J. Edgar Trailer: Leonardo DiCaprio Rocks the Historical Boat

Edgar. It could be director Clint Eastwood's influence, the magnitude of the man he's playing, or possibly it's the slightly over-the-top accent DiCaprio uses. J. Edgar Hoover was the first director of the FBI, a proponent of using fingerprints to identify people, and a controversial figure whose paranoid tactics almost got him dismissed from his job by the three presidents he served under, Harry S. Truman, John F. Kennedy, and Lyndon B. Johnson.

DiCaprio plays Hoover over the course of a couple decades, and after he shows up with a couple of minor changes, like brown contacts, he gets a full physical transformation to portray him as an older man, aging makeup and all. Aside the from the vaguely distracting accent, it looks like DiCaprio turns in a solid performance in the biopic. And with Eastwood attached, it's sure to attract some Oscar buzz. Decide for yourself when you watch the trailer for the film, which also stars Armie Hammer and Naomi Watts, when you keep reading

Ways to Cut Calories and Avoid the Freshman 15

Candy was my study buddy, and I ate pasta for dinner every night, so it's unsurprising that my first semester of college I ended up putting on way more than the dreaded freshman 15. Gaining weight once you hit dorm life doesn't have to be a given; you can avoid packing on the pounds and having to buy a new, larger wardrobe with these calorie-cutting tips.

Choose a limited meal plan: Signing up for unlimited trips to the dining hall is a meal plan option, but not the best one when you want to avoid weight gain. If you can hit the dining hall whenever you want, you'll be tempted to join your friends for a second dinner, so choose the two or three meals a day option, and eat in your dorm room the rest of the time.

Don't fall for the all-you-can-eat scam: It's shocking when you walk into a dining hall for the first time and see the huge spread of self-serve food to choose from. Make sure you're keeping your portions in check, and don't make a habit of going back for seconds and thirds. Having mozzarella sticks and french fries for every meal won't do your waist any favors either, so skip the high-calorie fried foods and opt for the salad bar instead.

Don't splurge on junk even though no one is watching you. It's liberating not to have your parents there to tell you not to eat that fourth cookie, but those calories add up just the same. Use your healthy sense, and know when to indulge and when to say no.

Continue reading for more ways to avoid the freshman 15.

Chris Pratt Talks Parks and Rec's "Blessing" of an Emmy Nomination and "Manly" Nick Offerman

Parks and Recreation has such a great ensemble, but Chris Pratt, who plays good-natured musician Andy Dwyer, is one of my favorites in the cast. I had a chance to talk to Pratt about the show and how he makes his character so disarming at the Summer TCA. He also revealed his deep love for Nick Offerman, who plays the already-legendary Ron Swanson, where Andy's relationship with April is going, and his feelings about the show's big Emmy nod for outstanding comedy series.

BuzzSugar: What was your reaction to the show's best comedy nomination?
Chris Pratt: Aside from maybe [the fact that] I was really hoping that Nick Offerman would receive a best actor comedy nomination, because I think he really deserves one, I thought that Amy and the show itself were both really deserving, and we were thrilled about it. It's really a team of people in every way; everyone depends on everyone else. We have really great writers, and that makes the form of the comedy, then we have really great performers that step up and elevate the material. We're working really hard, so it's nice. The fact that we almost didn't come back one year and have had half seasons - we weren't getting necessarily a lot of love. But that was really nice to receive some love, so the nomination means a lot. It really means a lot to everybody. We all really love going to work, and still love being around one another, look forward to going back to work . . . It's a great environment. Without a nomination it would still be great, but that was just a really nice blessing on top of it.

Buzz: Besides Nick, who else in the cast impresses you?
CP: There's such a synergy among the cast; it really is greater than the sum of its parts. I can't really single one person out without talking about everybody, but Adam Scott - I tell him all the time that he's a terrific and perfect addition to the cast, as well as Rob Lowe, who's been killing it - Adam Scott is great. He's got a budding love interest storyline with Amy that'll play out for hopefully a long time. Our cast is good at comedy, and he's good at a kind of comedy our cast was missing: understated straight man comedy. He's really funny in real life and really just a terrific actor, and his reactions to some of this crazy stuff going on in the world around him really works. He's like the nerdy straight man. He's not a nerd at all, he's a stud, but he plays such a nerdy straight man, and that was sort of the one thing that was really lacking. That addition to the cast, I think, is what made the show start firing on all cylinders.

