Drew Carey, Come On Down!

Well folks, it's official: Drew Carey is the new Bob Barker. I truly had no idea he would actually be made host of "The Price Is Right" when I posted the poll this morning, but what timing! The majority of you who voted thought Carey could pull off this gig, so here's hoping you're right about that. He certainly has a goofy appeal, so I think he'll do just fine - though of course, nobody can ever replace old Bob.

Now I'm wondering if Carey will be able to sufficiently crow Barker's signature line "Come on down!" Or perhaps Carey will usher in a new "Price Is Right" tag line?

Could Rosie Replace Bob on "The Price is Right"?

Fresh from his final spin of the big wheel and his 19th Daytime Emmy Award win, Bob Barker kept making headlines over the weekend by saying Rosie O'Donnell could follow him as host of "The Price is Right."

In the press room after the Daytime Emmy Awards ceremony, Barker said of O'Donnell (who, by the way, actually took out a full-page ad in Variety to express interest in the job):

"She knows the show. There's no doubt in my mind she could do the show. Now, whether they want a lady host, I don't know. I've never heard that discussed. As far as I know, they've only auditioned men."

I'm not quite sure how I feel about Rosie hosting "Price" (on the one hand, she has the energy for it; on the other hand, she's pretty polarizing), but I just have to mention Barker using the words "lady host." In anyone else's mouth, that would sound a little sexist, but coming from him, it's oddly quaint and endearing. Oh, Bob. I'll miss you.

By the way, other people mentioned as possible replacement hosts have been Todd Newton of E!, Mark Steines of "Entertainment Tonight," George Hamilton, John O'Hurley, and Mario Lopez, though that last one was apparently just a rumor. So, do you think Rosie could do it?

The 2007 Daytime Emmy Award Winners

Everyone will miss dear old Bob Barker now that he's officially done hosting "The Price Is Right," but perhaps the pathway is cleared for someone else to win the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Game Show Host, since Barker just took home his 19th award. Another popular winner at the 34th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards this year was "Sesame Street," which won Outstanding Pre-School Children's Series along with two awards for Outstanding Performer in a Children's Series (Elmo and Oscar the Grouch). Hey, it's not your favorite kids' educational program for nothing.

Happily, "The Ellen Degeneres Show" won not once, but twice - taking home awards for Outstanding Talk Show Host as well as for Outstanding Talk Show. Paula Deen also took home two awards, for both Outstanding Lifestyle Program ("Paula's Home Cooking") and Oustanding Lifestyle Host. I like Paula well enough, but I think I'm more of a Giada De Laurentiis ("Everyday Italian") kind of gal.

TV Today: Bob Barker's Last Spin on "The Price is Right"

After 35 years of Showcase Showdowns, spinning the Big Wheel and playing Plinko, Bob Barker has officially stepped down as the host of "The Price is Right." The white-haired stud's final episode at the helm of Contestants' Row airs today, but if you'll be unavailable to see it during the day, don't worry - CBS will replay the episode at 8 p.m., right before the network's coverage of the Daytime Emmy Awards.

Some fans camped out for days to get their chance at tickets for the final show, which taped June 7. Today, maybe we'll get to see one of them go home with a new dinette set or (dramatic pause) a new car! To watch a clip of Barker greeting one of those die-hard fans, read more

Die-hard "The Price Is Right" fans camped out last night to be able to attend Bob Barker's last taping of the show before he starts his retirement tomorrow, the AP states.
The creator of the fast food documentary Super Size Me, Morgan Spurlock is making another documentary, this time about the hunt for Osama Bin Laden, Variety reports.
R. Kelly defies controversy to score his sixth No. 1 album, reports MTV News.
Chris Rock and Jerry Seinfeld will headline HBO and AEG Live's the Comedy Festival in Las Vegas come November, says Reuters.
Variety has details on New Line's recently bought documentary King of Kong, all about fierce Donkey Kong competitions.
Taking a break from film, Mandy Moore tells Billboard she hopes to tour this Fall.
Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson will team up to star in romantic drama Last Chance Harvey, Reuters reports.
Reuters has news about a Canadian journalist who is suing Judd Apatow for allegedly stealing her story and using it for Knocked Up.
Meanwhile, Variety reports that Seth Rogen's Apatow-produced comedy, Pineapple Express, will be released next August.

CBS Will Send Bob Barker Out in Style

Some of my earliest memories involve watching Bob Barker on "The Price is Right" in my grandma's living room, so I'm glad to see that CBS is sending the 83-year-old host off in style before his retirement this year. First, he'll be hosting a special primetime episode of the show, "The Price is Right Million Dollar Spectacular," on May 16. Then, the next night, the network will air a special tribute to Barker's 50 years in show business, including Barker's reminiscences and clips from classic "The Price is Right" games. I'm hoping for lots of Plinko.

CBS is also starting up a new edition of its "15 Seconds" YouTube video series all about Barker. They're hoping to collect a batch of 15-second tributes to Barker, some of which will be broadcast during the primetime specials or during a daytime episode of "The Price is Right." I can't wait to see what people come up with - and besides, isn't it time you taught your grandma how to make a YouTube video anyway?

CBS still hasn't named a replacement host, though George Hamilton is the latest name floating around. The network also hasn't said when Barker will tape his last show, so there's still time to get to LA and have Bob tell you to spay and neuter your pets in person.

Steve Carell Teeing Up For the Missing Links

So I may not play golf, but that doesn't mean I can't appreciate a good comedy based on the game. (Remember that scene in Happy Gilmore when Adam Sandler squares off with Bob Barker? Classic.) Now Steve Carell may be joining the ranks of Sandler and Chevy Chase (Caddyshack!) with a golf movie of his very own.

The Office star is reportedly in talks for Missing Links, based on a novel from ESPN sportswriter Rick Reilly. The film follows a golf enthusiast and his buddies as they hatch various elaborate strategies to get onto an exclusive course. Costars haven't been announced yet, but I'd love to see Paul Rudd or maybe Thomas Lennon as other members of Carell's foursome - just picture those guys donning goofy checked caps and argyle socks!

Carell is always reliable for a few laughs, so I have high hopes for this one - what about you? Who would you cast as his golfer friends?
