The Results Are In: Recast Boy Meets World

Every other Wednesday on BuzzSugar, I post a Recast challenge, where I ask you to choose new actors for a classic TV show or movie. The reader who submits the best cast wins a BuzzSugar t-shirt!

Thanks for tossing in your new cast ideas for that beloved '90s sitcom, Boy Meets World last week. It was a very informative trip down young Hollywood lane for me and I had several moments that went something like, "Oh so that's who that kid is" as I matched your suggestions to faces. I totally hear you cordata: Thinking of actors under 18 is challenging!

A few of you, including ShePirate2008 and lellybear, thought Shia Labeouf would make a great Cory and I agree that once upon a time he was an excellent awkward teen. But alas, he's a bit older now and probably "too cool" for the role. I also thought savilerow085's suggestion that Alexandar Gould from Weeds is a great idea for Cory.

I got a kick out of all the Topangas including leeluvfashion's idea for Willa Holland (remember her from The O.C.?) and chasingjamie's suggestion for Miriam McDonald (even though she changed her mind to Brittany Snow later).

In the end, it was a great young cast and a truly spot-on Mr. Feeny that won this week's challenge: congrats to kea718!

To see who she chose, along with a new cast photo,

.

kea718's cast list:
Cory Matthews - Devon Werkheiser
Eric Matthews - Drake Bell
Shawn Hunter -Matthew Underwood
Topanga Lawrence - Emma Roberts
George Feeny - Ken Jenkins
Alan Matthews - Bill Paxton
Amy Matthews - Molly Ringwald

Recast Boy Meets World and Win a Prize!

Every other Wednesday on BuzzSugar, I post a Recast challenge, where I ask you to choose new actors for a classic TV show or movie. The reader who submits the best cast wins a BuzzSugar t-shirt!

This week we travel back to one of the sitcoms that is just so '90s: Boy Meets World! When this was on the air, I may have been a little too cool for school to admit that it was a guilty pleasure of mine. But it was just so hard to resist another Savage boy!

If you could cast the show today, who would you pick to play Cory Matthews (Ben Savage), the funny and neurotic teenager with a dry sense of humor?

Who could play the vaguely rebellious Shawn (Rider Strong), Cory's best friend, despite the fact that they are opposites in many ways? What about Cory's charming older brother Eric (Will Friedle) who had a way with the ladies? And don't forget the love of Cory's life, Topanga (best TV name ever), originally played by Danielle Fishel.

We should also recast Mr. Feeny (William Daniels) the boys' neighbor, teacher, principal (and later college professor - ha!) while we're at it, and Cory's parents as well, Alan and Amy Matthews.

Leave your entry in the comment section below, and I'll pick one winner to feature Tuesday, July 8, complete with a "new" cast photo.

To see a list of characters to recast and a photo of the BuzzSugar t-shirt,

An Everyday Athlete Is Still an Athlete

We are pumped to share one of our fave stories from espnW here on FitSugar!

By Risa Isard

On June 23, 1972, Title IX was signed into law, leveling the playing field for female athletes. To mark the 40th anniversary, espnW explore the impact of this landmark legislation.

You might not know me, but chances are you know someone like me. I'm that girl who grew up playing hoops in the driveway with my dad and brother every night after dinner. The one who played rec soccer for 10 years, starting out on a boys team. The one who persuaded her middle-school gym teacher to let her run the monthly timed mile against boys, then wrote her target time on her arm - in permanent marker. The one who took field day just a little too seriously.

The one who is thankful every day for Title IX.

Counting down the best of the past 40 years

Growing up, I wasn't an elite athlete, but I had passion to spare. I ran, jumped, threw, and kicked on a daily basis and eventually I found my calling in high school track and cross country. I was good (I earned seven varsity letters), but not good enough for the next level.

So when I arrived at Duke nearly four years ago, I found myself wondering something that had never crossed my mind before: was I still an athlete?

Answering that question was no easy task. As I read about various elite athletes, I recognized our shared pasts. Like gymnast Jordyn Wieber, I used to pull old cushions into the middle of the family room and do cartwheels, somersaults, and front handsprings. Like many WNBA stars, I was the only girl in neighborhood basketball games. I lacked their natural ability, but I came to realize that we are connected through dreams and experiences. We all began by thinking of ourselves as athletes and scheduling our lives around sports at a young age. That doesn't just go away.

Read on for more.

First Look! Zara Masters the Art of Boy-Meets-Girl Dressing For May

With both cool-girl appeal and the prettiest white lace and crochet, Zara's May collection might best be characterized as an exercise in perfect boy-meets-girl dressing. The retailer artfully delivers the best of both worlds: the most feminine and sophisticated kind of separates, like a little lace waistcoat or a ladies-who-lunch tweed jacket, then a slouchy pair of tomboy-fit studded jeans and a menswear-style striped button-down. Zara's Woman collection offers up polished floral prints and silky tropical button-downs, while the TRF line veers into more casual territory with open-weave knits, distressed boyfriend jeans, and tribal-embellished tanks and t-shirts. Read on for our favorite pieces and styling tips, then click through to get a glimpse of every look.

