenty of ladies stepping out in neutrals. Presenter Zoe Saldana glowed in a white Givenchy Couture gown straight from the Paris runways while Bridesmaids' Kristen Wiig chose a Balenciaga halter. Viola Davis, who won best actress and best picture for The Help, got gorgeous in a strapless Marchesa and her winning costar Octavia Spencer donned Tadashi Shoji. The Good Wife's Julianna Margulies wore a custom beaded Calvin Klein Collection as she arrived on the arm of her husband Keith Lieberthal.

There were a few fun pops of color this evening, including a group that matched the carpet in red. Best actress nominee Michelle Williams looked sweet in a lace Valentino gown and Lanvin clutch and Kyra Sedgwick showed skin in a cutout Pucci that displayed her rib tattoo of her family's initials. Modern Family's Sofia Vergara continued her sexy streak in a strapless pink Marchesa dress and Lorraine Schwartz jewels, which were front and center when she took the stage with her costars to accept the best TV comedy ensemble statue. Emily Blunt got bright in a green Oscar de la Renta next to husband John Krasinski, and The Help's Jessica Chastain went with a bold blue Calvin Klein.

Angelina Jolie led the pack of black looks in a slinky Jenny Packham gown and Ashlee Simpson followed suit in a sequin number by the same designer when she arrived with boyfriend and Boardwalk Empire nominee Vincent Piazza. Emma Stone mixed things up with a short McQueen and 30 Rock's Tina Fey went strapless in Versace. Melissa McCarthy, who was nominated for Bridesmaids, joined the dark-hued dresses in navy Badgley Mischka. How to Work Bright Hues Into Your Makeup Routine (And Wardrobe, Too)

Bold colors in clothing can make your makeup choices a little dicey. Should you balance a vivid shade with pops of color in the eyes and lips, or go neutral, as not to look too silly? Recently I styled starlet Camilla Belle's makeup for the Art of Elysium event. She wore a beautiful, bright yellow dress that gave me pause in terms of makeup. My first instinct was to do a bright lip and pale skin. I then decided that the yellow should be the only color, and that everything else should be crisp, but neutral.

For the cheeks and lips I wanted to go with Camilla's natural lip color, just a little more vivid: too pink and it would be too sweet/little girl, and too plum it would be kind of Easter-y. To accomplish this, I used Maybelline Dream Mousse in Soft Plum on the cheeks, and Tarte LipSurgence in Enchanted on the lips. It was the perfect way to let the yellow dress take center stage, all while keeping the face from looking low-watt. Want to play with color, too? Will You Watch the Dance Moms Spinoff?

Welcome to Miami! Like most reality shows, the runaway ratings hit Dance Moms on Lifetime has seen its share of drama. The original follows instructor Abby Lee Miller, the girls' fiercely competitive instructor, as she tells it like it is - little girls' and their mothers' feelings notwithstanding. Like its predecessor, Toddlers and Tiaras, Dance Moms has proven to be as much about the conflicts and personalities of the don't-call-them-stage-moms stage moms as it is about actual dance (hence the title).

Much of show's controversy has centered on Miller's very demanding teaching style. She is very up front about the fact that she does not baby these girls and expects complete and utter focus and determination - bellyaches, schoolwork, and other kid stuff is irrelevant in her world. Berating both mother and child is a part of the job.

The spinoff takes the wildly successful franchise down South, to the slightly more TV-friendly locale of Miami, FL - the original is filmed in Pittsburgh, PA - to follow two new teachers and a new crop of eager pupils. Maybe the warmer climate will mean a mellower crowd? Let's hope not: that wouldn't make for very good TV now, would it?