Buzz: Like it did in "The Flu Season" episode?
CP: That's maybe my favorite episode. That's a really great episode. The flu storyline was my favorite, because I got to work so closely with Nick Offerman, who is truly my hero. It was a chance for us to just spend time together, and they manifested this B storyline of Ron and Andy hanging out. The episode is really, really funny. It was the perfect amount of story for a half hour. It was really a great example of what makes our show really good.

Buzz: Is Nick like Ron Swanson in real life at all?
CP: I think in many ways he's like Ron Swanson, but in more ways he's different than Ron Swanson, which is a testament to his ability to create a living, breathing character. [Offerman] is not like that; he's not a Libertarian, he doesn't only eat meat. He's a really hard worker, he doesn't pass the buck like Ron Swanson. But Nick is very manly. The wood shop he worked in for one of the episodes in the second season is his real wood shop in real life. All the manliness, all the straight-up man-sauce comes right from who Nick is as a man. He's an extraordinary man.

Keep reading to find out what Pratt thinks he brings to his character and why he thinks Andy and April work so well together.

Mistakes Made in the Bedroom: Why You Wake Up Exhausted

Ugh, is it 6:30 a.m. already? If you constantly wake up in the morning exhausted and in a fog, here are eight reasons why.

Your room is like a cave. I love sleeping in utter darkness, but if blackout shades prevent daylight from streaming in and slowing waking you up, your internal clock won't know day from night. Exposure to sunshine in the morning will signal your brain that it's time for your body to waken. And when you do, it'll be gradual, so you'll wake up feeling rested.

You skipped yesterday's workout and actually can't remember the last time you sweat it out. Exercise burns calories, but it also burns up energy. If you have too much, you'll be too restless to settle. Stick to a regular exercise routine, working out at least three or four times a week in order to reap the benefits in the bedroom.

You stayed up late tweeting and looking at friends' Facebook photos. I know it's difficult to disconnect from the world, but when you check your email "real quick" it's easy to get sucked in and before you know it, an hour has gone by. Besides keeping you up late, the lights from your phone, computer, and TV stimulate you brain, so when you finally shut off the lights, it takes your mind a while to calm down enough to drift off to sleep. Make a promise to shut off all technology at least an hour before bedtime and read a book, take a bath, or do some stretches before bed instead.

Continue reading to find out other reasons why you're not waking up rested.

OnSugar Review: Why the William & Kate Movie Was So Bad It Was Great

OK. Seriously, my DVR was all lined up, Blackberry put aside for me to curl up on my leather couch with a bowl of popcorn to watch Lifetime's William & Kate movie premiere. Ten minutes into the movie, I realized that the tissues I thought I'd need were going to be tears of laughter than of romance.

The actors in the movie were pretty similar in appearances to the real-life people they were portraying, though Prince Harry came across as angry, evil and just plain weird. We got to see the famous sheer-dress, though the movie's version was boring compared to the original, and Kate's wardrobe was the result of a bad wardrobe budget. Never attempt to re-create couture and real labels on a budget. Some of the movie was so cheesy and so unrealistic. I sincerely doubt that Prince William would ever sing to Kate to woo her, and I highly doubt that the conversation between William and his father, Prince Charles, was accurate. Their conversation of how Princess Diana chose the public life seemed a little sad, and I highly doubt there is any concrete evidence of dialogue that the writers chose to use.

The entire movie was was so slow and dragged out that by the time that the finale/engagement was shown, I was more dumbfounded by the bad computer-imaging of a safari background than by William proposing to Kate. Did anybody else laugh at how bad the acting was between Kate and her mother? Or that the "St. Andrews" college looked more community than Ivy League (folding chairs and tables? Paper decorations?). This movie was cast, directed, and launched way too fast. I'd rather see this in two years to see a wedding scene. Ugh. I was so angry that I wasted my time watching such a horrible movie, but at the same time, I was fascinated and easily amused at how bad it was. The only upside of the entire two hours was the actor playing William, Nico Evers-Swindell. He was nice to watch, and seriously much better looking than the real Prince of Wales.