If you're looking to get in on the jumpsuit trend, we love the effortless vibe of this version - perfect for dressing up and down all Summer.

This open-weave knit would be an ideal piece to layer up on a beachy vacation or throw on with your favorite Summer cutoffs.

Try out a statement skirt like this one and balance out the high-impact details with a menswear-inspired button-up.

Meeting My Sperm Donor

We're happy to present this story from one of our favorite sites, The Good Men Project. Ben Sommer, conceived through alternative insemination, is a young man now and tells the story of deciding to meet his donor.

I grew up in a middle-class home in Cambridge, Massachusetts, with two loving parents, both of whom are women. My conception was perhaps the most organized and scientific miracle of the modern American family - my architecture, the dream of dozens of individuals conducting their work across thousands of miles.

Objectifying Ryan Gosling

I was conceived through alternative insemination. A donor submitted his sperm to the Sperm Bank of California in Oakland (TSBC). Later, it was sent to the Fenway Community Health Center in Boston. Since opening its doors in 1982, TSBC has helped families without the ability to conceive on their own to birth over 2,000 children. Two thirds of those have ended up, like me, being raised in a lesbian household. TSBC is also the first sperm bank to offer a donor-identity-release program, which allows children of alternative insemination access to their donors' information when they turn 18.

I am not as much an oddity as you might think. As of 2005, some 270,000 children in the United States had same sex-parents. We are a generation that is just now beginning to come of age and able to share our stories. This is mine.

Growing up in a lesbian household was much like growing up in any other family unit, I imagine: vacations to Cape Cod, parents working late and sometimes not, play dates with a diverse group of friends.

I never gave much thought to that mysterious figure across the country. I never questioned the fact that I didn't have a father. As far as I was concerned I didn't need one. Is having two moms really all that different than having a mom and a dad? Parents are parents, right? I didn't see a difference at the time. My parents didn't either - at least at first.

They decided to conceive through a donor, in part, to avoid the complications that a third parent would bring. Asking a close male friend to donate, like some couples have done, can create unforeseen consequences. In the past, there have been custody battles between the donor and the parents raising the child. This was the case with a friend of mine, whose parents arranged donation from a male family friend. With a semi-anonymous donor like the man my parents chose, it would be clear who my parents were. And it was.

That's not to say that it was smooth sailing. "When we first learned you were going to be a boy, we really panicked," my mother told me recently. "Who's going to teach him to throw a ball? We didn't have many male friends. There was even basic stuff, like who's going to teach him to pee standing up. That doesn't come naturally."

Read the rest of the story below.

Where Are All The Sensitive Men Hiding? These 10 Cities!

We're happy to present this excerpt from one of our favorite sites, YourTango.

Do you keep meeting disappointing men? The ones who seem so promising at first, but then end up never calling you, or worse - promising you the world and then breaking your heart? Perhaps you're attracting the wrong guys because you're not asking for what you want. Or maybe you have a thing for "bad boys" - you think you can tame 'em (hint: This almost never works). Could it be a stroke of bad luck? Well, a recent Chemistry.com poll says you may just be living in the wrong city.

Just in time for today's launch of their new blog - which will feature monthly posts from YourTango - Chemistry.com reveals the nation's Top Ten Cities to Find a Sensitive Man. Using their data based on the personality types of American singles, they pinpointed the cities with the highest concentrations of softies - uh, we mean, gallant gentlemen. We weren't sure what to do with these findings, as they seemed a bit random. Staten Island? Living in New York, we beg to differ on this one (sorry, Situation). Here's what Chemistry.com's chief scientific advisor, Dr. Helen Fisher had to say about these findings:

"Men do have a sensitive side. They want to please. But different men do it differently; and these 10 cities are packed with a certain kind of man, what I call BUILDERS - men who express a constellation of personality traits linked with the serotonin system in the brain. Sensitive men, known as builders, are traditional. They deeply value loyalty, duty, respectability and proper moral conduct. They want to do the 'right' thing. So builders go way out of their way to keep their social relationships running smoothly. So they watch, listen, and gauge what they need to do to help others and they do it naturally. It's these chivalrous qualities that make a sensitive man."

Here is the list of Top 10 Cities to Find a Sensitive Man:

Roanoke, Virginia
West Hollywood, California
Sarasota, Florida
Greenville, South Carolina
10 TV Shows That Explore Alternative Lifestyles

These are not your typical all-American "boy meets girl" stories, with the colonial, the Collie, and the 2.5 children. Alternative lifestyles absolutely fascinate Americans, so it should come as no surprise that each of these shows is, was, or has been a sensation in its own right. Whether it's polygamy, fetishes, or LGBT relationships, the more glimpses mainstream American society gets into these different worlds, the less taboo they become. And we're all for knocking down preconceived notions and stereotypes. Here are 10 TV series that are shedding some light on alternative lifestyles in the US.
