This has been a huge year for music so far: Taylor Swift has won every trophy imaginable, Whitney Houston is staging her comeback, and Michael Jackson is still topping the charts, even after his death. Perhaps that's why tonight's American Music Awards sounds even better than in the past — and I'll be at the show to bring you all of the exciting moments!
Let's go over what to expect from the evening.

New DVD and music releases are the perk of Tuesdays, and today's album picks are fresh, fun, and guaranteed to liven up your iPod. I've checked out today's new music and have some advice for what's worth the download.
Don't stop partying: I'll resist doing a full-on album review for Weezer's Raditude; it's tempting, because I've always been a fan and have much to say about the band's transformation over the last 15 years.

The Dark Knight's crazy box office success translated into a whole bundle of People's Choice Awards on Wednesday night. The film took home the trophies for Favorite Movie, Favorite Action Movie, and Favorite Cast, and Christian Bale also won Favorite Superhero and part of the Favorite On-Screen Matchup award (shared with the late Heath Ledger).
Carrie Underwood was another big winner of the night, taking home three awards — including the Favorite Star Under 35 trophy.

Chris Brown, Rihanna, and Kanye West were among the big winners Sunday at the American Music Awards. Brown took home the biggest prize of all, winning Artist of the Year by beating out Lil Wayne, Coldplay, the Eagles, and Alicia Keys. It was one of three awards for Brown, who also won Favorite Male Artist in both the pop/rock and soul/R&B categories.

When reflecting on all things American this 4th of July, I think of apple pie, representative democracy, Elvis, reality television, stuff like that. Of all the things I associate with this land of ours, few things strike me as uniquely American as country music, and whether you love it or loathe it, I bet you know a thing or two about it.
Some of the best musical artists we Americans get to claim came out of this genre, including Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, and Dolly Parton.

Former American Idol contestants and Justin Timberlake ruled the night at the American Music Awards on Sunday. Chris Daughtry's band, Daughtry, and Carrie Underwood each took home three awards — Daughtry for pop/rock album, adult contemporary artist, and breakthrough artist, Underwood for country album, female country artist, and the T-Mobile text-in award. Timberlake, who accepted his awards via video from Australia, won for male pop/rock artist and soul/r&b album.

Fresh off her wins at this year's Country Music Awards, Carrie Underwood has released a video for her song "Ever, Ever After," which will be featured in the upcoming movie Enchanted, and it's modeled after the very movie of which it will be a part. There's a whole animated section with a Disney-fied Carrie who somehow finds herself in present-day Manhattan, enchanting all those angry New Yorkers —and her soulmate.
The song is nice enough, a little cutesy, but Underwood sounds great.