We open this week's episode with Crosby rehashing his dalliance in an empty house to an unidentified woman. He seems to be making new plans in the wake of Jasmine's decision last week. Crosby isn't the only one making possibly questionable plans. It's prom and Adam is worried that Haddie's after-prom plans may include sex. Sarah is working hard to become a playwright and is forced to make a choice when it comes to her work. Amber makes some choices about college and her future. While everyone else is making life-changing decisions, Julia is left to deal with one that was dealt to her.

All Crosby wants is to get his family back. His indiscretion is still haunting him with Jasmine gone and troubles with Adam. Looking for someone to talk to and trying to find a way to get Jasmine back, Crosby recounts the story to a real estate agent. After seeing the house, Crosby goes to Adam with his new plan. However, Adam is still pissed and kicks him out. Adam needs to let it go. He and Kristina can be so self-righteous. It's really annoying. Clearly, Crosby knows that what he did was wrong and takes full responsibility for it. He didn't mean for it to happen. I also hate how they blame it all on Crosby and act like Gabby was the victim. That is not the case, but that's a post for another day. At the end of the day, they are family and Adam just needs to forgive him. In an attempt to be diplomatic, Sarah argues this point to Adam and urges him to be there for Crosby and look at the house because he's in pain. As the rest of the Braverman siblings take a look at the house, Crosby admits that he hastily and stupidly bought the house (not the pretty cottage-style house, but the shanty across the street) as a grand gesture. He can't back out now because he sold the house boat to do it. I'm going to miss that little boat. In the end, Adam shows up telling him that it was a grown up thing to do and agrees to help him fix up the house.

To get the rest of the entry, just keep reading

Glee-Ful Highlights and Video From Episode "Comeback"

Sam's new coif isn't the only focus though; Mr. Schuester spends his time trying to get Sue out of a deep depression, Lauren finds her voice (sort of), and Santana strikes again.
The Holiday: Frothy and Fun As a Cup of Cocoa

Holiday romantic comedies are bound to be a bit cheesy. When the movie is actually called The Holiday, cheesiness is almost guaranteed. But this latest romp from director Nancy Meyers, which hits theaters tomorrow, rises to the top of its frothy, feel-good genre. The self-aware storyline centers on two women-movie-trailer producer Amanda (Cameron Diaz) and British weddings columnist Iris (Kate Winslet)-who swap houses for the holidays to get away from their less-than-satisfactory love lives. Amanda, who sleeps with her Blackberry and has just ruined another relationship with her workaholism, goes to live in Iris's quaint Surrey cottage, while Iris takes up residence at Amanda's palatial LA haunt to forget her three-year unrequited love.

In the beginning, that scenario lends itself to too many scenes of lonely women talking to themselves; the ones featuring Diaz's high-strung Amanda are nearly intolerable. But when a trio of men enter the picture-including Iris's sexy, suntanned brother Graham (Jude Law)-things get a lot more interesting, so

Shortly after arriving in LA, Iris meets two very different men: a witty film-score composer named Miles (played with rare and refreshing subtlety by Jack Black) and Arthur (Eli Wallach), her octogenarian neighbor who also happens to be a legendary screenwriter. Back in England, Amanda makes the acquaintance of the hunky Graham when he shows up drunk at his sister's cottage, not knowing that she's gone on holiday.

To add drama to many of Amanda's scenes, the director employs a clever device: voice-over narration by that ubiquitous movie-trailer guy. Iris and Arthur, meanwhile, spend lots of time discussing the common conventions of script writing. That film-centric subplot on both continents gives the movie a sort of cheeky self-awareness about its own filmic-ness. That way, when the inevitable romantic-comedy cliches and convenient plot twists sneak in, it's more amusing than annoying.

I don't know what's gotten into me: maybe it's the holiday spirit or that my viewing of "The Holiday" comes on the heels of watching one of the worst romantic comedies I've even seen, Trust the Man, on a recent plane ride. (It wasn't even mentioned in the in-flight magazine, which makes me suspect that we were being subjected to a bizarre social experiment.) But implausibly neat and tidy plot aside, the way the characters interact in this movie rings very true to life. Particularly in the Iris/Los Angeles subplot, The Holiday addresses some very universal relationship truths in a clever way. I can't really say the same for the somewhat silly Amanda/Graham romance back in England, but at least there I had the Jude Law eye candy to keep me interested.
