With only eight days to go until New Year's Eve, I thought it fitting to pay homage to the quintessential party girl and ladylike legend, Holly Golightly. The iconic image of Miss G enjoying coffee and a croissant while gazing into Tiffany's is permanently ingrained in my head. Holly was the ultimate glamorous girl-about-town, and she always dressed the part. Get her glam look with a long black sheath dress ($80), shiny kitten heels, and elbow-length gloves. Make the look modern with a crystal headband and sequin clutch - and don't forget the pearls.

Before Sex and the City, we had Holly Golightly, the fabulous single lady portrayed by Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's. In the upcoming book Fifth Avenue 5 A.M.: Audrey Hepburn, Breakfast at Tiffany's, and the Dawn of the Modern Woman, author Sam Wasson argues that Hepburn's portrayal was one of the first to glamorize the single, city-dwelling woman.

In the 1958 book on which the movie was based, Truman Capote made Golightly a racy call girl, a far more controversial character who was tamed for the big screen. In the latest issue of New York magazine, Wasson says the casting of Audrey Hepburn made Golightly a more aspirational figure:

"Before Hepburn, there was the prude and the slut, and the reality of in-between had no cinematic correlation. If Monroe had played her, she would have just been a hooker. That was when I got the power of the movie, and the genius of casting Audrey Hepburn."

In a much-discussed season two episode of Mad Men, the creative types at Sterling Cooper argue that all women fall into two camps: the Jackie or the Marilyn, the Madonna and the whore. But being a "Jackie" also means being a mom, so for single women, perhaps the Marilyn vs. Audrey dichotomy is more accurate. What do you think?

Could Anne Hathaway Play Holly Golightly?

Relax: This is just a tiny little rumor and nobody is remaking Breakfast at Tiffany's (yet). But apparently the idea of a remake has been bandied about for a long time now, with the major issue being, of course, who would take on the iconic Audrey Hepburn role, Holly Golightly?

In Variety, Liz Smith claims that "if anybody could be Holly Golightly in the 21st century, it's Anne" Hathaway who, Smith says, "has an unusually alert, charming way about her - elfin, sexy, princessy, without being prissy."

Do you agree with this assessment of Hathaway? She's certainly been getting a lot of attention lately - do you think she could pull off this role?

What's Buzzworthy: Movies With Great Costumes

In the spirit of the upcoming Halloween holiday and costuming and masquerade, I made this week's Buzzworthy challenge all about movies with great costumes, and the results were dazzling! I feel the need to check out each of these movies all over again just to get some inspiration for my own Halloween costume this year. Marie Antoinette This title was bookmarked by Kerry G who has quite the eye for fashion. There is actually not very much dialogue in this film, which is just fine by me because I'd be distracted by the outrageously beautiful and candy-colored costumes. I'm glad this film won the Oscar for Best Costumes this year.

Get the Look: An Audrey-Inspired Studio

Audrey Hepburn's glamorous look in Breakfast at Tiffany's was influential, to say the least. But back when I lived in a studio apartment, I found her home style - and her ability to throw a cocktail party in a one-room apartment - more inspiring. So for today's Get the Look, I decided to design a studio apartment influenced by those Breakfast at Tiffany's digs.

I've always coveted Holly Golightly's bathtub couch, so I flipped out when I found this wonderful replica yesterday on Notcot. With the couch as the centerpiece, I pulled together bedroom furniture, kitchen goodies, and other accents that are inspired by the movie set or by Hepburn herself. For everything you need to get the look,

read more The Palette: I simply couldn't pass up the opportunity to use some Tiffany-esque blue, and this Valspar Ultra Premium Paint in Rapids (at left) is pretty darn close. Why not cover the walls with it, then use black and white for the rest of the room?
The Furniture: Obviously, you'll need a couch made out of a bathtub, and I also threw in some other items evocative of Golightly's pad, including a retro fridge and an elegant wrought-iron bed. For chairs and other furniture, go with ornate, old-school wooden styles. The Accents: When in doubt, go glam, with glitzy lamps, and chandeliers dripping with costume jewels.
